How To Make The Vintage 1966 Freeze Queen Ice Cream Maker - Christmas Candy Cane Ice Cream

  • Vintage 1966 Freeze Queen Ice Cream Maker - Christmas Candy Cane Ice Cream - This was a challenging ice cream maker to work with. Back in 1966 it probably worked much better, but after the years, the plastic gets old and the sealing of the bottom gasket was probably much better. I did test it with water and realized it needed the extra gasket and also to be pressed down with a little more pressure. It ended up working great on video. I hope you enjoyed the video and maybe you can make this for Christmas dessert.

*MERRY CHRISTMAS* The amount of patience that you have for these old, vintage makers and toys always amazes me. I am fairly good at fixing old things, but I do not have your patience! LOL! I can remember a friend of mine had this maker, and it was always kind of a pain, but it did make good ice cream. She had this, and I had a snow cone maker, and between the two of us... managed to rob our friends of their allowance every Friday afternoon during summer vacation... I charged a penny per snow cone, and she charged two cents per ice cream cone.... hey back then, a penny bought as much as five pieces of candy!!! So it WAS a big deal. Thanks for some happy memories on this Christmas Day! My best to you and yours, LPS Dave.

As a kid remember the old Sears Kenmore ice cream machine we had.We always made peach ice cream from scratch-had a peach tree in the yard.Made the ice cream in the summer-was SO GOOD on a hot day. When we were making the ice cream-waiting in anticipation when the freezer motor stalled indicating the ice cream was done!!Everyone in the family licked the dasher with spoons-then we had the ice cream! The freezer used the ice and salt mixture like the machines reviewed here.

I had one! I got it Christmas 1966. It was a disappointment because I could never get the canister to freeze up, which means, I always got watery ice cream. I even tried freezing it without the salt, and it was not cold enough to make the ice cream. I had to settle on placing real ice cream into the canisters and making the cones. I ended up selling it at a rummage sale.
Fast forward to now - I realize we must have had a lousy freezer because yours works exactly like the instructions state that it is supposed to work. The sixties toy that worked right out of the box, for me, was the Enemee Lollypop Factory; it works 60 years later, and I still have it.

I have always been amazed at how these very much older (i.e. 60's and 70's) toy maker sets were supposed to be designed to be used exclusively by kids. They seem too unstable for use without a lot of adult help. I know this set was more unpredictable than it probably would have been if it was brand new. I also like how you take the time to make sure that the maker will work as best as possible, even if that means having to make modifications to the set or fix faulty mechanical parts and/or faulty wiring. You do a great job of fixing older makers and ovens. You could make a side living of having people send you their faulty vintage toys or maker sets and paying you to fix the toys for them. Great video as always.

I had this toy and we had a zero degree freezer. But the small piece of paper that is stapled to your directions book was not there. So the canister never froze and the toy went into the trash. The fact that the paper was stapled to the directions means that yours was a later production model. Obviously Customer Service got complaints from parents that had the same problem that I had and they modified the directions. You even say in the video that you had to adjust your canister to get it to freeze properly. I imagine that is why yours had a canister missing. I have thought of buying it again for myself but the majority that turn up have too much rust on and inside the canisters to make then usable. Merry Christmas LPS-Dave!
