I am a black woman raised in white communities way back in the 1960s and 1970s. We were the only black family in the community I grew up in. But actually my family didn't talk about it much! Rita, being so open, straightforward, and communicating honestly with Justice gave him the ability to process the obvious changes he was facing. What an amazing mom you are, Rita! You can tell by his responses he is very grounded and mature! But I was accused of not being black because I talked proper English not by whites in school but blacks who eventually came into school. But I attained so much healing when I came to CHRIST back in the 1980s! He has grounded my life in ways I never expected! Hiw sweet when Rita said to Justice, 'your the best song I ever wrote!"
I was adopted at birth and the best thing my parents did for me was be complete honest and transparent about it my WHOLE life! I don’t remember ever “finding out.” My adopted father passed from cancer when I was in high school, but thankfully now I have a wonderful relationship with my bio dad. I naturally feel and wonder about the abandonment aspect of adoption, but at the end of the day, I am SO grateful that I am where I am. Praise the Lord
Rita, this gives me HOPE! I’m obsessed with Justice. He’s an amazing kid! I am an adoptive (white) mom of 4 brown/black babies. And I pray everyday that they will grow up with a firm foundation and identity in the Lord, KNOWING they are loved, and being able to navigate well the challenges of being a different ethnicity than their parents. Justice gives me so much hope. I pray that my kids can give me as much grace as he does you! Well done, Rita. You and the Lord did a great job.
I can't beleive how fast it seems your beautiful son has grown up. Wow!!! I met him as a little one at a Morningstar conference where you were leading worship. God is so good!
My children are black I am black and a widow. My kids were always told why are you talking like a white person. Well they always had proper English. They would have to say I'm not talking white just because I talk proper doesn't mean I'm talking white. I think this is awesome she adopted him no matter what color he was. God bless her. I know people have a problem with this but that's on them. Love you Rita and love your honestly.❤
Black people who have internalized white racism towards them are those who think speaking proper English and being decent in certain ways makes you not "to be "acting black", most educated African-raised blacks also do get people saying that they are acting white.
I’ve gotten that all my life and I was raised by a black mother and father. But my parents were both in the military so we spent half our childhood in Germany. My sister and I didn’t fit in with black culture for a long time.
I feel like this mentality is just in the US. In most African countries, people don't question because it depends on the schools one went to and if the person maybe lived abroad. What surprises me about the US is that you live among whites, blacks, and other cultures so one can adapt to whatever way of speaking. It should be simple to understand.
@@Flourish_today a lot of things are simple common sense things but Americans make it a race issue, they associate every negative thing to being black but if white people do the same negative thing they simply look away. If you go to many predominantly white towns you will find majority of them speaking poor and hood English and also their behavior is like that of typical less educated people but nobody will associate illiteracy and bad English with being white. White Americans are the majority and they are obsessed with making themselves look superior before everyone else
The difference between him and another adopted child is that you were totally honest with him from the beginning.. adopted kids often feel as though their life is a lie when they find out their adopted later on in life. So you conquered the potential fear.. what a great job you’ve done.. God bless you!!!
Thanks for this little glimpse into your lives and Justice's adoption story. You raised an incredible young man! May God continue to richly bless you. No doubt He is doing (and will continue to do) great things through both you and Justice! 🙏
Goshhhhh...this brought me to tears....to see how much God loves you, Rita... Justice is perfect for the world...what a beautiful human you have raised...THANK YOU
He’s such a gem!!! Also super encouraging and believing for my own son who’s similar in temperament to develop that same resilience when people try to label him or have issues with him. Right now it really bothers him, but I’m trying to just be sensitive and empathize with him when he brings it up. So encouraging!!
I heard you speak at the Girls Conf at Encounter Church in Groves TX this past weekend. It was great in every way. Loved loved loved the anthem *Amen"; spoke volumes to my ❤️. Also, I have a 52 year old adopted black son named Ian (God's gracious gift). You and I are from the same tribe in many ways sister/friend❤️❤️❤️
Oh my goodness thank you so much for sharing this! I am also an adoptive mom. Seeing you laughing through that horrible day when he was gone…so helpful since we experienced something similar. Thank you also for your worship and your songs…I honestly can not imagine how to have a life of faith without checking in with you. May God bless you and your son.
