We Tried This Amazing 740 hp Ultracar: The McLaren 750S!

It was the sound that got me. There's a point when the turbos really start to spool up and it feels like something is happening on its own, like the revs are in some kind of feedback loop, building on itself, and what's really an amiable burble around town becomes the piercing racecar shriek of a small-displacement V-8 making irrational power. The turbos whine and the sticky foot-wide tires in the back fling pebbles into the bodywork and wherever you were just looking is now behind you. The McLaren 750S is not a car, it is a time machine: It takes the future in front of you and makes it into the past.
When I was a teenager-and I'm seriously dating myself here-an American performance car might top 200 HP, and the most exotic Italian cars on the posters on our walls didn't even double that. Which is why I have a hard time comprehending not just that anyone thought they needed more power than the McLaren 720S, but that it was possible to begin with.
