Are you ready to explore the world with a sling for your next trip?
Well, we present you the all new Aer Travel Sling 2!
It's not your typical sling as this one is massive. It's got a pretty accessible front pocket, a spacious main compartment where you can fit a 16-inch laptop, and killer fabrics, specifically 1680D Cordura® ballistic nylon. This minimalist sling is huge and although it's advertised to be versatile since you can carry it in multiple options, its size makes it a little uncomfortable.

Thanks!
I've been considering this sling for a while now :)
Glad we could help!
I travel with this bag frequently. It’s the size of a medium backpack. But ultra comfortable because it’s way less confining than a back pack. Great organization.
Agreed on the comfort and organization
My favorite personal item on a plane.
I got this as a secondary bag to my main daily driver, Aer Tech Pack 2. I use this whenever I need to go anywhere else after work, like the grocery or the mall, when I need to pack lighter than usual.
Would the Tech Pack 3 not be a good size for EDC for places like a grocery store and restaurant?
depends on the person/situation - might be too bulky for some or too small for others. For me it's a good EDC size though
@@Nomads.Nation it’s a sexy bag worth considering for sure. Just don’t know about the xpac now hmmm 🤔
@@mr_red13 both are great options. If you need extreme weather resistance go with XPAC. Otherwise, just go with whichever one you like to look of 💪
@@Nomads.Nation exactly what I thought. My Tech Pack 2 is big enough to haul my daily tech gear to and from work. But if I have a few side trips I prefer carrying a much lighter bag. I know, I know The Travel Sling 2 is not small, but it is lighter than my Tech Pack 2 :D
Thanks Aaron for helping me decide a highly functional somewhat large sling that can fit 14 inch company laptop, or even my 15.6 laptop, for work days or any other everyday mobility occasions :D
Glad to help!
I've been using this bag as my daily driver, and I'm genuinely pleased with the material aesthetics.
One thing to mention is that compared to older Travel Sling 2 models, the new ones have fleece/felt lining on the quick-access pocket.
It is, in fact, a big and heavy sling. It's simply a backpack with better quick access. For public commutes, you basically have a backpack-sized bag in your lap.
But the overall design and organization makes it a good EDC bag for me.
‘It’s a backpack with better quick access’ - nicely said
I had this sling and ended up selling it… great organization and AER quality, but… when fully loaded it ended up being very uncomfortable… I guess that it’s the problem that all sling bags have if heavily loaded… backpacks are the way to go if you’re carrying a lot of stuff… great video Aaron, as usual 👍🏻
Thanks so much and totally agree
I can see a use case for it: whenever I travel, I carry a roll on suitcase and the peak design 10L sling. The sling I use for my tablet, id's, wallets, and more importantly camera and lenses that I want to keep near me. Sometimes the 10l sling feels a little small.
For sure
The 10L Pacsafe Vibe 325 is another good alternative I reckon. Probably as large as I'd go in terms of size, and with plenty of anti-theft features. It actually fits my 14" MBP which is handy, though it's freestyle in the bag and not in the dedicated tablet compartment so I gotta be careful not to bump into anything! 😆 I do feel that while it looks like a great product, the Aer TS2 reaches that point of "too big for a sling".
💯
i’ve been using this bag as my daily throughout my journey of nursing school and this back has a ton of space and is super comfortable however it does max out quick so finding the right accessories has been the struggle.
tbh i wouldn’t mind a little more space lol. also, going from back to front to access the bag is pretty seamless.
awesome review!
thanks so much! If you want a bit more space it might be time to upgrade to a backpack, this sling is already a MONSTER lol
I think the value of a sling comes from the quick maneuverability around your body which comes in handy for public transport, airplanes, etc. If you don't have far to walk/carry the bag then you might put up with the uneven weight in exchange for whatever you need that carrying capacity for - water bottle/light jacket immediately come to mind.
Great call!
I think having those external attachment straps are a thing that you don’t think you need till you need it. I have a topo mountain sling with lash straps and its def come in handy for attaching a jacket or sweater when it randomly gets hot, or if I pick something up and need to make room inside the bag.
Good looks! I’ve still never carried anything externally on a bag but maybe someday lol
I like the monarc one. Never heard of them before
great brand!
I travel for weeks at a time. I use the Peak Design 45 L backpack as my carry-on and I also have the Aer Travel Sling 2 X PAC as my personal item. Obviously I cannot use the Aer bag as a backpack. I carry it briefcase style. When I get to my destination, the backpack gets stowed away, and I use the Aer bag for day trips and such.
nice!
If you are looking for a budget alternative, here is the Tomtoc Explorer A54.
I’ll check it out!
Great review. Do you know if it can fit 8.5 x 14 size paper and documents? Thanks!
Cheers! I do not have the ability to check that right now - I’d recommend asking Aer customer support (and plz let us know what they say!)
