I got a Lil tip for anyone. Place a small piece of electrical tape on the bottom of the two bulk head cases. there is usually a gap 11:04 Helps keep the grease inside and dirt out. I'd like to order the Integy metal bulkheads and see if there will still be a gap or not
Great video, nice close up camera work, detailed thorough instructions. I used this to shim the diffs on a 1/16 Grave Digger, almost identical process but with the detailed explanation of what each step is for, was easy to do. Thanks!
Man... you have some killer videos. I've learned a lot about the MERV and I thank you. That thing is so clean it makes me wonder if you have any fun with it, though... go get it dirty or scape it up a little... or something. Maybe I'm just jealous that it's so clean............ NAAAAH. Thanks, again!
Awesome job making this clear and informative. Helped me actually enjoy fixing my diff. Definitely fun a check out your other videos for other projects!! Thank you
If you want more white that you can see, RPM makes dyable arms for the MERV but they come completely white so that would be a cool look especially if you dyed like half of them black or something like that. Just my 2 cents
Hey brother I just wanted to thank you very much you've helped me out a lot with my mini E-Revo, but I done shimmed it up exactly how you done it even had to put two on both differentials but now it's sounding like it's coming from the front I do have the team associated shims and it still making that clicking clucking noise when I give it throttle I'm very aggravated, my question is what else could it be when I have brand new differentials in front and back
justin thymes eBay dude. Buy be careful I have been charged twice. Now 100 dollars spent and absolutely NO shims were delivered although apparently the shipment was sent but no shims. Came either time. I gotta say this ducking sucks all for 4 shims. Wtf delivery system is at fault. It does happen. Just wanted to tell you seems how you asked where to find them. ebay.ca eBay.com Either one bro. Keep on looking 👊 Hope your experience is better than mine. 👊😎
To get the front driveshaft back on, unbolt it from the transmission and reassemble with the driveshaft together. It is a lot easier to align the driveshaft to the transmission output than to align the shaft halves. You can access this from the top of the car. Just did it on my sons Summit when replacing the bulkhead.
Usually the only way to tell if you need to shim your gears is if your diff gears strip. Also, if you RC is over a year old and the diff housing is warping from wear and tear, that would be a good time to shim them.
I've surfed almost the entire web about shimming diffs, I know this is intended for the MERV but helps anyway. For what I know, the diff should not move from left to right into the diff housing (or bulkhead) but some people uses shims on both sides of the diffs because if you put all on the ring side it could be too tight and then removing one shim to achieve a better gear mesh you put some gap and making the left to right movement appears again.
Can you provide an amazon link? My country has some of the highest gasoline prices on the planet. Basically i'd be paying 50 bucks just to pick it up at the hobby shop.
If you want it to have front drive instead of rear, it's your call. The only benefit I'd see is no more wheelies. Which would be a good thing if you plan on giving it more power. Steel CVDs are a good upgrade if you plan on going lipo. Preferably keep your mah on your 1/16 around no more then 5000mah. 20c output is fine. You can go to 30c but be careful about torque. It could strip the center driveshaft and the driveshafts too. 7.4v is fine. But if you want insanity go with 3s.
Still cant find these shims, theyre out of stock everywhere and none on ebay.Does any other shims fit?I got my new gears but don't want to tear the truck apart if Im just going to strip them in a week.I'm disappointed in this truck.
Hey, Ok Couple of questions. I have a 1/16 Scale grave digger and i gotta look for the right shims but my truck is RWD and 2 wheel drive i wanna keep it that way but, Do you know if it would help To put my diffs in the front would that reduce it the problem and i know it will stop wheeling oh and by the way i am getting a big block 1410 mmp 3800kv. when i do that would i need Steel Cvds and would it be asking for alot of power or MAh or Discharge Rating or wat ever Ps Jester coming Along great
Or do you think a standard 380 velineon is enogh Cause i wanted to go big cause i wanna put it in both my rc and not buy two i will in the long run but right now i am hungry for power (NOM NOM NOM)
I recently replaced my front diff because I chipped a tooth on my old one.It is grinding on one section on the new diff but runs smooth on the other part. Will it just need to break in or is there a solution?
how do you know when its too tight are you saying when u cant turn wheel any more or what?? im rebuilding my third set of shims this time using all 4 please help??
I have a brand new merv should I shim the diffs right away? I have many hop up parts likecsteel cvds I'm installing wondering if I should shim while I'm in there its brandnew
Definitely put the shims in. I also have a new 1/16 revo and it took every bit of 3 runs with new 2s lipo's to make the rear diff start to slip and grind stopped car as soon as i heard the clicks and thanks to Darkeclipticheart's very imformative videos had the revo up and running without a tick from the diff the same day the shims arrived.
oh, okay... thanks for the helpful video :) Ive been looking around for spacers on youtube so I can get the correct size at my hobby store (Y) Ive already stripped like 4 diffs with just regular NiMh and 1 LiPo run O_O
thanks for your video, the only good one I could find. I replaced the long gear that joins the diff gear and put 3 shims on and adjusted the slipper and now it is going good. It was clacking pretty bad before but that was because I used the previous owners settings and the slipper was locked up and I was doing back flips. So do you think its possible to be able to do back flips and not wreck the gears? And what do you think the max number of shims would be? I was going to ditch the erevo but I still like the erevos, thanks again
Awesome vids fella, i have learnt shit loads from you especially from your nitro rustler series. If i can ask a question, is it possible to reverse the half shafts on the merv like on the rustler? the reason is the same, getting loads of crud and shite jammed in there have you tried it ? I'm waiting for some shims and I might as well do that mod while i've got it apart what do you think ?
holy crap putting these tiny screws back in is fucking annoying because they refuse to go back in all the way so you can't start screwing them back in, so pissed off right now
Nooo. My bulhead cracked again without me noticing it. Just where the bolt is. So the front diff is gone. All I did was hid the breaks too hard, and bye bye front diff... For me- no more. Bye bye Mini e-revo. I had enough of small size RCs.
I sold it really cheap, but i bought a new rc! Its is a 1/8 scale redcat, and it way more durable than most people think! Check my channel to see it. It was originally Nitro, but I converted it to electric, couse the engine was worn out. A really nice rc!
Awesome videos Man!!! I’ve been watching your with my 10 year old son so he can learn how work and repair his RC himself. Thank you!!!
It's amazing how one little part can make such a difference!
It amazes me that they are still selling this thing with the same problems that are common as of 10 years ago....

