I have had chickens in the house for long periods of time for many reasons. I had diapers for most of them to make cleanup easy. Some were wonderful company and very entertaining. We had a black Silkie rooster who was injured by a hawk, who made a big deal about making us turn off the TV and going to bed at 8:00 pm. He roosted in a cage that stayed open, but would return again and again to the livingroom to stand between us and the TV where he rumbled and grumbled and gawked at the TV. He wanted it off. When we turned it off he fluffed up his feathers and shook himself and stomped off to his cage. Poor bird was stuck with people who didn't know when to shut everything off and go to bed! He was a really sweet bird! He also learned how to push thru our dog door. He would come walking in to the kitchen to see if I was generating any tasty food scraps. He got along with our dogs and cats so they didn't mind him lining up with them to wait their turn for treats. If he wasn't interested in what I was fixing he would wander outside again. His name was Richard and he knew his name.
That’s a funny story. I named my hen Miss Temporary because she’s only going to be inside until she heals up and the weather warms up. I made her a little hen house and she sleeps in the porch. She likes bread crumbs and she eats the kitty chow too. The other night, my cat, Gus was sleeping on my lap and she jumped up there too. I thought there was going to be a cat fight but thank goodness they both tolerated each other.
Happy to hear they are well. I've had this happen when one gets pecked too hard while eating. Something about that color red when they get a little scratched weirdly draws in the other chickens to peck at it. I'm not sure if they're trying to help, or to get a taste for blood tho ....
She's a good girl. Try giving her some treats and a nice nest to rest in a quiet room. I do it all the time for my chickens.