I love seeing the beautiful relationship between Rita and her adorable handsome son now at 19. You can just tell they genuinely have a really special bond and really meaningful parent/child relationship. You can authentically see the love and affection they both have for each other. Especially in their eyes. Melts my heart. Hearing their amazing God story of how He brought them together is just deeply touching. I’m really happy we were given the opportunity to hear Justice’s thoughts and perspective after hearing how Daddy God unfolded this precious story of adoption. He clearly handpicked Justice for Rita to adopt as her own. I know this type of setup isn’t always easy to navigate when the cultural backgrounds are different because I have dear friends who have been foster parents who have adopted 3 precious kids after having 3 biological kids of their own. But obviously Rita has done such a fantastic job of partnering with Daddy God to raise her son with Justice always feeling like she was really honoring and sensitive of Justice being a beautiful black child that she was raising as a white mother. And my dear friends have done the same with their precious adoptive kids who came into this world as beautiful black and Latino babies. God love stories are the best! 💜
So beautifully honest, thank you both. I forced my girls to church and they are both in their 40ties and not interested. But God is awakening and restoring……
So grateful you're having this conversation publicly. I'm an adoptive parent and therapist that works with this topic and still struggle with the lack of transparency in this area. THANK YOU!
Hi Rita, I remember when he was little. I was at Life Center and was friends with Johanna and her family. We saw you and Dawn in Kelona once upon a time. Good to see you both are happy and well! ❤
So cool to hear this conversation "live". Thanks to both of you for letting us in. And Rita, my husband was adopted and always thought of it as normal as a kid. He figured everyone must have 2 dads and 2 moms. Because he was happy 😊 (like Justice). Bless you!
Such a joy to watch, thank you for letting us in on this incredible journey, Rita, and meeting Justice. He has a similar disposition to my husband, who’s an enneagram 9 :)
I love the honesty between the two of you. Rita thank you for sharing your son with us. And Justice, you are an amazing young man with an extremely bright future. Thank you both for sharing. 💕
Rita I love your transparency about adoption, your love for Justice is felt through the podcast ,Thankyou for giving him the best to your ability, he grew in a handsome man, 👍🏽🙏🏽
I love you guys soooo much!! 💖 I’ve loved your relationship ever since I came across that picture you posted of your hands, holding hands. I think Justice was between 5 or 7.. maybe younger. I wrote you an email sharing my story how the Lord had given me several dreams that I would one day adopt my “night-skin boy”. I’m so proud of both of you being such a witness to real love not perfection. Justice has so much grace for being so young. Most kids wouldn’t go through an interview like that. Love you both! ❤️ btw, still waiting for my night-skin boy 🖤❣️
This was a great watch. Rita, you’ve done a great job raising Justice for his worst thing to be “Holister not giving me enough hours.” 😂 I can tell he’s still on his own young journey of trusting and putting his faith in God, and it becoming his own personal confession of faith. Love your verbal procession, Rita!
21:32 THANK YOU FOR THIS STATEMENT.. Has nothing to do with the Main Topic BUT my Son is in Elementry School and gets very mad very quick… i always pray for him BUT to her YOU today made me believe even more that he is gowing to life in SHALOM from the inside 🙌🏼👑💎❤️ THANK YOU!!!
Im about almost 7 minutes in and this is just a joy. Awesome! Always been a big fan and it's so neat to hear justice speak and watch you guys communicate. So great, love it
Love how the Lord placed the two of you together because you compliment each other so well as mom and child!!! Its so good that you have such open conversations with each other and your love and respect for each other is so genuine! Good that you can look back and laugh at things like when Justice ran away! 😂 Keep holding onto Jesus and let him lead and define you! You're His beautiful children!!! ❤❤
Yes!! Also, I'm a pattern-noticer and I always look for symbols in everything (whether it was intentional or not). I love that the first episode featuring Justice and they have a bowl of pears on the table - and it's the first episode with the "pair" of them :D
My son adopted a boy and girl and they are black. These are my grandbabies and I love them so much. They are now 3 and 4 and when I visit them they sit with me for hours with a few up and downs. But they are everything and what is color. It's just a color. God bless you
I was adopted as a baby My parents didn't tell me , I was not an easy kid, a letter came through the post at 28 telling me that my birth mother wanted to know how I was doing. I thought that it was s joke until I realized that it wasnt A social worker asked me if I didn't ever think that I looked like the people that adopted me, strangely I look exactly like my dad, I was told that the parents mold their children, I don't know how you mold features but ...? Going forward I met my biological parent my mother first within 3 days of finding out through someone telling me that I look like his brothers girlfriend, turned out we have the same mother and father she is 1yr 3 mth older than me. A long story but I thank God for my life. It's made me laid back realizing I'm not in control God has a plan. Also, the bust with greenery growing out of the head adds humor. Is that the dining room? Who is your interior designer? Love it! ❤
I was waiting for this one to air, and it didn’t disappoint! You guys have such a sweet dynamic. The Lord knew exactly what he was doing with making you both a family. Justice is lowkey hilarious also 😂 I say we get more content with both you guys!
