I know I should compliment the dancers, but I just love the pianist. I can imagine he gets so into it and completely zones out from the actual dancers. The dancers are absolutely wonderful too, but that goes without saying
Charlotte atkinson imagine in the performance where he gets very carried away and plays the wrong parts of the parts that are supposed to be played in the actual moment😂😂
i had a piano teacher who happened to be a ballet pianist and i had my lessons right after on the days she was hired to rehearse by a company. So i felt the exaustion on her body every time. But she loved that. It's an art. Congrats, ballet pianists, working as much as hard as the dancers themselves.
But honestly, as a pianist, I understand how annoying it is to be asked to constantly stop playing and pick it up some place hahaha especially if you're really feeling it
He is a wonderful pianist, but remember ge is a rehearsal pianist, and is quite used to stopping. Yes he is feeling the music, but he is also making the dancers feel the music. Until you have played for a ballet class or ballet rehearsal you will not understand,
Imao at the "You don't need to swear hahaha it won't help you in the story!". Overall love how everyone seems so relaxed, teamed up and enjoying the process.
Anthony is so funny. He understands how easily ballet can pitch right into unintendedly hilarious territory. (No one can touch his Carabosse in the 1994 video.)
The principals should watch the 1982 video of Dowell and Makarova in the final horrifying last realisation, and the final embrace before they plunge to their deaths into the lake. Not to copy them, but to get a sense of the mimetic timing and the dramatic sweep that is needed for that moment, and how it can be achieved.
I grew up watching a video of Swan Lake from 1987, with Anthony Dowell as the Prince and Natalia Makarova as Odette. It's funny to watch him as an older man taking rehearsal!
This is act IV, the last act, and the segment of dance shown is very near to the end of the ballet (act IV is when Siegfried and Odette reconcile and die, act 3 is when Odile tricks Siegfried at the ball, act II is when Siegfried and Odette meet and act I is basically Siegfried having his 21st birthday party).
This is sooo wonderful!! I love it!! I need to see Swan Lake Live!! OMG i love this video- the teacher (or whatever his title is) is very entertaining lol- and the dancers are so sweet!
I went to see Johan and Alina in R&J as well a couple of weeks ago; at the end of the show, Johan was in tears cos it was his last R&J performance at the Royal Opera House. And he was so upset and emotional that he and Alina didn't come down to the stage door; bless him. :(
When it was first composed in 1877, it was nothing like any other ballet music at the time and the ballerinas complained that it was impossible to dance to.
That’s right. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, and if one is going to copy someone, why not copy from the best? As you say, in time and with more experience, these performers will find their own way with the dance-mime.
I compared this to the Swan lake rehearsal of English National Ballet with Sir Derek Dean (it’s here on YT in the documentary „Agony and Ecstasy). It’s like day and night. Amazing dancers, yet Sir Derek is like „dreadful... absolutely dreadful... and poor me has to watch it... God almighty... I‘m not wasting my time with her...you‘re so unmusical...“ Rehearsing for hours on end with constant bullying of the principals. Sir Anthony is wise, funny, polite and brings it right to the point. Everyone seems to enjoy him- or herself, including Robert
mwouhahahah I thought you were referring to Marianela being lifted doing the split over Rothbart, but then I saw Rothbart's "airplane" and laughed so hard from your comment xD -- I love Marianela. With Natalia Osipova the two best ballerinas in my book!!

I could watch Marianela and Thiago over n over again..beautiful dancers xxx
Oh my life, that was stunning. This gave me shivers, and its only the rehearsal :o
Marianela's voice is so adorable I'd never heard her speak before
Sir Anthony Dowell, thank you for sharing this film of your perfect and beautiful thoughts to enhance the dancer's movements for a great performance.
Robert got very carried away!😂
Marianela Nunez is my absolute favourite ballerina, she's so perfect.
Marianela Nunez is not the Ballerina that is featured in this video you know
@@fatmahisham8613 you realise that she is right
@@Personalmeaccount Yes I know that but it may be a mock up of marianela Nunez you never know the Internet has tricked us Many times
But honestly, as a pianist, I understand how annoying it is to be asked to constantly stop playing and pick it up some place hahaha especially if you're really feeling it
I'm one too it is sooo annoying!
m same I just got back piano and I know wow it feels