For prior comments, you can shim a new merv. After shimming just run a full battery pack with its wheels off the ground.
Great video, nice close up camera work, detailed thorough instructions. I used this to shim the diffs on a 1/16 Grave Digger, almost identical process but with the detailed explanation of what each step is for, was easy to do. Thanks!
I love your videos! They are so helpful. Few people cover every step like you do!

This is such valuable i fo, and a great instructional video for my mini revo project!! Thanks!

Thanks for the video how to! I just shimmed my diffs and all is good now. Thanks again!!! Subscribed.
Jester is now like the new baby in the family that gets all the attention and is spoiled.
Yeah man I second that you are right there with UltimateRC in my book
Yes. In fact sooner then you think.
Good job. Thanks for the info.
I hope we get snow because I just built a custom snow stampede

Have a wonderful day bro.
Peace out. ❤️✌️
Where did you buy yours?I cant find any on ebay.

Glad to have helped!
I had to replace my broken diff housing and it probably would have taken ages to do it without his video. Thank you for doing this!
Very well done! Thanks for creating this and sharing it. Is there a way to tell that the diff needs to be shimmed? Other than disassebmling I mean.
Usually the only way to tell if you need to shim your gears is if your diff gears strip. Also, if you RC is over a year old and the diff housing is warping from wear and tear, that would be a good time to shim them.
Thanks cant go 3s with that system only 2s which is surly more than enough being its a big block but thxs for the helpfull info
Thanks mate, just what I needed!
Nice video thanks very much 👍

Hello, I been looking for those little washers but haven't found any, what are the size or a better name to find them. Could you help me please
Can you provide an amazon link? My country has some of the highest gasoline prices on the planet. Basically i'd be paying 50 bucks just to pick it up at the hobby shop.
Honestly I don't know. Shim should last for a LONG time.
With it being new. 1 in the front and rear should work fine.
If you want it to have front drive instead of rear, it's your call. The only benefit I'd see is no more wheelies. Which would be a good thing if you plan on giving it more power.

*Hope you realize your video of merv helped me a ton. Bring some more stuff back ill watch em buddy. You still into the hobby?
what are the benefits of having a second servo i got the mini for christmas i love it.
Still cant find these shims, theyre out of stock everywhere and none on ebay.Does any other shims fit?I got my new gears but don't want to tear the truck apart if Im just going to strip them in a week.I'm disappointed in this truck.
Jester is coming along VERY fast :) cant wait to see it run on the street, Thanks for uploading jason!
The tools I use are called Vision. They are a knock off brand of Hudy that I found on eBay. Cheap but very nice.
how many shims should i use? i have put 1 in front and 1 in back but the back immediately stripped
Can't find those shims on the market. Is there another model you would recommend that will do the job? Great videos by the way!

