The drive shafts are actually nickel plated meaning they will not rust (very easily). After each run, you could always just spray on some WD-40 to the CV shafts if you're paranoid.
Excellent stuff dude, as always, great video. I have a suggestion for you. You mention at the end (rightfully) the the shafts not being stainless steal renders the Mini E-Revo NOT WATERPROOF anymore because the drive shafts will rust unless emmediate cleaning and maintenance after use. Well I have come accross a really absolutely wicked product here that might actually solve that problem or at least reduce the factor by 99%. The trick is to get a hold of (if you have the opportunity to do so, by all means, get it) some Nano-Protective Coating spray. All you have to do is to spray the coating onto the driveshafts prior to mounting them. That will have for effect to render the steel 100% waterproof (150% even as it actually repels water) using Ross Nanotechnology's NeverWet superhydrophobic spray-on coating. You can see a demonstration video here : th-cam.com/video/7is6r6zXFDc/w-d-xo.html . You can also get more info on the technology of this product right here (Amazing stuff) : lancasteronline.com/business/magical-neverwet-arrives-in-stores/article_79ba958a-2ce4-5ddd-b162-b67d51319356.html The product Manufacturer's website url : www.neverwet.com/ In theory, you could actually take appart anything and spraycoat it like RC parts and whatnot, and you'll end up with an absolutely FLAWLESS super auto-cleaning RC race car. Forget the hastles of time-consumming cleaning maintenance after using your favorite RC Basher, eventually just dip in water 5 seconds and voilà!! Great trick, this is the next revolutionnary step in RC maintenance, trust me !! ;) I've ordered a couple of cans, and will soon proceed to doing exactly what I just said above on my Mini E-Revo VXL, and (as I'm not a great video pro), I'll try go get around to posting a little tutorial on the initial maintenance and coating process and try to do a follow-up video on this idea. (Unless you get around to doing so yourself and making a new part.xx Upgrade video, which would be kool ;) - Nevertheless, this is the future of RC racing/maintenance. NO MORE RUST , DIRT or any of that crap on our loved machines !! :)
I actually pushed a lot of power through mine and the stock axles keep blowing I knew you had to take apart the diff. I just didn’t believe it but now I believe it get the blue hot racing ones instead.
Hey I just put these on my traxxas summit 1/16 i heard I was able to put them on but now the rear one pops out of the hole what could I do to keep them from popping out
lol Awesome to hear. I never knew how a E-Revo was put together before the vids I made. Everyone else who posted vids on the merv where not as descriptive or didn't show how to install the upgrades they had for it. Nice to see what goes where.
Its takes a little longer to do with the TBone chassis. Aligning the TBone chassis screws on top of the spacers is frustrating,..,but this is something i gotta do with my Mamba 5700kv motor. Im surprised you didnt put in a steel center drive shaft...
hi Jester thanks for the tutorial. i just ordered also the steel CVD's. This morning i was trying to get off the backwings... it pretty stuck on the back. i removed already 3 screws on top and many other ones. if i try to play it off it looks like somewhere in the middle of it (when u look at it from the back) its stuck..... maybe just jank it out of use a knive and slice slowly from the point it stuck. what do you think? i did not see u remove it in your video, i mean the steps...
I desperately need someone's help, I recently bought a set of hot racing axles and the process is basically the same as yours......except my cups don't fit through the bearing like you did, and if I keep the bearing on then I won't be able to screw the 3 main screws back in because the bearing is blocking them?
All I have ever had to do is spray them down with WD-40 before and after use. They are not like SS bearings. You do have to grease the ends once in a while. I like to use marine grease it weathers better than most.
Hi Jester....recently I upgraded my merv with stell cvd s and center drive line based on your video..thanks..But I messed up somthig...when my rear tires are moving forward ..my front tears are moving back wards..vice versa..i know i did a mistale..can you point out me...something on differ ? ..am eager to run my merv with awesome upgrades
Hey I watch all your video ..all I have is traxxas but one losi 8ight 3.0 ...my question is ..can u take 1/16 rally or e revo front diff make it oneway..next traxxas center diff can u turn it to oneway
I just want installed upgraded steel cvd for my Mini erevo. The first run one of my driveshaft pins has shifted and is almost out. Are the pins supposed to move or are the fixed? Do I need to call Traxxas to be replaced?
i will upgrade when i break the stock ones. im going on a year now and have never had any problems on 2s and the occasional 3s. then again i dont like to destroy my cars by slamming the throttle every five seconds from a stand still and i keep my slipper clutch loose
Is the diff fluid inside the actual diff the same as the sylicone diff oil on the outside gear. Please reply because I don't know if I need to order something again.
darkeclipticheart I put the CVDs on my Summit and they work great. I read that because of the suspension angle you have to replace the suspension rockers with the E-Revo rockers. I did that before installing these but I'm not sure if it is completely necessary. You will lose a very small amount of ground clearance with the Revo rockers but I think it's an improvement as the truck doesn't roll over quite as easily.
WOW that looks fiddly need a lot of patience and a steady hand for that upgrade. Traxxas should do an ultimate MERV with the ally and CVD ugrades for sure. And damn the little guy is just full of dog hairs, must do your nut in buddy?
How durable are these? Does anyone know the absolute most durable option for these drive shafts? I know there are a couple of other brands making different style steel shafts.
The o-rings that hold in the pins dry out and fall off within months leading to the driveshaft falling off in the yard. I'm going back to the plastic ones.
Great video! I'm thinking of installing these metal parts on mine because the original plastic shafts keep coming loose ... With use, is this upgrade holding up well? Do you think for bashing, are better pieces than the original plastic?
I bought the first gen and never broke a axle. Bought one recently thinking it was a tank like my old one. Snapped axle under a minute. Very disappointed. Interesting Traxxas offers metal ones now. Hmmmm