You should try the 5.11 LV 10. Can't put a 16" laptop, but it can fit an 11" tablet.
I’ll check it out!
Got this on the used market and I think it's great as a personal item for holding tech and misc. gear. But not the most comfortable for EDC.
Nice!
I have one of these that I use a daily driver, I switch off with a more traditional Waterfield Bolt and Bellroy Via Brief (So I have black, brown, and grey options). The big sling form factor works for me cause I have a big 15.6" work laptop that won't fit into the tech sling. I commute everyday on crowded trains so backpacks are not a good option as you have to take off a backpack to sit and stand or squeeze into a packed train of people. I'm a bigger guy so a bigger sling isn't so bad for me, and my backpacks are like minimum 20L, any smaller and they look like a little kids backpack. The Aer Travel Sling is probably my biggest sling by internal volume, but I think my Defy Insidious actually has a bigger footprint on the back, just less depth. I probably wouldn't go any bigger though, for more weight than a laptop, umbrella and lunch, you'd probably want a backpack or duffel.
agreed. I gotta try me that Waterfield Bolt - looks very sophisticated yet also rugged
Hmmm.. Already have the Max 3 X-Pac (not to mention 2 other sizes) but this intrigues me... holding me back is the single strap and I'm 5'5.... not sure... but your reviews are tops as always..
Thanks! It’s not a sling for me but as you can see in the comments many ppl love it
My daily driver, excellent bag:
- Very comfortable despite size for a sling, even when full
- Sits flat on your back size
- Easy to sling to front to access entire bag, even while walking
- Only sling ive found thay fits a 16 inch laptop (let me know if theres others)
- Compression straps great option for carrying bulkier items (eg. rain coat, towel for the beach) when needed, without increasing overall footprint of the bag
- Great easy access pocket with soft lining
- XPac version is water resistant
- Luggage passthrough makes it a dream with rolling luggage, with all compartments orientated correctly
Would have been nice to have had:
- Separate compartment for laptop, like the tech sling 2
- Water bottle compartment on the side where compression straps are
- Detachable key solution
Appreciate your perspective!
@@Nomads.Nation are you aware of any other sling that can hold a 16 inch laptop?
@@Eddymundo22 am not unfortunately
What will you recommend Aer day sling 3 or Bellroy venture sling 2.5?
Bellroy
Do you have any backpack reviews when it comes to best backpacks against pickpockets during travel, good enough to avoid having to wear the backpack in front?
I do not, but great suggestion! Pacsafe and Korin basg are known to be some of the best theft-resistant, but I haven't reviewed any myself
The main compartment, which stores sensitive tech like a laptop or tablet, does not have weather resistant zippers while other compartments do?
a bit strange, I see your point
Aaron I am curious as to why you did not .ention the 5.11 Tactical LV10 sling. This AER sling is almost an EXACT replica of LV10. I have had an LV10 for over 2 years and the differences are: Emergency access BACK EDC panel for protective gear and it has a water bottle holder that will hold a 36oZ Yeti Metal bottle. The price is about the same. It is heavy when packed out but the beefy strap compensates for it. There are so many bags out there you could not possibly get them all but this is worth looking into. It was my daily carry throughout East and West Europe for weeks great bag. Thank you for your reviews they are great and always entertaining and informative. Best of luck with the launch!! I hope you sell a million.
Thanks so much! I only recommend products I’ve reviewed and I’ve never reviewed the 5.11 - hopefully soon!
I moved from the 5.11 Tactical LV10 to the Aer Travel Sling 2 after upgrading my 14" MacBook Pro M1 to the 15" MacBook Air. The MacBook Air fits perfectly, where the LV10 wouldn't work. Having said that, the Aer is my daily work to home bag, as well as travel bag. I use the 5.11 Tactical LV8 sling as my EDC around town.
@@bobbyellis2263 best of both worlds 💪

Cowabunga.! Also great for a CCW bag.?
CCW? 🤔
This is really giving me Black Ember Forge vibes. Wonder how they compare.
Forge? The backpack? Some similarities with aesthetics but they are very different products outside of that
I know aer has a specific aesthetic but there isn’t enough changes to make me buy the updated versions
Love that, no need to buy things you don’t need!
As per usual, excellent review. Just a few moments into the video, I was going to commit the cardinal sin of putting my comments in there, but I decided to read what others had written.
I was utterly surprised.
So many people think this bag is the best thing ever.
They like it as a travel bag and a personal item on a plane.
I was going to say it is too big and would be too heavy. Why would someone not just get a backpack?
But some people really like it. Having a sling arm that starts at a width of 13cm is going to provide some comfort, and I can see why some people would really love it.
BUT your body has two shoulders, and putting this much weight onto just one of them is not going to do you any favors.
If anyone needs to carry as much stuff as this bag promises to be able to transport, they should get a backpack and look after themselves.
Am I being too harsh?
I get that people love it, and I can see the appeal, but if you need the contents, get the right bag.
