    The construction project that a lot of people went to prison for was the massive infrastructure project preparing for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The projects were completed before the games but it tool it took some ass kicking. It was an expensive project because the Olympics was just part of the goal. The idea was to develop the infrastructure there in Sochi and Adler to support a massive influx of business and residents. The area has 400,000 people and the infrastructure was going to handle a city of 5 million. The new airport and train station, power, sewer, communications roads, gas, water. They are doubled in population by 2016 and 500 hotels have been built. It is a very nice area to live by the sea plus great skiing 30 minutes away. It has great weather.

    Yes, in the U.S., construction is very corrupt. Construction companies pay for politician's campaign funds, then have it returned with extra with inflated costs, paid by taxpayers. I imagine this is common in most nations.
    When you hear of "No bid contracts," that means they paid the politicians making the contract selection.

    • @TheKukulkan
      @TheKukulkan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also when you hear "Design Build" construction projects. It's a way to say "We will cut down on these excessive delays" when they mean "We wont tell anyone how much is needed to build or what we are actually building and if there is delays we can blame the unforeseen additional work that was needed to build." The project can only be won by the largest and most connected construction companies and are always one of the lowest three bidders. These companies always low ball the estimate knowing they will be able to add costs of construction whenever they see fit. I love my field but I also know the dark side of it.

    Corruption is the result of having big governing bodies because no one will be held accountable. Remember ATM machines were going to cut down cost because it meant less tellers, but instead they charged customer fees even though they saved millions on less workers wages, no healthcare, 401K, etc.? Utilities in major cities run monopolies, increase rates and lower quality service. Same goes with roads. They take years to build a road that should take 3 months. And they make it so cheap that it'll break down by the time its completed so they can continue building. Its never going to end.

    • @84Actionjack
      @84Actionjack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do ATM machines have to do with corruption? They are selling you a service of convenience; their actual effect on costs have nothing to do with you; costs savings measures are for the business. You don't want to pay ATM fees? Then don't use the machines!

    • @x.adam1
      @x.adam1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@84Actionjack that’s not the lies that we’re being sold back then. The took funding to end up screwing the tax payers. It was all lies. They never intended to bring the service which was supposed to be free. Then people like you who don’t know any better would then think they are paying for convenience as opposed to knowing that they were being screwed.

    • @84Actionjack
      @84Actionjack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ATMs do cut down costs; the businesses' costs. Labor is always the biggest cost for business and the only incentive for a business to pass on cost savings to consumers is competition. Let's not forget that a business, any business, exist to feed its owners, not its customers (yes McDonald's too). Just like we laborers who go to work for a business, we do so to feed our own. We can only rely on the self-interests of others to serve our needs or desires. We cannot rely on their honor or magnanimity. Self-interest is not a design flaw and should be harnessed NOT cursed!

I do however know how to research from independent sources and be able to find transcripts from the actual court cases to see the Republicans never brought forth any actual credible evidence. the vast majority of the time it was nonsensical gibberish in order to create a false appearance of some insanely vast corruption scheme that somehow generated 8 million votes. I am however not saying there’s not corruption in the government here. There definitely is and it’s done by both parties. At least here though I know that I can speak my mind without having to worry about whether or not my government will have me “disappear”. About state governments, it varies from state here. For instance where I lived my whole life, the state of Hawaii. It takes years to complete a civil project here, our local politicians are so “disconnected” from the people I call it “Crystal Place Politics”. It means that those elected people don’t want or care how their decisions affects the normal working people.

    Odd, I sent this video to several friends a few days ago. Well done and there are several others that are amusing. Obviously done for public consumption but at least they are done.
    Alas in, our area in particular corruption IS just as bad if not worse.
    Several years ago we had a real estate assessor scandal in NYC that undervalued for tax purposes buildings by close to a billion dollars. The fall guy was an 80 something clerk who made the changes while the head of the investigation was married to one of the perpetrators and warned them.
    No one went to jail AND the new fraudulent assessments were upheld by the Courts and the then Mayor.
    This is business as usual in NY and NJ.

    They sold apartments that "they Have not built yet"

    • @stanspb763
      @stanspb763 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes,, that was common to buy before construction based on plans for a serious discount. Before banks were loaning on construction in the 90s and early 2000, by essentially helping the developer finance the project. The first one I was in involved with was a girl I knew needed to find an apartment in St Petersburg but needed to sell her apartment in another city. I loaned her the money do buy the new apartment before the ground was even broken. It was a 23 story highrise that was not completed for 4 years but when it was done the prices of apartments were 2.5 times higher than she paid. It was a good deal and it helped get the project done, when 1/3 of the building was sold in advance. We checked the companies other projects and talked to apartment owners to see how they were treated. There were a number of construction companies which just abandoned projects but other contractors stepped in by assuming ownership of the development. The biggest risk was not having a new apartment for several years. Her 2 bedroom modern design apartment was worth a lot more than she paid since she was one of the first. As the construction got closer to completion the price for apartments increased. By 2006 or so more and more banks re-entered the consumer banking market. After the devaluation of 1998 people stopped using banks and most got out of retail banking. Banks gradually reentered the retail banking market in 2003-4 when some significant supreme court cases showed the new structure of the courts under Putin could be trusts, retail credit started to be available. Now it is easy to get a loan. Most people own an apartment or house free of any debt but loans are mostly used for covering the difference between an existing apartment and a large on. There really is no homelessness, the right to housing is a right in the constitution. The constitution in an interesting document that is very specific in rights and duties so it is unlike the US Constitution that can be interpreted many ways so can be ambiguous The Russian constitution is specific so little is left to debate. The rights specified are really rather liberal and assure a lot rights other countries do not have. The right to health care is assured and education for example. Although the country is only 30 years old it is really younger, since it did not really set priorities of the people until Putin became president. It would be impossible for any honest informed person to conclude he has not been a very positive influence on the development of Russia into a real democratic and open society. Speech for example is more open, than in western societies, and the services provided to citizens are a lot more widespread than in the US. Children and young families are particularly enabled in Russia. Kids grow up with so many more options and opportunities, while young families are helped in many ways. But you never hear of all the good about Russia, just total fabrications to get Americans to hate Russia. None of what they are told is true.