Awesome details, this video even helped me replace my broken front A-arms👍🏻
Nice job on the vid. I'm going to put these on next time I tear my diffs apart to re-oil them.

This is one of the best RC Upgrade video I ever saw. Keep up the good work.
I actually pushed a lot of power through mine and the stock axles keep blowing I knew you had to take apart the diff. I just didn’t believe it but now I believe it get the blue hot

Hey I just put these on my traxxas summit 1/16 i heard I was able to put them on but now the rear one pops out of the hole what could I do to keep them from popping out
im about to undertake this project as well as changing the center drive shaft... wish me luck! and thanks for the video..
Slide a piece of heat shrink on the steel shafts to stop rusting
lol Awesome to hear. I never knew how a E-Revo was put together before the vids I made. Everyone else who posted vids on the merv where not as descriptive or didn't show how to install the upgrades they had for it. Nice to see what goes where.
The platting keeps the rust away but since Jester is White and black why not prime and paint them?
I hope this is still exactly the same because I just bought a Revo / Merv and one day I might need this video again for a fresh up.

What a pain. Great description ! Nice job Jason !
I've considered it but wouldn't it be better just to build one?
Great Video
I'm seeing more cat hair on Jester than on any of your other R/C's

I literally know how to take apart and build a mini Erevo from watching all your videos now lol
I desperately need someone's help, I recently bought a set of hot racing axles and the process is basically the same as yours......except my cups don't fit through the bearing like you did, and if I keep the bearing on then I won't be able to screw the 3 main screws back in because the bearing is blocking them?
I tend to be rather "gentle" with my RCs too. But at least I never have to worry about them breaking now lol.
So i purchased the Hot Racing version and the cuffs are wider and dont fit the bearings in the bulkhead. What am i doing wrong lol?
The oil in the diff gear is different. It's called Diff Lube. REALLY sticky stuff.
What Weight?
All I have ever had to do is spray them down with WD-40 before and after use. They are not like SS bearings. You do have to grease the ends once in a while. I like to use marine grease it weathers better than most.

