      @@HuggNiceman Ridiculous. Everyone always talks about "rebuild" like that is some sort of guarantee. Look at Edmonton. From 07-19 they have had TEN top ten draft picks including FOUR first overall. At one point I remember the infamous 25 under 25 the Hockey News did every year and 6 of the top 10 were Oilers. What have they won again? They are now the oldest team in the league. Time to "rebuild" right? Every team in the league wants to get younger and faster. No team is building their roster in a vacuum. Gonna trade one of the best players EVER for what? So fanboys can get erections about him "playin with his buddy Nate-dog"? I would rather continue to see some of the best players ever continue to play in Pittsburgh rather than gamble on picks and prospects.

      @@pirtatejoeYou've got a lot of valid points here. I think the world "rebuild" has been thrown around so much that a lot of people online and in hockey media assume it has a specific definition and outcome, which it really doesn't. Most people expect it to be something like this: trade away valuable assets for draft capital > draft really good players and develop them quickly into NHL caliber players > develop a system with the new players and have success after a 2-4 year turnaround. In reality, that's the best case scenario. It's a completely unrealistic expectation for most franchises. Look at Buffalo. They've been rebuilding for close to a decade now. Rebuilds come in all shapes and sizes. I was merely trying to express that I think most passionate Pens fans would be okay with giving it a shot, given how lucky we've been in the recent past.

    • @pirtatejoe
      @pirtatejoe 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@HuggNiceman I think this year, you keep Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and Karlsson (yes, despite his current scapegoat status, his skill is undeniable), and either Rust or Rackell. Put together one great line. The Crosby/Malkin/Rackell line was working well. Then, I would get anything I could for anyone else. Deals just like what Dubas did for Guentzel. Some picks but mostly prospects. Then, give them all a chance to play and get a lottery pick this year. Figure out what you have next year and focus on the draft picks so that 2 years from now, for the final Crosby/Letang year, hopefully you can make a run. I think that is the best and most realistic scenario. Quite frankly, I think that is exactly what Dubas has been doing. I also think Sully is waaaayyy past his expiration date. Hire someone new to take the team in a different direction. I just think it's ridiculous to even consider trading someone like Crosby or Malkin/Letang at this point. You still have to sell those jerseys if you want to be able to spend to the cap.

    one thing that's great for both PIT and crosby is that his contract is VERY tradable. $8.7m/AAV for what sid is still able to produce on the ice is a fair bargain. plus the attention he will attract, and tickets he will sell if he decides he wants to go to a contender.
    PIT in return should be able to get a decent haul back, again if sid wants out. so far he doesn't. his loyalty is going to be tested real good, the rest of this year and the next 2 seasons. especially if he is rotting away on a dogshit team while still producing at a competitive level at his age.
    selfishly i would love to see him go to COL as the 2C, team up with his nova scotia buddy mackinnon and go on a deep p-off run.
    and just to be clear, i'm not a COL fan or hater either.

    Eller is good in the playoffs so it looks as if the Penguins are looking long term not for the playoffs.
    Of the four players mentioned Crosby would get the biggest return but I just don't see him moving. The defencemen could only be moved if Dubas threw in draft picks and/or retained salary. In my mind this makes Malkin the only one who may be able to be traded. I don't know him well enough to determine if he wants to chase another Cup or just stay and retire a Penguin.

    As a life long Pens fan the writing on the wall dried around May 7th 2018. The stars wanted to keep the band together...so they are together. Let them suffer w/ that decision. It's rumored in 2018 the Panthers were willing to trade Barkov for Malkin...straight up. That's what should've happened. We showed no interest in Trocheck...when he waited for the Pens. Imagine Crosby, Barkov, Trocheck down the center right now... I hope they don't win another game this season making it an easier decision for the stars to look elsewhere and get this rebuild going full steam. I'm grateful for all the amazing years of hockey these guys have given us, but all things must pass...and this thing passed 6 seasons ago and it's time to bury it in the ground. This isn't supposed to be a full on rebuild. Expiring contracts is one thing. Eller was on the block from day 1 of his final contract year (most likely last deadline), so don't act like this is the great sell off. I am guessing that the goalie situation and Sid was #1 this off-season, then adding pieces without term in hopes that they formed something that looks like a contender. There's only so much that you will bring in with that logic. Letang and Malkin should have been allowed to walk.

    As a Caps fan, really glad management made a move sooner rather than later but I wish they went for a long term solution. I wish they were more aggressive and had gotten a better player in their prime that would be a Center on this team for several years to come, even if it cost them a young piece like Lapierre. They now have a 35 year old Eller and a 34 year old Dowd as their bottom 6 centers. The team was doing well because they had gotten significantly younger. So in that respect it feels like a step backwards. I would have preferred a faster younger player with a more expensive price tag for sure to really make that 3rd line into a threat. Not sure Eller does anymore than stabilize it and stop the bleeding.