    Concerning building projects in America, it depends on the government it is for. Federal projects tend to cost much more than predicted but usually get done on time. State and Local governments vary greatly. In some States it will always take too long and cost too much. Other States work more efficiently.

    A contracting company which estimates a project cost of 1.2 billion and then increases it to 8 billion should be confiscated from the owners and resold at auction, and any salaries or profits collected by the former owners should be returned. If those profits are not returned, the former owners should have all future income confiscated until the debt is paid. We should increase the liability of the controlling shareholders of limited liability corporations until corporations stop seeing corruption and lawbreaking as manageable liabilities. Major financial wrongdoers should be sentenced to a lifetime of poverty, where all assets are forfeited, and any future income above the a bare subsistence level is taxed at 100%.

    Many Western commentators do not understand that democracy and corruption are two separate things, let me explain, I am Italian, and for everyone Italy is a democracy (quite ungovernable but that's another matter), but unfortunately I have to admit that it is a country with a strong problem of corruption, the same for many countries in Eastern Europe.
    Moreover, I find it bizarre that for example the West does not say anything about Malta, where the premier is accused of the death of a journalist, killed with a bomb on his car, or for example that even if the CIA has spoken of the guilt of the crown prince on the killing of a Saudi journalist in the Saudi embassy in Turkey, in the end economic / political and military relations will not change much between the US and Saudi Arabia, given its geopolitical weight in the region.
    I am not a fan of Putin, but the West does not criticize him for democracy, but for conflicting views on geopolitics, and many NGOs. they have a bizarre view of human rights, as in the Alexey Navalnyj case, where Amnesty international has decided that he is not a political prisoner. Attention, but not because he believes that what he says is false and that what the Russian government says is right, which would make sense, but because years ago he made a racist statement about an ethnic group living in Russia, or in any case about a population of a neighboring country of russia.
    Human rights are valid for everyone, it's not that if we don't like one because he made a bad statement years ago, then they no longer apply to him, then it also seems right that Putin takes it out on the NGOs. and declare their non-credibility.

      Does American democracy mean going to places you know nothing about and choosing leaders? The president of Russia is Putin, because after the hell of the 90's, Putin kept the country intact and did a lot of construction of the cities, paid off the debt of 200 billion and the country has a lot of reserves, he also prepared the country for the long term development of the future, not like your politicians who are not accountable to the people for short-term votes. Leave the President of Russia alone. Russia had Yeltsin in the '90s, you had Biden, and while Biden didn't destroy America as badly as Yeltsin did Russia, the fate is finally a little more fair

    Irina I really recommend that you watch this video... “The best speech about humanity - Carl Sagan”. channel is “The Pander”
    its about Carl Sagan making a speech from an image that was captured by the voyager space craft in 1990 he named it A Pale Blue Dot because all you see is a tiny dot of Earth. it was captured over two billion kilometres away from Earth. Carl Sagan was inspired to make the speech heard in the video when he saw the image that was returned by the Voyager space craft. He was an Astrophysicist among other titles he was also the director of the Hayden planetarium in New York, and was a brilliant man, who had such an ability to talk to people and be so calming and polite he didn’t make people feel small.
    Unfortunately he passed away from Cancer in 1996 I believe.

    The construction industry is one of the hardest industries. Many thing go wrong. It all starts from the tender to bidding process. Everyone is competing and cutting corners to win the bid. Ofcourse the cheapest always wins. Once the project gets awarded, then issue of payments, delays come into play. During this time price of materials can go up, unexpected engineering issues, and other surprises just attack you. For big construction projects, the possibilities of fatalities can be very real. This will delay the projects and bring extra expenses. Union and strikes are common in those western countries. The client of these projects can also change mind at any time, delay payments, want to add or remove parts, etc At the end of the project your margins will remain very tight and might be in loss. These delays are normal

    I live in California so everything is expensive by nature and it takes a long time to finish some construction areas but in general it’s good and fair and the contradiction to Mexico native land where basically corruption left and right and who ever is in charge of construction for the country makes millions last I heard some 5-8 billion dollars where loss in projects that never made it in the last administration also they had 1.5 billion just for election year basically buying for 1 dollar and reselling for 10 and those 9 dollars 💸 become pocket money for political purposes that’s why a lot of people want to work for the government in Mexico

    When these things happen here in the US it normally goes to congress whether the house or senate. I remember when the medical insurance companies were brought in front of the senate. These fine men were asked if people pay there premiums and there bills are up to date will you not drop them from your coverage They looked at our senators and said and stood up and began to walk out. So the insurance companies here will drop you for no reason. Ceos Vice presidents and so on of companies don't care about there customers normally it's all about the money to them how can they make money how can save a few bucks.

    In the USA most work is done by private corporations where way to many are funded or recieve government grants. Another way to aquire government projects is by submitting a bid contract. Too much corruption comes from politicians that give special privileges to certain corporations and companies while billions of dollars become mysteriously unaccounted for.
    We need better oversight of government spending and laws banning politicians from profiting from lobbyists and outside interests.
    See you tomorrow night 🌙 ❤✌
