Pennies, for me, were always much more difficult to hit on than two cents, nickels and dimes (but dimes were hard too). Nickels were the most popular denomination (but most people at Pauma play pennies and that's why nickels and dimes are better ...because no one hardly ever plays those denominations).
Why didn't you play the last 77 credits? I have won a few jackpots with last pushes no matter how many credits I had left. It just happened this past March at Cahuilla. I was playing 80 nickels and then I got down to the end and had 73 nickels left. So I bet max credits (which were the last 73 credits I had left in the machine) and...JACKPOT! The machine didn't want 80 nickels but instead only 73 nickels. Maybe your machine would have hit on the last 77 credits - you never know unless you try it.
As I said before, your "favorite" numbers are all or nothing. The machine usually likes to have some options.
