- Driver San Francisco review part 2 of 2. Classic Game Room reviews DRIVER SAN FRANCISCO for Xbox 360 (also for PS3, Nintendo Wii and PC). Published by Ubisoft, Driver San Francisco is one of the most entertaining and outrageously fun video games released in 2011. "Shift" into drivers and take control of their vehicles like it's the Matrix! Complete missions, win challenges and races and buy cars to use in specific challenge competitions. Driver San Francisco has awesome gameplay, a huge city to explore and an amazing collection of cars and trucks like the AMC Pacer, Delorean DMC-12, Pontiac Firebird, El Camino, Chevelle, Ford Mustang Mach-1, Dodge Challenger and a school bus!!

This one came out of nowhere. Before you know it I was running around unlocking every damn thing in the game. Awesome stuff.

Yeah, it's a painfully obvious gimmick to avoid programming running around like in GTA or SRthird, but the devs KNEW this and really made it work in their favor creating a fun and unique experience. Plus jumping from car to car in the middle of some insane stunt is hilarious to do then watch the mayhem unfold.
Playing this in 2022! Besides all the other good stuff he mentioned there are unlockable movie missions, which pay homage to famous film/TV car chases. French Connection, Bullit, Dukes of Hazzard, etc

I also remember the pedestrians in Driver 2 dodged just like they do in this game. I spent the first hours of Driver 2 trying to run over them. Perfect times.

I loved Driv3r, I play it every night, not because of what it is about or what kind of game it is ( I like driver 1 and san Francisco for that) but, because of the glitches......Flying humans!
Got this cheap on Steam, awesome game. Shift feature is actually very cool, dont like the ram feature though, much prefer to just boost into other cars.

They realy have come a long way since the original Driver...
Somebody else might have already asked this, but can the controller configuration be changed to the standard X=Accelerate & Square=Brake as opposed to the shoulder buttons?

if only real life traffic had the collection of cars this game has.

would the xbox 360 racing wheel work on this game? the shift feature seems difficult to pull off with a wheel..
IIRC, before the online matches start you can drive around.
I have the game and I love it
For races in GTA, police car is the best option! Hope its the same here.
I didn't have a PS1. I did, however, play the first one on PC, so close enough.
Of course, shift is a gimmick. However, it's very well implemented and cool. Even the mission stories, designed to highlight this gimmick, aren't as far fetched as some games I've played. They don't go overboard trying to convince you that the feature is cool. It's already cool.
You need to go 88 miles per hour to be able to get a pre-alpha version of the next Driver game.
The interior driving view looks exactly the same as it does in Midnight Club LA

this game is like the story sequel to Driv3r. If your a fan of driver games you'll know all the characters.
i remember playing battlefield 2 modern combat for 360 back in 05 and it had something like the shift feature, like shifting play of other troops in campaign, it was sick, but not like this man!
if only the level of trafic was like this real life

From what I've played it's fun but I can't tell if it will still be fun in a week or two, could be one of those games you don't go back to untill years later

@chaosblast100 Yes I know, but what I mean is, since I haven't played this game yet (it's been hired, but I'm still waiting for it to arrive) I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the configuration can be changed to the standard X=GO & Square=Brake? ... If there is no preset that has this particular config, then sadly I wont bother with the game at all, it's unnatural to me to have the shoulder buttons controlling the acceleration & braking, that's just wrong in every way in my opinion :|

I miss the on foot action from the previous Driver games in the series. Without it this game is more like Burnout and less like Driver, which might be good or bad depending on your point of view. ;)

I would have liked to explore the city of San Francisco as a male or female protagonist on foot and out of the vehicles, but that is not the style of gameplay the developers wanted; it's a shame and I have yet to play it because of this. Anyone recommend that I give it a go on my PS3?
