Calling Jim Glickenhaus a "car collector" is a bit of an understatement. He owns, operates a race team, and is a full-blown manufacturer of supercars and a film director. He's not just a guy who likes cars.
Luca DiMontezemolo gave his blessing only after he demanded to inspect the car and the design, which was against Pinifarina’s protocol regarding client confidentiality on bespoke and one-off projects. He was furious that Pininfarina was undertaking this project on a current Ferrari halo-car without his prior consent (typical prissy preening and bitchy Ferrari behavior). Luca finally decided the “P4/5” was a faithfully executed modern interpretation of the old P3/4 race car and allowed the car to be referred to as a Ferrari.

This is quite a famous one off Ferrari, it’s done the rounds for years. James is basically a Ferrari P4 obsessed fan. Being a rich self made movie mogul, he got the whole Glickenhaus race team story going after he courted publicity and beefed up connections in the auto racing world with this fantastic Ferrari P4/5 creation. Money often begats other things than just more money.
The Ferrari Enzo is obviously an icon and an amazing car. I think what they created here was something completely different, unique, and I think they did an incredible job with it. Ferrari should have been flattered honestly. It's such a beautiful hommage to the 330 P4.
There's a bunch of companies that do stuff like this . They know that money and brains don't necessarily walk hand in hand . They learn that from companies like portion Ferrari who make a stripped out version of a normal car and sell it for twice as much . In a logical world , removing a bunch of stuff from something should make less valuable . But in the land of Porsche removing half the car makes it more valuable . People will pay a million dollars for a GT2 , when they could make their own by simply removing part of the Porsche 911 Turbo . After all all it is is a stripped-down lightweight version of the 911 Turbo . A car that already costs way too much .
Glickenhaus build bespoke sportscars and racing cars, that Ferrari started something for Jim. Plus, if you look at the current design language of Glickenhaus, it’s very in-keeping with that design.
Whist I wouldn’t do that to my theoretical Enzo it’s unlikely I would ever have more than one. That’s cool - he probably has another Enzo so no compromise
This was an improvement on the Ferrari Enzo. To boot, I believe at the time, when opinion was split on the Enzo design, this stood out as the perfection of that design.
The Ferrari chairman at the time, Luca di Montezemolo, actually gave his seal of approval for the car after seeing it, hence it being allowed to use the Ferrari name.
But the same can not be said about the later racing version they made out of a F430 GT2. That one was called "Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus", not Ferrari...
Literally a 1 of 1 made by the same guys that have been designing Ferrari's since forever and is a throwback to the old race car I think is great even amazing
Never really liked the Enzo or Ferrari for that matter. They sell you cars that you cannot legally drive on the street and scold you if you change anything besides the internal clock. Lamborghini will sell you anything and tell you have fun! Cool idea but I'll pass on Ferrari.
