Thanks for this. I haven't taken out my gear in a couple years. Practiced rappelling from some tall trees in my yard using this method. Really enjoying the quick bits of knowledge.
Usually called a macrame knot. If the non-rappel side is inadvertently pulled it will come undone in about 0.5 seconds. Richard Delaney (Rope Lab Richard) recently did a video on it coming apart.
Better to extend the safety loop in order to clip the safety biner into the original wrap around the tree. Otherwise if someone raps on the incorrect side it could pull the safety biner through and become a very bad day.
Alot of extra steps when you can just simply take one end of the loop and wrap it around your anchor and pull the rope through. One quick tug on the none rappeling side rope will recover it

Semper Fi Brother, great knowledge.
I have never seen that method before. Thanks for sharing.
What is the name of the node? And is it possible to use the Bulin knot for training descents as an alternative?
can i use it for descending without carbiner?

more friction will be put onto the rope as you retrieve it.
@@JaredMaxwellFoo A little bit, but you can also use a carabiner too
