    My humble opinion: would’ve been great to have mentioned C. G. Jung. His theory about archetypes and the collective unconscious explains some of the stuff mentioned on this video.

      You are spot on,
      Jung is/was much more that folks realize.. if I may say: modern day physics, holographic theory , ancient religion/ mystery schools, hermeticism, pan psychism etc. all are pointing to the concept that all is mind/ information, and we are a smaller organization (organism) in an infinite organization (organism)
      Simulation theory also points to this but it ain’t a computer in somebodies basement - it is the All💫

    I’m just trying to break it to my mom:
    Me: “Mom my girl friend is a Thelemite”
    Mom: “What is a Thelemite “?
    Me : “Have you heard of Alister Crowley”?
    Mom: “Who is that”?
    Me: “He was on the Beatles album cover, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
    Mom: “That’s nice dear”

      How could you have possibly known? Your absolutely correct. I’m not allowed to have a girlfriend. My wife of 22 years won’t let me have one. It was just an innocent joke, I’m here because as the nice lady said: I’m eclectic. So now that we have established your very intuitive, why are you here?

    This is a good summary of the perspectives. I syncretize from four different cultural regions (Hellenistic/East Mediterranean traditions, British folk traditions, Hinduism and Mexican magic). The Hellenistic stuff is the common thread (yes, even for Hinduism, which has historical precedent... Buddhism more so). Even if you want to focus on ideas that are Christian in origin, Jesus is an accepted figure in all of them to an extent, although I tend to focus on the Pagan and philosophical threads, and all of them basically say that in order to have the Divine be experienced or aid you in your life, you seek out the help of spiritual entities that are more earthly to intercede on your behalf. You can seek out God directly but that's going to be a more demanding and time-consuming road compared to just getting your life together and learning on the way.

  • @davidnagy1046
    @davidnagy1046 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    recently i was looking into some folk saints and found out that some people practice catholicism and their folk religion at the same time and that seems like a good perspective - in Hellenistic times ppl were initiated into different mystery cults, and practiced them as their religion, along with the 'official' state religion, so yeah...

      Thailand is like that, too. Animism/folk magic is still very, very prevalent there, but it has a layer of Buddhism over it now and that formed the metaphysical framework for their older occult practices in a lot of regions

    Yes, in the 90's eclectic was the mainstay. Only because most our resources were limited to what was in the book store.
    With the internet, we got direct access to the source material and jumping off points to other books. In specific practices.

    • @NormieNeko
      @NormieNeko ปีที่แล้ว

      I think "my truth" vs "the truth" overlaps but also differs a lot. I turned towards perennialism in searching for "the truth." Personal truth can get too bipolar. I think there are multiple paths leading to the same place, but I wouldn't say every path leads to a destination.

  • @kamahaazi

    I feel like this is a great reference for anyone getting into Paganism or other similar paths. As a baby Ecclectic Witch, I dipped my toes in a bunch of pools - and looking back I kinda cringe on how clumsy I was about it. But now looking back on it, I knew what I was seeking, I just didn't know where it was.

    When religion & economics overlap, capitalism can create a perverse incentive to resist any sort of combination of spiritual traditions. If someone has a book, institution, etc., that brings in money, people might be more likely to "buy" from them if their ideas are presented as pure, wholly unique, & *exclusive* truth. And it's self-serving for those people who claim to have a patent on truth to "excommunicate" heretics from the marketplace.

    I know this is just a rough sketch of the landscape, but, as a perennialist, I'd deny the articulation you here provide. It's a pretty wide topic that deserves it's own video- maybe something you'll do someday? For instance, Huxleyian perennialism differs from more traditionalist forms of perrennialism (a la Guenon and Schuon), and then you even have the more tame perennialism of thinkers like David Bentley Hart. For an example of ways perennialists disagree with each other, we can deny that the experiences are themselves identical (in fact there are so many varieties of mystical/gnostic experiences that efforts to assert identity across them can end up rather procrustean) or even deny that the experiences involve a common factor. However, we can say that there are many different kinds of experiences, each of which glimpsing a Transcendent (notice how this is a conceptually distinct claim, i.e. experience perennialism vs. reference/source perennialism). That is to say, a perennialist could simply assert that there is sufficient intrinsic indication within gnosis realizations across traditions to indicate a common Transcendent referent, despite that referent remaining transcendent, in its essence, to the experiences themselves. We can also disagree with one another about the necessity or role of Tradition with regard to achieving a glimpse of the Transcendent. Claiming that religions share a reference to a Transcendent is also a conceptually distinct claim from saying that religions share an esoteric content, or even that this shared esoteric content is experiential. I've had robust debates with fellow perennialists, such that the term really is just a convenient designator for a family of tendencies, rather than being a definite school of thought.

    Personally, I wouldn't see these ideas as being parts of a spectrum. Rather, I see them as representing each apex of a triangle. As you move from each apex, the various concepts begin to merge until at the centre there is an influence from all three concepts. For example, my own beliefs start from the perspective of agreeing with perennialism - all forms arise from 'the one', whatever 'the one' is. But, then my personality finds some forms easier to relate to than others, ie I become eclectic and choose which paths and ideas to work with. Finally, I combine these chosen paths into a single form which I refer to as my World Narrative - ie I act synrectically in order to create a coherent whole. In my experience, this sequence of actions is very common with other people and certainly lies at the heart of Thelema. 93

    This seems to be HEAVILY taboo, but simultaneously the direction things are heading for almost everyone not just thelemites.
    Generally most traditions have a mystical line through perennialism that allows them all to have truths and falsehoods respective to themselves that are mostly cultural. There is a set of ideas that are absolute truth but it changes over time, and it being the age of information the only thing that should be okay is saying “find out for yourself, I won’t be your prophet or messiah; do that for yourself and yourself alone.”
    Good places to start though are Advaita Vedānta, Gnosticism, hermeticism, and probably just meditating yourself and trying to start your own individual mystical journey.
    A good fictional representation of experiencing divinity may be like is Truth from Fullmetal Alchemist : brotherhood

    Personally, I believe Perrenialism doesn't look deep enough into any religions. For example, Yggdrisil and Kabbalah are very different under the surface. Keter and Asgard/Vanaheim is completely unrelated, and especially Malkuth and Helheim link makes no sense at all

    • @kster809

      I actually think it's quite interesting to look into the source of these models, the experiences that produce them, and to draw parallels from that. If someone were to say that Yggdrasil and the Kabbalistic tree of life are the same because they are both trees with layered worlds that's way too surface level to have any meaning, but by looking into the esoteric qualities of each you can draw parallels between the two models of higher/lower worlds. Similar with the chakras and the tree of life, you can see parallels between the experiences that produce these models. This is coming as someone who's worked extensively with all three systems and has had these experiences.
