  • I continue my review of online alternatives to my DIY Retirement Withdrawal Strategy spreadsheet. This week, I look at NewRetirement.com. And I'm impressed.
    I am not an affiliate or paid reviewer. So take this as entertaining ideas from one educated consumer to another. Always do your own due diligence, and seek out a professional if you need one.
    OOPS! The video will say this is Episode 110, but it is really Episode 111. I forgot to change the Keynote graphic! I'll update my image, but not the video!

    I found it interesting all the details that you need to take into account when planning retirement. I don't recall anybody I ever knew going through all that, but it makes sense.

    Great video, thorough without being overwhelming. It provided concrete examples of why New Retirement was worth the cost. Thank you.

    Very nice video. I am within six months of retirement and have used newretirement for just over a year. I really appreciate your calm straightforward explanation of the planner.

    Thanks for the video! I retired last week and I have been using NewRetirement for the last 6 months or so. I really like it. It gave me some peace of mind when it confirmed the results of the retirement plan generated by my TIAA advisor. I am looking forward to using it in 2024 for Roth conversions when I will start with no income as far as Covered California (ACA) and Medicare are concerned.

      Thanks for watching! Watch the minimum income level for ACA too to avoid being sent to Medicaid plans.

    Well done Jim! I've been waiting for you to come out with your take on it. I' have heard this planner mentioned and even partially shown on multiple retirement based channels which has peaked my interest. I have a feeling that once getting it, I'll be spending a lot of time setting it up and readjusting it! I'm surprised you still think it's worth doing the spread sheets. Or could it be that you just like spread sheets? Doesn't everybody? 🙂 I should have known that bridge was near S Jersey!

      Spreadsheets have the advantage of simple construction that I can understand. But I do think that for a fair price, NewRetirement lets you run the numbers in a well-constructed sandbox. I think you'll have fun with it.

    I love newretirement. I no longer feel like I need to pay a financial advisor yearly.

      Thanks for watching the video. I've not had a paid advisor throughout my 7+ years of retirement. But if you need an advice-only planner, you can run the ideas by one.

    Hi Jim! In your personal opinion, what is a "reasonable" and "comfortable" percentage of success for pessimistic assumptions with NewRetirement? I realize this is not an "end all/be all" number and i am sure it is different for everybody but just trying to gather a gauge on it as a whole. Thanks for a great video!

    • @IwasRetired
      @IwasRetired  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Pessimistic is 100% pessimistic so is you could get a comfortable rating there you are probably too conservative. I usually stick with the average framed by realistic numbers for the optimistic and pessimistic numbers. I would not bank on optimistic returns. Nor would I be scared by pessimism. Even the Great Depression ended!

      @@IwasRetired I paid $150 one time to a financial planner to lifetime access to it so long as he is in the business. It was a deal.

      @@IwasRetired nope. On my own to use the software. No support. But he has done plenty of videos of how to use it. He doesn't offer this deal anymore. He may have modified it to an ongoing fee. Not sure.

    Thanks, as an Engineer, I am amazed how difficult it is to find a comprehensive model for retirement. Can I retire or not?????????

      The answer is "Sure!" It depends on the choices you make!
