She’s really neat but I could never shake off how much of an “example” character she was. like her motive, wish, and personality all felt lowkey basic for the sake of teaching madoka and the audience about the world rules. I prefer mami by a mile

In the scene of the opening one of the 2 Madoka has the long hair and the close eyes (we can’t see if they are glowing yellow) is possible that she is the god version of her
I think it's a bit limited to see Homura as a "wall" or "flat" character, when you can see over the course of the anime that she is actively repressing her abundant emotions to devote herself to her task, keep her soul gem from darkening, not reveal too much information (her main advantage over everyone) and to make sure Mami doesn't start Dexter-ing magical girls again. I see the more emotional and open Homura from later episodes and Rebellion when she is alone with Madoka as a more accurate portayal of how she would be with a partner. What would bump her down the list for me is it feels like she couldn't truly love anyone as much as Madoka. I think to rate her accurately, you'd have to say: * this ranking is if you ARE Madoka. I think Kyouko is a fabulous choice. Mami not so much. Just think about trying to go to sleep next to her when you know how crazy she can go in a world almost tailor-made to drive her insane. I'd never be able to trust her with my back, even though I can't turn into a witch, I'd never be able to take it easy around her despite the tea and cake. Sayaka had much more of an excuse, her soul gem was damn near black before she went crazy enough to hurt anyone. Homura, too, it took around 99 timelines of crying over dead Madokas, years of separation anxiety, turning into a demi-witch (a state that she maintained for a ridiculous amount of time before turning into a real witch), being told by Madoka "I'd never want to go far away and leave my friends" (which Homura took as her real feelings about becoming a god) and turning into a real witch to finally break and rebel against Madokami (and even then it was to restore Madoka's existence). I really respect the shit out of her strength. Also, I can't forgive Kyouske for being the oblivious harem protagonist. Anybody with a brain should have seen that Sayaka was into him. I blame him for Sayaka's fall more than Hitomi. He's trash tier for me. Earlier, you said Kyubey shouldn't have granted Madoka's wish, but I seriously doubt he had a choice. If he could have stopped it, he would have. Earlier in the anime, Kyubey said "suggesting wishes is against the rules," so apparently, Kyubeys have rules about how they are allowed to deal with humans. It makes sense, then, that they made the wish-granting mechanic something that Kyubeys can't refuse on the spot.
You wouldn't understand about her, before the event anime was started Mami and Kyoko are work together as a team, and after her father killed all her family except her, Kyoko ended up she threw her ideals as magical girl and all of her hope and she decided to left Mami alone. I don't think Homura is a flat character, she's actually an amazing character, I know her actions aren't easy to be justifiable. But sometimes it has the positive way, she willing to do everything on Madoka and her solitaire nature also relatable

Homura indeed did a selfish thing, but she did sacrifice her peace and happiness for it, and she allowed Madoka to finally have a normal life. Madokakami was also at risk of being undone by Kyubey before Homura's stops them, so it's a little more nuanced than simple good versus evil.
If you have time, give a chance to Madoka Magica the Different Story, it answers some interesting questions about Kyouko and Mami, as they are this spin-off protagonists, you would like it for sure.
Yeah for me homura is just the best character of all of them and she's pretty much the main character of the show haha. Also im so happy to see sayaka and kyoko in best man. It's one of my favorite animes (I'm a Fate fan in general), in the same tier as Madoka Magica for me. It is written by the same author as Madoka Magica, Gen Urobochi. It has like 25 episodes, great watch in my opinion.
