  • With the help of my mates from Dusk Overlanding, we recently built and installed a custom off-road cargo slide / drawer system for my Ford Ranger Thunder edition.
    The cargo slide is fitted with super heavy duty 1219mm Repon slides (from 4x4direct.co.za), and is designed to accommodate my Dometic CFX35 fridge/freezer, and a number of Front Runner Wolfpack Pro ammo boxes. We also fitted my National Luna DC25 Power Pack, wired into the vehicle alternator, with a custom solar panel input extension. We built two storage cubbies into the deadspace on either side of the cargo slide - including a channel to accommodate the poles for my Front Runner rooftop tent. We used marine plywood, custom cut to fit the load bay, and then covered it in automotive carpet to complete the look. The entire build took 3 days, and cost around R8,000, excluding the fridge and DC Power Pack.

    Great work. Taking inspiration for my own build in my Wildtrak 👍🏻

      Awesome! It’s a lot of fun customising to your needs rather than buying standard off-shelf solutions.

      @@CampSeekerAfrica been looking for off the shelf solutions but nothing suits my needs. Looking forward to getting stuck into it. Will be fitting a Redarc unit for an auxiliary battery at some point as well so will make a power distribution panel as well. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

      Off the shelf didn’t work for me either as I have a roller shutter on the back of the bakkie so I was limited by the height of my fridge, so the custom build was the best option.

      Space isn’t an issue for me as I’ve recently fitted an RSI Smartcap canopy. Great quality really pleased with it so far.

    Really nice, but just a question, your Securi-Lid type cover, how water “proof” is it, this is my concern with my setup I was looking at doing

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It is the factory fitted roller shutter. It is pretty water proof. I haven’t had any major issues with water getting in to be honest (or dust for that matter), and I have driven around and parked in some proper rain storms.

    Looks great! How did you attach the wood to the liner so that it doesn’t tilt up when you pull the drawers out all the way? Like how did you anchor it?

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. I actually didn’t anchor it into the loadbed. The weight is sufficient to hold it down, even with the slide extended - it doesn’t tilt up. I could have drilled into the bottom of the tub and anchored it that way, but I was loathe to do any drilling into the bodywork of the vehicle.

    Great build. Do you happen to have the specs for the wooden pieces?

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Vincent. We used 18mm plywood. Boards were 1200x2400mm. We used 4 boards for the build. The base was made from 2 of the boards. The side pieces came out of 1 board, and the drawer slide came out of the last board. The rest of the measurements were all custom to fit the shape of the load bed.

    Amazing build?? Don’t suppose you have the dimensions of your build? been looking for a sliding draw system, now I’m tempted to do it myself after watching this!!

    • @CampSeekerAfrica
      @CampSeekerAfrica  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry Andrew. We never wrote down the dimensions. This was our first build and because of the plastic moulded bin liner in my Ranger, we had to a lot of trimming and shaving here and there to make it fit snugly. This one was a lot of trial and error.
