B. Smetana - Louisa's Polka, JB 1:1 (Řepková)

As the 16 year old Smetana was beginning to get interested in women, he composed a couple of early polkas, each with a dedication. This particular one is dedicated to his cousin Louisa, with whom he was platonically in love and whom he admired as a singer. While he had no formal training in composition at the time, he made no edits to the piece later in life (as he occasionally did with other stuff), was quite fond of it and played it frequently. It was later transcribed for an orchestra by Iša Krejčí.

Chopin at 16 years old wrote much weaker music (a dull rondo op 1 and a few mazurkas and polonaises without much interest and sonata op 4 at 18 years old is a large job lacking inspiration and rich only of void virtuoso passages).
Schubert hadn't produced anything for piano except few scholastic fugues/exercises and tiny munuets.
This is just to say that this delicious little polka deserves applauses for young Smetana. Not trivial at all to write anything already so crisp and without harmony mistakes at such young age and without a master's review (c'mon even Mozart's first attempts got a clear formal review of dad Leopold)

@@nickb220 I am not composing any music. You don't need to be a chef or a coach to judge the performance of Joan Roca or Mourinho, do you? You just need to be properly educated about the topics you're commenting. BTW you won't read any comment about theoretical philosophy from me, though.
