Im 42. First went to Poole in 1995, then 1996. I decided then that i wanted to live there. Property wasnt expensive either and cheaper than in the Midlands. Years later i got into a relationship with someone from another city and moved there had kids, relationship ended, couldnt move away from kids. Been many times from 2001 - 2022. Visited 7 times in 2020. Its changed so much and not as nice as i remember it to be.
Brilliant! I am from Somerset but, back then, i was a 20 year old with a 5 year old Fiesta XR2 , and, i would be down to Poole/Bournemouth quite often. Loved the area-and the girls! Happy days!
I was in Bournemouth in 91 as part of an RAF detachment for trade training. We spent a couple of months there. Sadly my bank had messed up my account so I was not paid my wages, and then I lost my RAF ID and my wallet. Thankfully some kind soul handed my wallet in to the Police, so I avoided a charge and a fine. We used to walk down the beach on a Friday and Saturday night to go to the clubs as was pound a pint in those days. We was lucky as we went in the Summer, to me it was a bus mans holiday as I grew up by the seaside, it was exciting to walk around Bournemouth as it was MASSIVE compared to where I grew up. When you first see how long the high street is, and what shops they had there, it was amazing. It was like being in a major city. I think back in those days it was still classed as a town?
Well Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole is now one council area-BCP; has been for a few years now; although it is still part of Dorset really as before. Makes sense really; when you look at maps, you can see that really it is one conurbation with the three towns as such too I guess. I know they were all separate before; but having one council I guess makes more sense all round. Thank you!
I noticed how much easier it was to drive back then, much easier to pull over and find a parking space. Now you have to think about what options there are to park before you set off!
You are so right there really-alas! It is odd somehow that this may be 30 years or so ago now, but driving seemed less complicated then than it does now-I wonder why? I guess because it is more busy now than then too-alas?
If you did the same journey through Poole today, 26 years later and there is very little that has changed. Very little. Could name the changes on one hand.
Love all these videos. Is that a Vauxhall Frontera, with Bull Bars? Would be great if you included the car that you are driving...you've had some interesting cars
Great videos brings back lots of memories for me . My parents and yours were great friends and I believe your father worked for my grandfather when he was a young man and I remember happy times as a child at family gatherings when your family would visit us.

Sadly the council now in their wisdom have decided to stop cars parking on the hill now in favour of it being a cycle lane, so people can't easily enjoy the views from those benches. At least not if you are disabled.

Thanks for sharing, sure brought back some fun memories of growing up in Poole, and swimming at the BIC at the weekends.

Lovley bit of history. Never take it down. 😬❤️
I used to work in Poole Park in 1988 and then again for Wreford's in 1999/2000....memories...not just good ones...but memories nonetheless.
I worked at the hospital in Canford Cliffs for many years. So many memories of driving the hospital mini bus on trips out.
Thank you for this of course-very nice views too. Well done!
those were the days, makes me feel old.
It's great to see how my home town looked 28 years ago!
Being able to drive through Poole park😮
You still can.
Thank you, as I remember the area when I lived there

Great video unfortunately crime and other events have really destroyed the family attraction of my home town which looks like a different place now.
Great video. Seeing the old cars is my fav
What a shame to see the old town now

all the old cars and poole power station vintage footage
My year of birth! So interesting to watch. What month did you film this in?
Near the beginning of the video the date comes on, it was 29th October 1992
Looks easyer to drive back then now it takes 20mins to get to the end off that road in sandbanks
Too many cars
What swimming pool place was that? The old dolphin?
That swimming pool was in the BIC, it had a wave machine, was very popular, don’t know why they closed it.
Thank yoi

The car we are driving is a Toyota Landcruiser
@@rodbean4226would love to know the car he/you was driving in the 1980 one
Memories
Never seen the side of white cliff that empty of cars parked
Yeah I mean it's Poole not much has changed at all apart from the cars
why does the 80s look better than the 90s? its only a space of ten years but things already look less lively!
