My God what a stunning performance indeed. How much better can you get in music then a great Verdi aria with Fleming's flawless genius and a divine tenor as Joseph Calleja, whom i hardly knew uptill now. This is so beautiful, I do am so grateful to be part of this beautiful vocal spectacle, time after time.
Amazing performance by Renee Fleming. She sounds ill and dying and simultaneously like herself, with that voice one loves. Joseph Calleja's voice is beautiful and his performance here seems to me impeccable.
Cynthia, I can only agree. Nobody's upstaging anyone here, these two are both brilliant and use subtlety as well as effortless power and even deliver good acting in what seems to me the best production to date of this wonderful opera. I just wish I had seen it live.
Absolutely beautiful their voices blend perfectly, to my mind the very best I have ever heard this aria sung by anyone. Joseph Calleja is to my mind the finest tenor in the world today, and Renee Fleming has such a pure stunning quality to her voice.
To me, this has got to be one of the most beautiful songs and its accompanying music ever written and performed. Bravo! I had not ever heard or seen this wonderful performance of it before listening to it just now. Again, bravo!
I have seen this superb piece very many times. Each time I am amazed that their great acting has not negatively influenced their great singing. A fantastic piece ! Thank you for uploading !!
One of the very rare examples of great Verdi singing in our time. Most of today's opera singers are hyped up mediocre artists that would never have cut the ice 30/40 years ago.
Have the d v d some years ,Just got round to watching it ""It was absoloutly rivettingl, best ever for me ,performers & orchestra they really gave it everything out of 10 ,15 enjoy .... well done R.O H ...........
You may think this a strange comment, but no-one sings the single word “si” with such empathy and tenderness as Calleja. Listen to Pavarotti and many others and I think you’ll pick up on what I mean
@Nicholas Ennos ok, regarding the "super resonant singing stage", I'm aware of that. That's pretty much how opera houses are designed. It's not just the stage that's engineered to reflect sound, but the entire auditorium. The Met has the biggest auditorium out of all the opera houses, and it's also considered to have one of the best acoustics. I was only asking about ROH using microphones since Eman Camilleri made that comment about Calleja's voice being more beautiful without one.

Flemings facial expressions are odd--like she is about to burst out laughing. Not her role at all, maybe comedy better suits her? Callejo, weak of voice and good heavens, its called a diet!

They just uploaded the whole opera with them, it's magnificent!

I totally agree. Your thoughts on Joseph Calleja in particular are my own. Thank you.

V Falk not better than Kaufman
@@65NART Not better than Juan Diego Florez
Kaufmann??? He is Siegfried, dramatic heldentenor, not Alfredo, a lyric one!
65NART sorry don’t agree
@@alkiskarmpaliotis2776 for me florez is just as good as calleja in 1st
Two wonderful voices.just love this.it breaks my heart as well as being the greatest opera ever

Stunning performance by Fleming & Calleja. You must feel, hearing this, a lot of tender happiness and a state of mind full of joy.

Absolutely, just perfection.
Grandes performance vocale et d'actrice / Great vocal and actress performance
Mind boggling, beautiful. When the extremely difficult flows as if it is easy, it is great.
So privileged to have been there. The very finest perormance one could ever witness.
Love Joseph Calleja ^-^ Love his voice so much!!!!!!!!! Became a fan after watching Tosca at the MET ! Of course, Fleming is awesome too!!
HK Olivia Kim so agree just marvellous.
Absolutely wonderful love Renee Fleming.and only recently heard his great voice.lovely together
So, wonderful... Thanx for sharing. Opera is life - as it's best... J/Sweden
Crying.....this was so heartbreakingly beautiful.
Glorious! Calleja has such a rich velvety timbre
Calleja is very magnetic as Alfredo!! He "almost" steals the show from the diva....What discipline...what presence...
Calleja is my favorite tenor

Hermoso dúo.
Echt zeer mooi
SPLENDID!
Great opera
Is it only me who thinks that Calleja's voice is much more beautiful without a microphone?
Are they singing with a mike in this opera house? If so, shame on the ROH!

N.GHIS.

I fear that Last Traviata has gone out of vogue with the younger generation (my set) but I love it nonetheless! Xx
Don't be a pretentious twat who thinks they're special. La Traviata hasn't been "in vogue" for years and years and years.
+Phase One love this!
+sw34nj It's one of my favorites. Saw it in Vienna and absolutely blew me away.

me encantó
In één woord -fantastisch-
FANTASTISCH INDERDAAD !
G E W E L D I G ! !
RHAGOROL! 😊😊
Beautiful - and, for me, very difficult to watch as they act their parts so well. Now my eyes are leaking...
Voz y actuación superlativos
She's totally upstaging him during the opening measures, I can only assume deliberately.
My thoughts exactly!
What is that on her pillow?
Blood!
Why is she upstaging him in his gorgeous phrases?
Oh my God, dude. How did you find any negativity in this? You should be banned from opera houses, you prick.
Quite simply, she isn't. The understanding between these two throughout this production is something very special.
My thought exactly!

Sundby morsning
Ennél szebbet én még életemben nem...
Some of Fleming’s least “mannered” singing...and she didn’t drag the tempo!
I agree, Bruce.
Too much looking at the conductor...
