My mother made her own custard too... she started her banana pudding with the custard, then a layer of cookies laid edge to edge. Then she put a slice of banana on top of each cookie. Another layer of custard, another of vanilla wafers laid edge to edge and banana on each cookie. Repeat til bowl is full. The top layer should be only cookies. She didn't add the whipped topping on top. I remember she used glass bowls as she also lined the sides with the vanilla wafers and it was so pretty. I got her a large trifle bowl, she started using that. Her banana pudding was so good it was requested at family gatherings and church potlucks. But she always made a small one for her and dad to enjoy at home...there were never leftovers from these functions.

My father was a professor at the divinity school for 40 years(?) and my siblings and I were brain-washed as children.. my point is that I'm really glad that your mother went to one of the BEST hospitals to have her eye work done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prayers are sent for her to have a speedy recovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made this tonite!! But used 3/4 cup total sugar and in a deep round bowl. I assembled it all while custard still warm so the cookies could soak up that good custard better. Used some overripe bananas from my freezer so they were mushy but so sweet. I think it’s gonna be delish!!! Thanks!

I LOVE the fact that this isn't perfect, makes it very human and fun- off to try it! (I would've loved it if right when he first realized the bowl was too big, he'd turned around, took the spatula, put the custard back in the bowl, rummaged around for a smaller bowl, and started again- it would've been very cute and something everyone would identify with 😄💕)

Oh, Bobby Dean, it was so lovely to watch this video. I to, spend alot of time lightening my favorite recipes. I have been an insulin dependent diabetic since I was very young. I have actually modified this recipe with Truvia instead of sugar, and I substitute unsweetened almond milk in recipes where milk I requires. That way, I can still enjoy the whipped cream and other delishishness. Lobe watching you shine on your own as well. Thanks.