Thank goodness for this podcast it was priceless, Rita your a blessed woman , your son is a gift and he loves Jesus and life , your love for each other is real and authentic, ♥️🇨🇦
Is soo beautiful seeing not only you as a mother raising up a boy but co parenting with YHWH. I wish I had that strength. I had four kids that I walked away from. At the time I had alot of spiritual warfare and was on my own as my abusive husband had left. I had then been diagnosed with a brain lesion that developed through trauma. I just froze and didn’t see my children as my own. I went from adoration for my kids to seeing strangers. My sister now has custody after I wasn’t in their lives for 8years. Back then if I could tell my younger self I would of pulled God to the center instead of allowing the enemy to destroy my family. I really admire women like you and my sister in taking a stand for the most vulnerable being our children. ❤
2nd grade is when many kids begin entering middle childhood, and so that makes sense that that's when the reality of adoption became comprehensible to him.
As a black man I say it’s great not to embrace the black culture or what I called a subculture. I know as young people we try to fit in but I don’t believe race 22:06 has a lot to do it. My dad used to tell me that you really only have three or four true friends your whole life. Those are the ones that you need to embrace find your compatibility with. Everything else is just superficial fluff
I think the very fact that Mom didn't try to hide or cover up the fact that he was adopted that's just a normal for them that was their normal but if somebody tries to keep something a secret it's just like why would you want to keep it a secret why are you afraid or ashamed or are you going to feel unloved or they might not love you or something like that but to live in the reality that it was absolutely normal this is your mom this is your son bingo it is what it is.
Patience and Godly Justice go together! (Yes, this is a deliberate double entendres…) Patience, as stated in Peter’s letters to the body, is to regarded as His Salvation: 2 Peter 3:9 (Amplified Bible) The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance. 1 John 1:9 (Amplified Bible) If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action]. Your son’s patience, graciousness, kindness and perspective demonstrate the fruit/manifestation of the Holy Spirit living within him! You have an amazing son, and Rita, you are an amazing woman who allows the Holy Spirit to reign, teach, correct and mature you as you journey on this Lovewalk with the Lord! Keep walking, Dear One! Doc 1 Thessalonians 2:8
Thank you for sharing with your son, I know you keep bringing up that he's black and you are white, my friend is white like you and has birthed a black son from her black husband.. but you keep saying that you are white and naturally color different, don't really think that matters. But would like you to allow him to talk you keep interpreting him as he's talking. I love you and watch your ministry, but let him talk. Love you both thank you for raising a beatiful son.
In this day and age I often wonder how it is that people in America still equate color with “culture.” I grew up in the late 1960’s& 1970’s in NYC. I had friends of all hues and status. How is it in 2024 that all of us in this country come from some other nation allow ourselves to be “tribalized” or treated like chess pieces on a board♟️by some invisible puppet master. Then in the church and faith, we seem to have the same issues. That’s why Paul the apostle in Corinthians said, “IF ANY MAN (WOMAN) BE IN CHRIST HE IS A NEW CREATION-- old things are passed away and behold ALL things become NEW. (2Cor. 5:17) As Creator God was creating when He made us, expressing His diversity. He made the red rose, the pink carnation, purple tulip; He also made the river, ocean, pond, stream; The elephant, polar bear, American black bear🐻 When He created His workmanship God was just having fun🤩 expressing Himself. May we lean in to hear His loving, gentle whisper saying, “I love You” over us❤️
@justice..... You are an AWESOME BLACK MAN..... Even more YOU GOT YOUR IDENTITY AS A BELOVED SON OF GOD MOST HIGH..... I did a lot of my growing up in city of Brotherly Love..... Philadelphia.... Don't pay no mind to what people are saying... There are some things that aren't "black" but some people will be them and claim them anyway
You never hardly let him finish what he’s has to say. Slow down and listen so we could really listen to what he feels and has to say. Just a thought. I love you and your music but slow down and listen ok
On the edge of my seat biting my nails
Handsome young man. Can't wait Rita 🩷
Excited to hear his perspective!
