Revenge of the Cybermen is such an underrated story. It has flaws, but the new look Cybermen are great and the location filming in the caves is really good.

It's trash it makes no sense. Since when are Cybermen "total machine creatures"? Why don't the vogans use their gold to kill the cybermen ? How are the cybedmen not killed when they go to voga? Why are the cybermen south African?
This was the first episode of DRW I saw back in the late 70's early 80's in the bay area on KETH channel 54. Every Sunday night they showed scifi like The Outer Limits, DR Who and Blake's 7 it was glorious for an 8 year old.
I say having got and listened to the audio version of the original script, for this story it is billions of times better and the Cybermen are better portrayed and the story works better.
After watching the timeless children I needed a pallet cleanser so I went to my local cex store and bought a copy of this very episode for really really cheap and damn I miss classic who it was so much better
I remember being 'hide behind the sofa' scared by the cybermen as a young boy back in the early 60's. I can still recall the scene as a cyberman floated through space towards the slowly closing door of a space station, willing it to shut it time. I hope they do the same for the youngsters of today, but somehow I doubt it.
These Cybermen were way too human. I loved how the Cybermen had that steely robotic voice and it basically would put fear in you when you heard it. These Cybermen’s voices were too human and didn’t carry that same fear factor
Yeah I've never been a fan of the plastic cybermen. The originals from 10th planet were amazing and I really like the more metallic Troughton era ones too. Still, the plastic Cybermen had an iconic design that was refined later.
People like the later designs, where you can see the moving mouth etc. And I can see why, but I think these earlier cybermen are scarier because they’re so impassive.
1:47 This is what Ncuti Gatwa needs to maintain while playing the Doctor. Yes, the mercurial madcap nature he will definitely be able to maintain, but he needs this personality too. Cause I find it funny how the Doctor suddenly darts off into the corridor saying, "I smell a rat."
Is that hairbrush the same prop that was used by Roger Moore, as James Bond, in 'Live And Let Die', I wonder? I know the BBC used to rent and buy in props, so it could well be. In the movie, it contains a radio transmitter, that Bond uses to contact his friend, Quarrel Jr. (played by Roy Stewart, who played Toberman in 'Tomb Of The Cybermen'). When Quarrel appears, Bond quips: "This is my friend Quarrel - we share the same barber."
I’ve heard that it is. Allegedly Roger Moor himself gave it to someone in the BBC prop department on a visit to the BBC in 1973. I’m pretty sure it is the same prob, but can’t vouch for the Roger Moore rumour.
Written by my old friend Gerry Davies... who wasn't 100% happy with the edits made to his script. His original has been recorded by Big Finish - I must go give it a listen. I transcribed Gerry's original for DWB more than 20 years ago, it must be! Time - a funny business...
The Cybermen were credited to Bill Wotshisname at Trading Post... except they weren’t his work. The helmets [Invasion] and chest units [Moonbase] were made by Jack Lovell at Protoco Moulding - a man of ‘direct’ language. When he saw Bill get the credit Jack explained to him in no uncertain terms [lots of strong words] that he was owed money as it was basically his work that ended up on screen.

Isn't it. I absolutely loved (and still love) this idea. I'm sure it was intended originally as a cost-saving, but telling its story over thousands of years really had me hooked as a kid.
This was an excellent story. it gave a sense that something bigger was happening and that there was a larger back story. This story felt like a self-contained chapter of the bigger back story. I also loved the "new look" Cybermen and the helmet mounted weapons. I was annoyed when they went back to hand guns in later stories. even the special effects and music gave the feeling of deep space and that something enigmatic was happening. The story does have some silly moments but, for me, "new who" is actually worse and is the reason I stopped watching towards the end of Capaldi's time as the Doctor.
Cybermen must have eyes in the back of their head, cause they got the message, but sure weren't looking at him. Side-note: that's the gesture my buddy and I make when we've had enough of our wife's lip. (all in good fun tho)
really didn't like how the helmet just sits on the shoulders not tucked into the suit, looks so loose like it is just a helmet, they wobble quite a bit in this story
How pathetic is this Official Doctor Who TH-cam Channel? A new Doctor is announced and there's nothing mentioned here, yet they have time to post a short clip like this from an old episode that every fan surely has on DVD or streaming access already. Why bother? Give us some news or something new or dig into the BBC archives and give us something interesting! Doctor Who deserves better than this dull channel.
Revenge and Robot were poor bookends to an otherwise excellent first season for Tom Baker. Suggest you listen to Big Finish's audio Return Of The Cybermen, the original version of this story starring Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen's (R.I.P.) daughter. Made a better Cybermen story than this.
Ok, am I the only one who hates this story with a passion? 😂 I’m not usually that negative but I really did hate this story. The behind the scenes stuff it goo though I listened to Return of the Cybermen by Big Finish though and it was SO MUCH better If I consider Return canon instead, it bumps my Season 12 rating from a 6.8/10 to an 8.4/10 (I do love the rest of Season 12 though)
There are irritating things about this story. The Cybermen are too emotional (and rather inaudible); there are some rather startling reality issues (if the whole planet is made of gold, what to the Vogans eat? Why is there water? Why does the gravity at the middle of the planet appear to be exactly the same as it is just under the surface? among other issues). But it's a reasonably fun ride if you don't think about it.

In spite of this being the shortest lived Cyberman design, I always think of it as THE cyberman design
Tom Baker, as always, gave a stellar performance as The Doctor.
I just rewatched this recently for the first time in years, with a friend who'd never seen it. It was far better than I'd remembered!
