  • The Panasonic Toughpad G1 is coming soon. It will be the first Rugged Windows 8 tablet to hit the market. It's IP65 rated and MIL810G tested and it looks... well, tough.
    Unlike it's predecessors (Toughbook H1, H2) the Toughpad G1 actually has a very nice screen. A brilliant fine detail 1600x1200 resolution outdoor viewable panel with IPS for comfortable wide viewing. Like the H1 and H2 though it suffers from a poor bezel design. Seems we just can't have everything!
    64 - 256Gb storage options, 4 or 8Gb of RAM and a third generation Intel Core i5 processor put the Toughpad G1 up with the highest performance tablets on the market. A true powerhouse!
    It's expected in April. Check www.tabletpc.com.au for a demonstration and availability.

    Thanks. It was the info I was looking for. At the same time, the back ground was making me home sick ! It reminded me of Bensville.

    Thanks for the clarification regarding the camera; I imagine more than just a bit frustrating for Motion Computing considering the extreme high end quality otherwise of its products

    Sorry, missed your earlier comment about the IPS display but I would be very interested in a comparison or your further comments in that regard

    Hi Lloyd. IPS on the G1 looked good, but I didn't compare it side by side with the F5t. The camera is certainly a good thing too. Motion F5 still has a much better ecosystem of peripherals like the Readydock, Vehicle Mounting and carry options. Plus it's been around for many years which means that things like batteries and pens are easy to come by. It's good to finally have some competition for Motion though. Keep them on their toes!

    similarly a comparison indoors with what I understand - based on what I have read on the internet - is an improved HD IPS screen on the Fujitsu Lifebook T902 and the HD IPS displays of computers such as the Sony Vaio Duo 11.

    The 3MP camera in the F5t is there because of a limitation in Windows XP and 7 on camera support. i.e. 3MP is the max. When Motion launches a Windows 8 tablet (no doubt soon) they will have a higher MP camera on board. Bear in mind that 5MP is wasted under Windows 7, you can only see 3MP even on the G1.

    I don't think its a huge deal. Most customers don't find it to be an issue since taking photos with any tablet camera is pretty average. They really use the camera for convenience rather than quality. Still it's good to see Panasonic raising the bar for once!

    Good design. Shame for users, and Panasonic, that the battery was not able to be made hot-swappable like the Motion Computing F5t. However, the 5 megapixel camera should give it one advantage over the F5t - by enabling it to produce photos with greater clarity and detail. Is the Panasonic IPS display as clear as the Hydis AFFS+ screen in the F5t?

    I think Motion need to upgrade their camera eg to a good quality 5 megapixel, and, judging from reviews I have read on the intemet I am not the only person who thinks that. Even far inferior tablets tablets are now coming out with far better cameras. However, I think Panasonic slipped up badly not having a hot swappable battery. How does its IPS display compare to the AFFS+?

    Whats the difference between this and a surface pro with a heavy duty case?

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big difference! There is a lot more to a rugged tablet than a case. For example a case that brings the Surface Pro up to IP65 standard would restrict port access, diminish airflow (think overheating) and screen visibility. Due to fan and intake design on the Surface Pro I would not recommend it for dusty or wet environments. Surface Pro is brilliant, but it is not a rugged tablet by a long shot..

      Forgot to say, good question though! This is something we get asked often, and l hope this brief reply helps!

      oztabletpc yes. Btw, which do you prefer, the panasonic H2 or motion F5t?

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      l prefer F5t: Thinner profile, better Screen, better processor etc...

    Compared to what? A pencil? This tablet is actually vert cheap for a rugged tablet of this standard. In fact, making any calls on price really misses the point altogether.
    What matters is value, not price. If you work on a mine site and you need a computer to do your mapping job then what is a computer that doesn't break worth?
    But if you want a tablet for couch surfing, then you don't need rugged!

    amoled screen r better for sunlight

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julian Hedges As I understand Amoled has caught up to LCD tech on outdoor screen generally, but the panel is only part of the story. Direct bonding, polarisers and anti-glare treatments are all important, not to mention brightness output.
