This is our premiere of a new, original, educational series by SailZing.com called SAILZING TACTICAL IQ. The idea is to get a group of racing sailors around a table and present them with various racing scenarios and ask them questions and see what you can learn. This session covered Starting Scenarios using SailZing's Fleet Kit model boats.
    Scenario 1 - Lurking 00:30
A group of boats all want to start at the RC boat end of the line. Who has the advantage? What tactics can they each employ to maximize their advantage?
    Scenario 2 - Shutting the Door 06:37
A head to head at the RC boat presents questions about overlaps, luffing rights and obstacles.
    Scenario 3 - Stealing a Hole 09:07
A leeward boat gains an overlap. What are your tactics for managing this situation?
    Scenario 4 - Port Approach 12:11
A port boat is approaching a hole on the line. What is the best tactic for taking the spot or preventing this?
    Scenario 5 - Kinetics 17:17
You sheet in, bear off, let the boat heel up again and then aggressively flatten the boat by hiking as you turn back up. Are racing rules violated?
    Scenario 6 - Crowded Port Approach 19:56
A port tack boat on the port end wants to start on the starboard end. What are their options and concerns?
Boat handling, racing psychology and rules are discussed in this session.

I really really liked this. I'm sure it's fairly basic for people who have raced for a while, but though I've sailed a few years I just started racing last year. So thank you.

Couldn't hear whether yellow boat would push or pull the rudder to drift down on boat 3 during second minute of video and didn't understand the cacophony of alternative answers given. Did yellow push the rudder?

As long as you are moving sideways with the centerboard up, then pushing the tiller away to aid in that motion sounds like a good option to me, just try not to capsize with that centerboard up.
