Thank you for making this video. I have an old AB Chase upright piano that has been in my family for a long long time. My Grandmother acquired this piano by bartering eggs and fruits and milk from their farm for a long time to pay for this piano. It's been in the family ever since and when my grandfather passed away it was given to me because as a child I would go to their house so i could play it. Such good memories. It looks very similar to yours except maybe a little more scroll work in the wood. It seems to have like a rosewood or mahogany (deep redish) finish. After looking at videos it seems that it will need some felt replacements and bridal straps replaced. I had some of it replaced and tuned approx 40 years ago when grandmother gave it to me.

I love opening up old pianos and looking for treasures that have fallen into the cracks and crevices through the decades/centuries.

One time I received my grandfather's Victrola and I found a pair of ladies underpants inside the cabinet 😃

You're right about the vintage pianos. I just went to a piano studio to try some new grands. The salesman asked me what I thought of this one or that one. I told him, I couldn't tell any difference one from another, but they are all fine. They did look more or less fancy. I'm about to do a "dig" this week on my Conover grand, not sure what I'll find yet though.

Just inherited a Conover Cable upright and want to “ restore” it to its hundred year old plus grandeur and happened upon your interview/channel. Love you already. Love your heart for the art. The musak if you will!

I have an old 1910s AB Chase upright that needs a lot of cosmetic work. I can't afford to have it done but I'm pretty good at doing things myself so I'm gathering research and going to give it a try. One thing I don't care for is the big caster wheels. It's a good 4" off the ground. Yours is not the same as mine but very similar. I noticed your wheels are very low profile. Where do I find such wheels? Or is it even possible to not have wheels at all? I sure would appreciate a few tips. Also I'm trying to identify the woods used so I can do some repairs. It has beautiful veneer work but it's damaged. Anything you can direct me towards would be amazing!

Jon, you know what kind of piano was used in the Scott Joplin albums in 72,
played by Joshua Rifkin, sounds like a well tuned older upright ,, nice melodic tones and sound

I have a 1913 Wing and son and a couple of piano tuners I have called, Before they would even come look at it , When I said it was an upright they said throw it in the ditch and get you something newer. I has a few problems but It ain't going in the ditch and I will find someone to fix it!

I reconditioned an A B Chase identical to that one. Its one of the best sounding pianos I've ever played, even better than the Baldwin grand in my videos.

I just came upon this video of Jonathan Eder using an AB Chase piano. I have one-purchased in 1911 for $565. I live in MT, but, i need a new pedal part...the spring metal that attaches to the damper pedal and then to the wooden part is broken...Is there any way I connect to someone who can help me? Thank you

I might try contacting the Piano Technicians Guild www.ptg.org/home or a local piano store.

    Hi Jon,
I was always wondering what kind of Piano(maybe older Upright)
joshua rifkin used in the two nonsuch albums in the early 70's,
    playing the Scott Joplin pieces.
Jon,,, I alway's noticed that the tone's, and especially the lower Bass notes were really full and Melodic sounding.
I dont think it was a Grand type piano,
I swear it sound's like a well tuned upright type,

I have an old H.Kohl Hamburg piano that is rusted to the gut.
The wood looks good, but all the metal parts are rusted. Is there any possibility of getting it to play again at a reasonable price?
