- This is the DreamHack 2012 QuakeLive Grand-Final, held on the 18th of June 2012.
The final was played between two of the best quake players in recent time: Alexei "/M/ Cypher" Yanushevsky from Belarus and Shane "SK-rapha" Hendrixson from the USA.
Shoutcasting was done by Zoot (UK) and Calipt (GER).

Rapha is sooo fucking good at the game as a whole, amazing map control strengths, almost always in best position and rarely unsure where the opponent will be etc.. brilliant timing on rockets based off that. Also never seem to see him make bad decisions

they read the stacks so well, it enables aggression and safety in situations that most people don't recognize.
That 2nd match was incredible. These guys are godlike at this game.

Subtraction with such easy numbers comes pretty instant for me. However, it's easier to do while just watching the video, if i would have been playing at the same time it might get tricky.
oly thing i wish for was the powerup timers, is that not available the way the recorded the demo or just an aesthetic choice
Of course it's easy if you think about it. But playing you don't have time to think about it, it has to be instant.
why not just leave the original sound? and mute the wolfcam? I think it should be way better this way

Why is it that in your videos we see the players zooming in but other QL vids dont have that?
I like the zoom idea, but the texture is a little bit too much imo especially rocket smokes.

Always a pleasure to watch these two play. I know dreamhack has a schedule but it's a shame they couldn't have someone who knows something about quake there to ask rapha and cypher a few interesting questions at the end.

ps: textures pack is weird, everything felt too bright and shiny. Would be amazing to have it with vanilla textures and 4K 60 fps.

Well I used a third party program called WolfCam. Its made for Quake3 and QuakeLive movie makers with support for custom high rez textures, shaders etc..., and it also supports custom scripts. The rocket smoke for example is a script that only works with WolfCam. I think the latest version is WolfCam 9.11. You can not play online with these settings, only play back the demos.
Sadly it is too time consuming and I only wanted to focus on the final. But you can watch all original videos over at TwitchTV. I provided a link to the QL-Playlist from TwitchTV. Well I just noticed that the timer in the original video was counting up. Normally I would make it the same as in the original. In this case, I did a mistake :) Sorry
Dude, to be top 10 in the world in quake is an honorable achievement for anyone, and the fact that cypher is still making it to finals shows he is still top class. I know he used to win lots of tourney's but still a fantastic player. I don't know what you're whining about
sadly there are powerup timers in pov demos, only in server or spec demos. I wish there where an option, but I only had the wolfcam timers and they don't look very good.
Hmm I didn't knew I could change style and font of the clientitemtimer. Can I add the armor and MH icons instead of the little "stars"? Thanks for the heads up!
Great vid decebal as always! One question: sometimes i don't know if players turn around quickly or if you changed the player. You have the name down there, but I mean: could you maybe insert a little *bing* sound or something whenever you change in between the two? Thanks a lot

just for the record even if you would find a demo you need basic quake 3 arena (+ probably osp) to run these oldschool demos

Yes, i have. You can follow the items by subtracting seconds when the timer is counting down. This is not not rocket science :)
This needs 60 fps video, disorienting with the slideshow =/

You have to be instant for timing to be effective. 12 - 35 is hard to to instantly...

In all seriousness, I find it curious to see "older" games by rapha. He seems to play somewhat different. I cant say why though
+dbthanatos To me, rapha is one of the most adaptable players in quake live. At the start when rapha dominated, many said it was due to mappool so then faster maps were introduced. Rapha did drop off a bit but then regained form and again dominated though not as dominant but he and cypher monopolized the tournament scene. Rapha showed he can be just as good on a fast map like aerowalk, hektik and toxicity as he is on "+back" maps like lost world.

rapha was less aggressive i think, he has been able up his +forward game quite a bit since then.

Why so much WolfCam unnecessary effects, and what for have you added commentary? Takes a lot of work, while there are other uploads availible with casting; as for me, pure demos or rather having both PoVs on youtube for any grand finals would be so much more amazing.