I loved seeing a mother just talking to her child, asking questions and really listening to know him. Lots of parents don’t do this
I was forced into church as a child and believe it was a good thing for me~ I love God and continue to want more of Him
Sorry as a child you can not be forced into church, you were a child not an adult hope you see the difference.

What a beautiful relationship between mother and son ❤
What a sweet kid! Great job mom!!
What I learned the most from this is how to keep a healthy connection with my child and teenager❤

Thank you for this video! This is something that is not talked about enough, and our adopted kids need to know that they are not alone❤
Beautiful ❤️ Beautiful for letting God use you for this young man and for sharing the anointing and love from Him to the world 😊

I thought the same
Yes!! Also, I'm a pattern-noticer and I always look for symbols in everything (whether it was intentional or not). I love that the first episode featuring Justice and they have a bowl of pears on the table - and it's the first episode with the "pair" of them :D

God's planes are perfect.! Love your testimony. Justice is very handsome. God bless him!🙏❤
What great story of ❤️.
God’s peace 🙌🏼🙌🏼
This is a beautiful story. I love it 🥰. Hopefully society will move forward and forget the color and see Jesus. This young man is very special 🥰🙏🏽

Love this! Try Chik fila for a job. They offer college scholarships and train you in leadership.
Hoping Justice sees and hears Thomas Sowell as a man who speaks well and intelligently and who is also a representation of Black men in America.
He loves and adores you so much…mama I think you need to pat yourself on the back and know you did a great job
Patience and Godly Justice go together! (Yes, this is a deliberate double entendres…) Patience, as stated in Peter’s letters to the body, is to regarded as His Salvation:
2 Peter 3:9 (Amplified Bible)
The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.
1 John 1:9 (Amplified Bible)
If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].

If he’s creative, he’s creative. I think we born as we are.
He should be glad. Many don't have the opportunity he has.
Yes.. definitely more opportunities.
can so imagine shes a verbal processor and talks alot lol - but what a great voice shes got for singing!
Well done mom
It may just be me, but I'm experiencing a volume difference between the two of you.
What is his TH-cam name ?
(2Cor. 5:17)
As Creator God was creating when He made us, expressing His diversity. He made the red rose, the pink carnation, purple tulip; He also made the river, ocean, pond, stream; The elephant, polar bear, American black bear🐻 When He created His workmanship God was just having fun🤩 expressing Himself. May we lean in to hear His loving, gentle whisper saying, “I love You” over us❤️
Our skin and hair needs adequate moisturiser. You could have brought him some lip balm moisturiser - for the love of Jesus it isn’t too late.
He is old enough to learn how to look after his skin and hair by now. Tips abound all over how to care for black skin
💜💖💚💛💜💖💚💛
Thanks for sharing this beautiful interview. Justice is definitely a handsome and chilled kid. The love between you both is evidently clear. ❤
I’m black raised by black parents. I drove up to a fast food window. The girl said, you sound white! Smh. Stereotypes.
So limiting and frustrating. We are blessed with freedom in Christ.
he's pretty hot lol - amazing that she took this risk and obeyed God
@justice..... You are an AWESOME BLACK MAN..... Even more YOU GOT YOUR IDENTITY AS A BELOVED SON OF GOD MOST HIGH.....
I did a lot of my growing up in city of Brotherly Love..... Philadelphia.... Don't pay no mind to what people are saying... There are some things that aren't "black" but some people will be them and claim them anyway
You never hardly let him finish what he’s has to say. Slow down and listen so we could really listen to what he feels and has to say. Just a thought. I love you and your music but slow down and listen ok
You are being mean!! Show some respect to the lady!!
