I'm a Cameroonian living in Nigeria and I have visited Abuja and Douala in person,
Douala is a beautiful city because it's a coastal city and its actually older than Abuja,
Abuja has wider roads,clean,not over populated like some parts of Douala I think in future let's say 30years from now,
We wouldn't be camparing Abuja with Douala because ajuba already has a plan,and they're not building anyhow buildings , Douala is full of old model houses . Abuja is like Abroad when u visit.
But there is more enjoyment in Douala.
Cameroon IS a great country Always underrated
I am not of both countries and notable after visiting 5 African countries including Cameroon and Nigeria what i noticed is other has her own advantages over the other

I must say Douala is quite developed for a city in a country that's often looked down upon by most other Africans. The city's connectivity to the rest of central Africa while being a port city really shows here. Although most of the high-rises developments are old, the CBD has a good vibe I think.
Abuja on the other hand is a totally different type of city in terms of the mission for development. Also Abuja benefits from access to a far larger national economy and oil wealth. Hence the city is impressively developed and modern for a place that is very young and actually really started to blossom with infrastructure from the early 2000s during Obasanjo's reign as president which saw a lot of the city's master plan come to life.
Abuja is more beautiful and upscale and more expensively built as well (road network, city zoning, green areas). It's not close at all. You just have to visit in person and see things for yourself.
Lagos would have been a suitable comparison to Douala but Lagos is far bigger and more developed and also much more beautiful in the same kinds of areas shown for Douala (CBD).
I would have picked Port Harcourt. But the city doesn't have a well defined CBD as Douala. As the high rise buildings in the city are spread out (from the old Port Harcourt where the government buildings are to Aba road/GRA where you have generally more recent developments to Trans Amadi where you have the (yet to be completed) rainbow town development). Although Port Harcourt makes up for this by having better roads and what is arguably the best city park in West Africa - Port Harcourt pleasure park.
I think Douala could be compared with Dakar or Brazzaville instead as they all have a lot in common (seaside cities with principal seaports apart from Brazzaville who's country's chief port City is Point Noire)
Can't compare Douala and Abuja,may be Lagos, Douala is biggest business city for all central Africa,with a good security system

I think you didn't match Douala with it corresponding city in Nigeria which is Lagos. Abuja should be compared with Yaoundé because they are all administrative centres and are bound to follow a certain pattern on like Lagos and Douala which are business centres.
Abuja is better experienced in person BUT what the Nigerian Federal govt. need to do is buy a leaf from a sister Nigerian city in Port Harcourt and make Abuja more green
Meaning - Planting more grasses, more assorted colorful flowers and more assorted trees {i.e. vine, palm, thuja, italian cypress, Ravenala etc etc }... will make Abuja one

Douala is actually better than I used to think from this video. Though it has an old vibe like the marina district of Lagos Island in Lagos.
Abuja on the other hand is much more modern and more beautiful in person than the video would suggest. Abuja has much nicer and bigger roads and bridges with dedicated green spaces and lots of upmarket neighbourhoods. It's just not comparable. Abuja may appear to be low density and that's because the city is a planned national capital. If you want to high density living, move to the suburbs of Abuja such as Mararaba and Mpape and you'd find more than enough high density housing.
I think within west Africa, only Lagos and Accra would really be suitable comparisons with Abuja.
Though Douala has more high rise buildings than Port Harcourt. I think Port Harcourt is also more developed especially with the road Network and the Port Harcourt pleasure park which I don't think Douala has an answer to. Plus Google satellite images of Port Harcourt also look much better than that of Douala.
But that's just my thoughts.

Les deux villes sont fascinantes. Mais en matière de classement, Douala vient en première position, selon moi, non pas pour l'étendu des espaces, des voies, mais pour la beauté des infrastructures, la position côtière qui lui confère une physiologie attrayante.
pas du tout d'accord, douala est l'une des rares villes cotière sinon la seule ville cotière du monde qui n'a pas su profiter de cet emplacement .Ailleurs ds le monde les villes cotieres ont mis en place des infrastructure le long des fleuve pour la detente et l'embelissement de la ville. Regardez Luanda, libreville, cotonou, malabo Lomé ,Dakar etc.... bref chez nous aucune plage crée ni amenagé, au contraire rien que des usines au bord de l'eau et là ou il n'y en a pas on a des bidonvilles (Mabanda, Bois des singes, youpwe etc...)

Nigeria is richer than Cameroon and in population. I believe that both cameroon and douala are rich countries. I said those things in my last comment because Nigeria does not have a colonial master like france who still hold firm grip on african countries like cameroon and more. By having these 14 african countries pay colonial taxes, controlling the countries currencies, their monetary tressuries and more. Preventing them from growing. Nigeria does not have to deal with those things. I believe that Nigeria should be far richer than it is right now. Those buildings you see in cameroon where mostly built many years ago by the first president. Cameroon has had the same ruler for over 30 years nearing 40 years. At the end of the day. I personally believe that Nigeria and Cameroon are both Beautiful. Both lagos and douala are very beautiful cities. I believe that we brothers and sisters in the continent of africa should be together. And encourage one another to grow, innovate, and invent ideas that will grow our continent. Easily Abuja for me, the best planned, cleanest and the first city in West Africa to build an LRT. Abuja is better experienced in person than from a drone; excellent roads, rail and no traffic.