@@annbrixey9651 Exactly. ! Thanks ! Very good point.
Robert was feeling it
poor robert
ikr
I have Swan Lake on DVD and I realized that it's so old that Sir Dowell is Sigfried in it! I was really surprised, he could dance really well!
Siegfried oops
he was the most celebrated english dancer of his generation
It must be so exhilarating to play this on piano, I can see why Robert gets so into it.
9 years too late but I just gotta say... Robert's rendition is honestly the BEST I can say I've ever heard
I live for these kind of rehearsals. I just love them. 😍😍😍😍 and Thiago and Marianela are just exquisite.
"For God's sake, get into the lake already." Hahaha
Robert was feeling it too much 😂❤
Imao at the "You don't need to swear hahaha it won't help you in the story!".
Overall love how everyone seems so relaxed, teamed up and enjoying the process.
ANTHONY DOWELL IS A GREAT COACH!
Off to see it next week , Sir Anthony Dowell is a legend !
THANK YOU ROBERT
Anthony is so funny. He understands how easily ballet can pitch right into unintendedly hilarious territory.
(No one can touch his Carabosse in the 1994 video.)
Such hard work and determination to perfect the dance is just absolutly beautiful!!!
What a beautiful couple 😃 great combo Brazilian and Argentine ballet dancers. Love Anthony

Marianela makes it pleasuring to watch!
Robert just wants to finish his piece
how can she be so pretty!!
MARIANELA NÚÑEZ WILL ALWAYS BE THE QUEEN❤️
Es realmente improsionante!!! Verte bailar Marianela "alegra el alma". Gracias por tu entrega, por tu talento!!!
this gave me goosebumps! imagine how powerful the actual performance must have been!!
Fabulous rehearsal!!! The staging and choreography are wonderful and the artists are solid and are having fun!!! Very enjoyable clip!!!
Gosh, I get ghoose bumps at watching this...
I love getting to see this sort of footage, out of costume etc. Thanks so much for uploading!
“This is the Judy Garland moment…” Hahaha! Classic!
Robert giving it his all every fucking time good on you Robert
Robert was turnt up... 😂😂😂😊🙈
Gosh, I hope these people thank God every day that they live such an artistic (and fun!) life. It must be nice and empowering.
How marianela says " yaaay " ahh so cute . She's an amazing dancer . Makes me proud to be A Latin Dancer !
I love this Art Form. My God.
Robert is in the zone… you go Robert
12.03 "yaaaay" oh she's so sweet i love her 😍💘
Robert, great performance! I hope you can continue without interruptions. hehe
The rehearsals look better than the real thing...certainly more interesting....I love watching them
He's very witty lol! And poor Robert can never finish the piece. But I have yet to find a better Swan Lake performance than Dowell and Makarova.
I find Christopher Saunders (Rothbart) extremely handsome! Elegant and I must say very dishy! :)
I think that ballet is not only dancing, but acting too.
It is a topsport, art, and acting
I love Rothbarts acting ❤️
When Robert begins playing the piece he wants to finish the whole piece without being interrupted
This part (7:00-7:20) ALWAYS makes me cry!
The dark haired man has perfect muscles
she's amazing
great direction
thanks for uploading!
Brasil representando....... simplesmente emocionante.
I'm new to ballet and this was breath taking!
Such a great coach. hurray!
Sir Dowell's humor :D
„For Gods sake, get into that lake“ 🤣🤣🤣

Christopher Saunders looks like a really lovely man

Marianela is so adorable
lovely absolutely lovely
HER LEGS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!
Nela is just perfection!
THANKS ROBERT!!
¡Tan guapos los dos, Marianela y Thiago! Hermosa pareja.
Oh dear, Swan lake sounds ghastly on a piano!
When it was first composed in 1877, it was nothing like any other ballet music at the time and the ballerinas complained that it was impossible to dance to.
I think you need to get your ears fixed
7:25 'For god's sake get into the lake' haha
'Not bad up to there... makes a change!' - And there was me thinking that it was all beautiful and perfect!
That’s right. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, and if one is going to copy someone, why not copy from the best? As you say, in time and with more experience, these performers will find their own way with the dance-mime.
Nice to see Chris being coached instead of doing the coaching 😀
It's him dancing that i love seeing more than seeing him coach other dancers :')
I compared this to the Swan lake rehearsal of English National Ballet with Sir Derek Dean (it’s here on YT in the documentary „Agony and Ecstasy). It’s like day and night. lol Poor Robert always getting carried away :D
What measure is Robert playing at 6:55? Is this a piano reduction or is he reading this from the full score?
mwouhahahah I thought you were referring to Marianela being lifted doing the split over Rothbart, but then I saw Rothbart's "airplane" and laughed so hard from your comment xD

I love Marianela. With Natalia Osipova the two best ballerinas in my book!!
I love ballet like this
Anthony Dowell. ❤
That teacher is so friendly
Wish there was sheet music for this!!!
There is!!