These videos are awesome, thank you!
Jester is a spoiled child. Awesome upgrade.
One question, why didn't you put lube the diffs.
Can you get metal "shock towers" or. What would be then? I kinda have my esc mounted to mind and the stock plastic one wiggles a bit
I'm find a lot of value in your videos ..... thank you
Are the center drive lines also available in metal?
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!
I just want installed upgraded steel cvd for my Mini erevo. The first run one of my driveshaft pins has shifted and is almost out. Are the pins supposed to move or are the fixed? Do I need to call Traxxas to be replaced?
Are those stock a arms. I got rpm ones all around and the upgraded drive shafts are short. What to do?
Hey! man, how do you handle the oring issue? Keeps braking....
i will upgrade when i break the stock ones. im going on a year now and have never had any problems on 2s and the occasional 3s. then again i dont like to destroy my cars by slamming the throttle every five seconds from a stand still and i keep my slipper clutch loose
Dude thanks again! Looks great. I can't wait to try them out.
Is the diff fluid inside the actual diff the same as the sylicone diff oil on the outside gear. Please reply because I don't know if I need to order something again.
Check out the upgrade right before this. Level 7 Upgrade. It has all the info on the shims I used.
great video, very helpful, thankyou I have 1/16 traxxas summit, hey one thing can you tell if these cvds work for the summit too
Sorry but I don't know

Jim Dandy yes the summmit is the e revo with different body and ires
@karthik.tcs care your front diff is backwards. I had the same problem except my rear diff was backwards the wheels turned opposit of each other
why is there hair all over your shocks?
have you thought about converting jester into a mini summit???
Great vid , what grease brand do you use ??
What kind of grease did u put on the diffs
Man after the first few low jumps, front right bent on me, very upset, what other brand do you suggest
bit of a a job but worth doing iam sure , would like to put a set of those in my summit vxl
I have a slash 4x4 1/16 and the chassis is gray but this looks so dark because it is black. Sorry for my bad english i am dutch.
RC guys 100 you fucking rule!
Can you do a video on what tools you ues
What weight silicone oil did you use
Great vid man, Thanks alot:) how much is the uprade? can u buy the mini e-revo fully upgraded? £$?
WOW that looks fiddly need a lot of patience and a steady hand for that upgrade. Traxxas should do an ultimate MERV with the ally and CVD ugrades for sure. And damn the little guy is just full of dog hairs, must do your nut in buddy?

Nice how to video!. Got pets? few hairs stuck in the springs ;)
Keep them coming Jason :)
I found it somewhere but I don't remember where. Sorry but I can't tell you more then that.
Any way I can get those old driveshafts from you?
Great video! I'm thinking of installing these metal parts on mine because the original plastic shafts keep coming loose ...
With use, is this upgrade holding up well?
Do you think for bashing, are better pieces than the original plastic?
Thanks. I will!
What shim did u use what's the brand and part #
I bought the first gen and never broke a axle. Bought one recently thinking it was a tank like my old one. Snapped axle under a minute. Very disappointed. Interesting Traxxas offers metal ones now. Hmmmm
good times with that high quality foam :D
how do you get a black chassis? did you spray paint it?
never mind i just watched the video on how to do it
There was enough lube in the diffs. I didn't need to add anymore.
Thank you very much man!!!
Yeah I'll give you another shout out.
I won't lie. Out of all the upgrades I've done. I hated doing this one lol
Ohhhh, Jester needs a grooming! xD
good video ! a lot of work but it's worth it ...Thanks!
I appreciate this.
This would have been a good time to put in the lockers
thank you
What servo are you using?
I was using an old Hi Tec, I believe. But I later changed it to a better Hi Tec 5085mg
For now I have 30 weight. But eventually I'll get higher weight.
The o-rings go bad and the pins fall out within months. I'm going back to the plastic ones.
know any one donateing full trucks
Not as hard as i thought.... until you get to the differential lol
Did you skin a cat lmao.... Great vid
its regular when driving a car in a carpet
I like repairing these things, but that is a lot to do, lol.
Not cheap. It cost $40-$60 depending where you buy it. And sadly no, you can't buy it fully upgraded.
Like them
You make it look easy -_-
Stickin to my 2WDs.....half the process..
Nightmare Motorsports R/C Cant go wrong with a slash 2wd!
cheap, durable and easy to fix if you do break something.
I really don’t feel like doing this 😂
That would be dog hairs lol
Just paint the dam shafts no problem
Sorry but I'm holding onto them.
lol I wish
Dude I love your videos but you should really get some compressed air and spray away all the animal hair. illy
lol I know what you mean.
Paint them white!!!
Lol slide it in for the first time :)
ahh. good r
You boss
All that hair is triggering my OCD
