You can call me very impressed. You just cannot make that drum sound bad, it has a very very cool sound.Great drumming too, the flam tap taps you play in tuning 6 blew me away, how can you play them so fast???? Thanks, enjoyed this one a lot.
Hi Steve! Thank you! It's the most versatile snare I own! Crazy that I was able to pick it up for $40. As for the rudiments, I think it's the coffee!! Haha!! :)
Interesting, what's the serial number? I was just talking about this with a friend. Ludwig, back in the day, was pretty relaxed about the badges they put on their drums. Take the one in this video for example. The badge number is clearly from 1976 but the badge still has pointy edges. According to some the badge is supposed to have rounded edges. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination when it comes to Ludwig and identifying the year they were made. With that said I would love to look into finding out a bit more about your drum. :)
@@RecordingDrumsWithBrad I have 1851475 on mine and I would say that it is a pointy badge. I have a newer Ludwig Rocker 13" Piccolo and its badge edges are very round compared to the Acrolite. I'll take any info possible :) Thanks again! Also, do you think yours is a standard or "student" version? I have no clue what mine would be.
I have one of each (student & standard) from 1977/78, and the only differences I remember were the # of snare wires & the sheet music book that came with them.
Thank you! I have the bass drum (14x22) tuned medium high with both heads tuned to the same pitch. No muffling inside and the resonant side head has not been ported. I have one mic (AKG D112) about 4 inches away from the resonant side pointed at the center of the drum.
That's my personal favorite out of these tunings! The batter side is a Remo Coated Ambassador and the resonant side is a Remo Ambassador Clear Snare Side. I think the wires are the original wires (16 strand) that came with the snare drum way back when. I'll probably replace them soon. :)
I bought the Supralight. I'm not an expert tuner but I have a maple Ludwig accent snare that I just like better. It's weird how that works out some times.
Very cool! I had a Ludwig Accent kit a few years back. Actually it was back in 2008 or so. Time really seems to be getting faster these days. Haha! Anyway, I remember the snare being pretty awesome! Is one you have a 5x14?
Now that sounds better. Much more open tone with the original hoop that is very pleasing. Didn’t choke out at the high tuning. Lots of character at the low tuning and a nice smack at the midrange tuning. Very versatile drum and why lots of studio guys have them in their arsenal. Which tuning did you like?
I'm glad you suggested that I try it with a triple flange hoop! It really opened it up a lot! I can see using this snare on a lot of tracks if not all of them. :)
Great demo!! The acrolite definitely a must have snare drum.
Thank you! Now that I've played and recorded one I'm definitely a fan of this drum!
That snare sounds FANTASTIC
Good drummer, good gear, good sound
Thank you, Gabriel!!! :)

Really nice snare drum sound. The drummer looks like Mike Clark .
Thanks! Mike Clark is one of my favorite drummers! :)
@@RecordingDrumsWithBrad Mine too .
To be honest... i love them all! Thanks!
I'm with you! I could see them all being perfect for the right track. :)
not a single bad sounding tuning
This is one seriously versatile drum! Love it!
The superb playing definitely helps 👍
Hell yeah
Best $40 I've spent in a long time!
Tunning 2 !
That's my favorite one too!
My first drum was a Ludwig Acrolite.
My favorite snare however is an old nickel plated Ludwig Pioneer.
Nice!! Is it from the 1920's? Those snare drums are incredible!!
@@RecordingDrumsWithBrad I think it was from the 30's nickel over brass. I sold it a couple years ago since I don't play anymore.
Awesome demo
Thank you!! :)
all around Tunning number I like 5 and I love low turned snares, but also super high tuned as number 7 and 4.... sounds great for like funk.
I liked number 7 as well. My favorite was the second tuning but I could see number 4 being really good for a lot of tracks. :)
I love mine, I can't really find much info on it because the serial number doesn't match the lists I've found -- your mic'd setup sounds great!!!

yeah cool snare but how is that bass drum sounding like that? wicked sound!

@@RecordingDrumsWithBrad wow thanks for the setup!
1, 4 & 5. Though I think 1 loses some sensitivity on the ghost notes.
Agreed. Tuning 1 might be perfect for a dark acoustic track. :)
What mic are you using and pre amp?
On the snare I have the Snare Mic by Lauten Audio that is plugged into an Apollo x8p by Universal Audio. :)
Holy snare, the 2nd tuning is literally a shotgun, amazing sounding snare. Which heads + wires are you using?