Less strain to the servo. Since it only has to do half the work the life of the servo is prolonged.
Please!!! let us know how you polished the motor?
That sucks..so what are you going to do with the mini you have?
How long should the shim last? 50,100, 200 packs...? And how many shims for the rear? ( The Merv is brand new)
yeah
Where did you get your ball end allen heads?
Can I just use the same amount of shims that you used or is it different for every merv?
My Merv binds up a little, but is still useable. I know it's in the rear diff, does anybody have any sugestions?
Whats rhe purpose of shimming the diffs
do u plan on getting a second steering servo?
I recently replaced my front diff because I chipped a tooth on my old one.It is grinding on one section on the new diff but runs smooth on the other part. Will it just need to break in or is there a solution?
Sounds like the diff housing is warped. It will align itself in time but it shouldn't be that big of a problem.
Does this apply to the newer 1/16 revo's? Did they make any adjustments over the past 7 years?
Yes. The new Revo is all cosmetic. Still needs shims.
I'm getting a new Revo 1/16 today. So should I even do this before the first run or is it tight enough when brand new?
Should be good enough to drive right away. I'd say do this after about a month of good running.
how do you know when its too tight are you saying when u cant turn wheel any more or what?? im rebuilding my third set of shims this time using all 4 please help??
You only need 1 or 2 shims. If you can close the diff housing with out it warping you should be good.
Just keep the screws organized.
Awesome video thank you!
What motor and esc is that? It looks really nice with everything else black! I’m building one now.
I have been following jester and I would love to buy it plz reply if I can and if so how much
why would he sell you his hard earned rc? buy your own, or just go make on in minkpredft
I have a brand new merv should I shim the diffs right away? I have many hop up parts likecsteel cvds I'm installing wondering if I should shim while I'm in there its brandnew
I would say yeah. Even if it is just one shim for the front and rear, it will help. But since it's brand new, there's no immediate concern.
Thanks
Definitely put the shims in. I also have a new 1/16 revo and it took every bit of 3 runs with new 2s lipo's to make the rear diff start to slip and grind stopped car as soon as i heard the clicks and thanks to Darkeclipticheart's very imformative videos had the revo up and running without a tick from the diff the same day the shims arrived.
Thanks so much cysco
Looking to buy a cheap tool set to do work on my brushed mini revo. What are the most common used screws and sizes on it? Thanks in advance
1.5mm 2mm 2.5mm hex screwdrivers.
Ty
I shredded 2 rear diffs with the brushed motor on 2s. I bought these, will they fix the problem?
Sled_NeckX99 yes they will.
severi lybeck they fixed the problem, I put them in, and not one hiccup from my diff.
Would aluminum bulkheads remove the need to shim?
+Genesis RC Depends on the slack the bulkheads give to the diffs but in theory, yes! It would remove the need to shim.
hey, when you drove with the shims, did your MERV ever stripped the rear diff again ?
It never stripped :)
oh, okay/ Did you use LiPo tho ?
KiddDre Gaming Yeah I used 7.2v 2s Lipo. I haven't risked using 11.1v 3s on it yet.
oh, okay... thanks for the helpful video :) Ive been looking around for spacers on youtube so I can get the correct size at my hobby store (Y) Ive already stripped like 4 diffs with just regular NiMh and 1 LiPo run O_O

CAN I PUT IT IN REAR DIFF
I bought a used one but the dude said he only had one run on it. How many shims should I use?
+Ugly Musa One should be more then enough for new RCs
I'm a bit worried about taking apart my $350 RC when there's that many screws and pins and parts! How do you remember it all!
why is your car different color then mine? did you upgrade other parts for this car
franky5angels77, he dyed parts I think.
How did you make the chassis black what did you use?
He used some black rit dye I'm pretty sure
Daniels right. I used rit dye to change it black.
lol True that.
Is there a need to do it for a new merv
Aspen Sizemore, yes I think so.
Is there a way to do it without shims?
Not that I know of
Awesome vids fella, i have learnt shit loads from you especially from your nitro rustler series. Would I need to get them with brushed
Jacobs rc adventures, yes I think so.
Would they work on a slash 1/16?
yes, he said it
Is this the same for the mini summit?
+Ugly Musa Yes it's the same set up
is it u?
What does shim mean
A shim is a thin metal ring that pushes a gear in a certain direction. Shimming a gear means using a shim to reposition a gear so it performs better.
Oh did not know that
My diff is old and makes noises.Do the noises get away when I make that?
GOOD VIDEOS MAN LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!!!!
I reaaaally hate these pins. They just fall out constantly
Great tutorial, thanks!
holy crap putting these tiny screws back in is fucking annoying because they refuse to go back in all the way so you can't start screwing them back in, so pissed off right now
U almost messed it up saying it once :P
all that work just to put on a washer. if only you could do it with a snap of a finger.
Nooo. My bulhead cracked again without me noticing it. Just where the bolt is. So the front diff is gone. All I did was hid the breaks too hard, and bye bye front diff... For me- no more. Bye bye Mini e-revo. I had enough of small size RCs.
