This is from Stevie Ray's brand new podcast Stand Up For Greatness - on this live episode Stevie was asked about what he thinks is the saddest day in wrestling history. Though, not as close as with his friend Bret Hart, Stevie Ray remembers the day Owen Hart tragically died. It was 1999 at an Over the Edge PPV when Owen Hart fell from the rafters and left the wrestling world a void that has never been filled.

Alot of wrestlers have died that I truly loved over the years but Owen Hart's tragic death was/is by far the saddest death ever in wrestling!! Unfortunately, tragedies rain upon the just as well as the unjust in this world!! All we can do is stay in continued prayer and try to push through the pain & grief

What a true statement. Owen Hart was one of the nicest and funniest guys in the wrestling business. I have never heard anyone say a bad word about him.

Love the show and thank you guys for what you do. Harlem Heat was the reason I watched tag team matches period. And it introduced me and opened my eyes up to many other and future great tag teams. So special thanks to Stevie and Booker for being a huge part of my childhood
to me its the saddest day in wrestling. i never will forget everything about that day. i cried for along time after it happening. he and nobody deserved that. i still have a hard time with it.

@@soniccrp417 my buddies and i drove to Kansas city and got tickets to that show. His fall happened about 250 ft from where we were in the house. Even over the sounds of the crowd you could hear that sound when it happened. I still think about that from time to time. I don't know i will ever forget it.

Austin talked about losing all respect for Owen after he didn't call, or enquire if he was okay after damned near paralyzing him when he botched the Piledriver, He has since went on record stating they never patched things up, so the guy doesn't know what he is talking about saying "I can't find a single person that had anything bad about Owen Hart" He just didn't look hard enough. Austin hated Owen & rightly so, he cut his career short with that huge screw up.

I will never forget the times I was blessed with seeing Stevie Ray and Booker T perform at the Baltimore Arena as 🔥🔥HARLEM HEAT🔥🔥!! Me and my brother always pretended to be them and even made our own championship belts to imitate our favorite tag team!

Theres only a few guys in wrestling who no matter who is telling the story, no one has anything bad to say about them, and the stories are always consistent. The two who always come to mind for me are Undertaker and Owen Hart. Everyone says Owen was a nice, funny guy, and nobody talks shit on him.

Without a doubt it was Owen Hart's passing because it was so unnecessary and preventable. All for a very goofy stunt to mock Sting. That night at Over The Edge '99 and the next night on Raw were so sad. I was in high school at the time and the whole day I was in complete shock.

so sad I was twelve years old my grandma told me she read a wrester died. owen was more talented than alot of ppl will ever know. he was the @ost talented and gifted out of the harts. definstely the best athlete out of them and im a bret hart fan but just like xpac said owen was more talented but bret took it more seriously and to say owen was more talented than bret is saying alot cos bret was ultra talented one of the best at making everything look great but owen damn he never got that big push but he was even more talented imo than bret he could do everything bret could do but also crazy high flying stuff too and I think he was a better heel than bret cos he had a bit more charisma the jealous young black hart angle was great and when owen beat bret in that one match was awesome anyways both harts are legends in the ring but such a shame a family man and good guy like owen left so soon r.I.p owen hart
Well, Steve Austin and Bret agrees with him on this, wasn't exactly happy with Owen and the fact he never called him to see if he was okay or apologize for screwing up the Piledriver and putting him out of action. Other than Steve Austin on one thing I can't think of anybody else that has something bad to say about him.

I think Dan Severn and Steve Austin could say a bad thing about Owen Hart, and for the same identical reason.
Wrestling will never ever be the same as it used to be. Vince McMahon when he took over he not knowingly screwed himself and his product for the future when he took out all the territories that's screwed him for future Talent now the product sucks but in the eighties and nineties and early 2000s it was really good because a lot of those guys were brought up in the territories and that's why I was so good if they were smart they would start the territories back up and have local guys run up and have a history wrestling so it'd be just like the territories with different styles but I just don't think that's possible

I hate to say it....but Stone Cold wasn't a big fan of Owen Hart. Steve Austin is notoriously noncritical of other wrestlers, but he wasn't too thrilled with Owen after the pile drive incident.

I know another incident that was very unfortunate although some might disagree. Chris Benoit. He killed his wife and child. I think drugs and head injuries had a part to do with his actions.

It was believed that the footage was long lost but it was public at one point. As a fan, its not something you ever want to see more than once.
There is no footage. The cameras weren't rolling. They had cut to a promo setting up the match when it happened.
