For me, It’s definitely one of the greatest bass lines. There were so many in the 70’s & 80’s soul, funk, and R&B music. There’s just something about a badass bass.
Hell yeah honey you KNOW IT! Crazy to think for me now that growing up as a bass player youngins thought the lead singer was the most important! Turns out the RHYTHM is the most important! Steve Washington, who played the original bassline and guitar solo, is a multi-instrumentalist, who was and still is in my opinion, a genius! And the guitarist on this video sounds a lot like Mark "Drac" Hicks, who was my all-time favorite guitarist! 11-21-24.

Also on the follow up lp, "A Little Love" it says Steve also played guitar solo on "Make Up Your Mind"(the hit single), in addition to playing rhythm guitar, bass(along with Ray Jackson), drums and keyboards-he was, truly, a gifted multi-instrumentalist and composer and in my personal opinion, a real genius! P.S.: I worked with Steve in around early 1990, and so I know personally how gifted and talented he really was-haven't seen or heard from him in decades, but he is the real deal! 12-22-24.
Soooo many killer bass musicians! Ready Freddie Washington, Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Tres Gilbert (Brick), Oscar Alston (Rick James/Stone City Band). So many more!
I liked Oscar Alston's style, I thought he was a great bassist with a great feel for playing rock or rock-funk basslines like he did and I think he was perfect for Rick James sound! Also-Ray Ransom was Brick's bass player, when they were popular in the 70s, with hits like "Dazz" and "Ain't Gon' Hurt Nobody To Get On Down"-not Tres Gilbert, whom I'm not familiar with at all. Also, can't forget about Louis Johnson and Mark Adams-and you're right, there were many more, from back in the day! 12-23-24.
I have one in sunburst. They're called the Classic StingRay 5. I'm not a fan of the modern 5-string ones. I would definitely recommend this bass for 5-string players that don't want to demolish their banking accounts. It's a great modifying platform, as I made mine fretless. Music Man has been doing great overall with their Sterling products.
I love this track and it’s iconic BUT. Glide by Pleasure is 🔥! Also, Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen ft. Chuck Rainey on Bass. Almost anything from Slave with Mark Adams on bass. Don’t forget about Louis Johnson of The Brothers Johnson. And DAAAAMN! Just thought about James Jamerson and all of those old Motown tracks. He was on another level.✊🏾

Revisiting this post had me listening to some good stuff earlier. Thanks. ☺️
Man when I heard that song I learned that bass line in and out. 😊

Buddy Hankerson played the Bass Line on "Our You Single," or so I was led to believe.

LET THE FUNK REIGN FOREVER
Man that some serious azz funk.Loved the extended guitar solo. Everyone was great. Just shows thats all you need is a simple drum track.
I didn't really understand it until I tried to play it an get into the pocket it's actually a really dope groove 🔥💯🎸

This bass line changed my life and DNA forever. Now need infusions for life. 😁
The brothas are nice. Nice instruments too 🎸
Sounding real good fellas! I have that exact same bass, and for the price, I love it.
That's that Ray25. I have the Sunburst version with the rosewood fretboard. Love mine too.

It’s a great baseline, but I wouldn’t say it’s the MOST iconic in R&B
straight funk .I can dig it.
O.G. original groove
2nd funkiest bass line after Patrice Rushen-Forget me nots. Between Slave-Slide.😉👌🏾
Yes sir.
Glide By Pleasure!

Aurra’s; Make up your mind and Send your Love have more snap to them, than this Aurra joint.
Nice
Funkin hard
Mr Mark Adams...
Glide by Pleasure is more iconic than this one.
Ummm…ummmm…I beg to differ…🤓

Steve Washington was the original bass man behind this lethal groove!
No doubt babie

I think steve washington used a fender jazz bass ran through a guitar amp!! thats why the bass growls like that!! same thing for mark adams!!
Is this the Curtis Scott from Milwaukee?
This song is not "Are you single?" It's another one by Aurra
We gonna need the guitar player to learn the right chords and syncopation. Ears bro.