Which brings me to the other thing I wanted to ask you - WHEN are you going to do the Aer Tech Sling 3 review?
I wonder how this sling compares to that one. They seem very similar.
I don't even think the Tech Sling 3 is a competitor to the Tech Sling 2.
The Aer Tech Slings seem to be for very different people trying to do completely different things.
I am very eager to hear your thoughts on this.
I have the Tech Sling 2 after your recommendation, and I have not seen anything that does what it does.
I have other slings that work very well, but what that sling does is special.
Perfect for a tech-focused day out at the cafe to do some work.
Light and protective, even if it rains.
As big as a sling should possibly get - any more and you are using a backpack.
The Tech Sling 3 is bigger - much bigger. What do you think?
Excellent video once again - I am looking forward to your thoughts and to the Tech Sling 3 review and comparisons.
Thanks for you epic comment! Aer Tech 3 Sling review already shot, should be live in a few weeks 💪🏻
@@Nomads.Nation Excellent. Looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated!!
@@iu1191my pleasure!
I Hope they’ll release an orange liner version of this sling and why not an Xpac one :) I agree that the interior fabric sound under what we can expect from such a bag
It is available on their website in X-pac with the orange interior
X-Pac with orange rip stop is the version I have. It's still available on the website
I think Future Aaron's neck will thank you for using a backpack to carry heavier loads 🙂
future Aaron agrees lol
This or Tech Sling 2 or Tech Sling 3?
this is the TRAVEL Sling 2
I know❤
@@royfan4126 oh wait haha, sry dude, misread your comment 😂 Tech Sling 2 all day, but the 3 is great as well. Our review will be live for the Tech Sling 3 soon
@@Nomads.Nation nice bro
Q: What topic can you give an unrehearsed 30 minute defense of?
Me: *pulls out Aer Travel Sling 2 in X-Pac*
Patiently awaiting…
@@Nomads.Nation Probably for the best that I lost my eight paragraph reply before I could submit it. I had a whole conference travel scenario for you and everything. But I would've made the comment section unruly, so maybe it's for the best. :) The quick, stream of consciousness version:
+The assumption is that a small backpack would be better. Some thoughts:
-Backpacks are really great for ultra casual travel; but for people who work in environments where jeans & shirts aren't welcome, the pool of options narrows greatly.
-Backpacks don't offer optimal comfort for every body type. Having a larger capacity bag that doesn't involve under arm straps can be a big bonus for people with large chests.
-Horizontal storage & access to the main compartment is unique to briefs and slings (for now) and preferred for a bunch of travel situations.
+Carrying in brief mode: tighten the sling strap until it's flush against the bag, then fold the excess dangle up into the web holder. It's not at all the most elegant option but it works.
+I was with you on external bag straps I moved to the most northern state in the lower 48. It's not unusual for me to travel from 20F/-6C temp to much warmer weather. I use those compression straps to hold a packable coat so I don't have to keep track of it during transit and I don't sacrifice valuable bag space.
+I think briefs & tech forward totes are this bag's true competition - not backpacks. The Alpaka Tech Brief you mentioned is a bag I'm eager to try. I think the Black Ember Forge is also an interesting option for people who want backpack straps, but it's twice the cost and twice the weight. Honorable mention to the Alpaka Tech Tote for having dedicated water bottle storage & for standing on its own.
The Travel Sling 2 is really attractive and truly unique. It's a shmedium bag that isn't out of place around town nor in more conservative work environments. For comfortable carry that can be equal parts tech and legacy gear (e.g. physical books and notepads), it doesn't have a ton of rivals.
I love Aer, but to be honest ballistic nylon or XPac are not great material for slings. Render the sling too stiff IMHO. I’ve gone from Aer Day Sling Max to Bellroy Lite 6L to Bellroy lite Mini to Alpaka Flight Sling. There’s really little point in getting big slings to carry all your gear. Better off using a backpack for such requirement - coming from an old man with bad back and shoulder. Slings should be kept to being minimalist and lightweight.
I don't disagree with this take as I have also moved towards Bellroy slings which are lighter and their materials do feel better for smaller bags such as this. Good call!
I totally agree about the materials. I have this bag in X-Pac and it stays clean and is reasonably rugged, but it's unforgiving. And noisy as heck hehe. If Bellroy made a similar bag, I'd probably evanesce
@@ratheruninspired💯
Did he say 1oz? Hahaha
Oops haha
Every review you call your Yeti bottle a "1 ounce" 🤣
its getting to a point where I think I'm just subconsciously doing it on purpose lol
This is not a sling, it’s a messenger bag
Ur not wrong. But it is kinda also a sling. But it’s also not. I’m not confused at all.
I think sling is good for up to medium size carry, if the carry is too big you better go with backpack much more comfortable IMHO, it makes no sense to carry a backpack size sling
That’s kinda what I’m saying…
