Oh No! China Stole Data From OpenAI!

- OpenAI have said that DeepSeek has stolen data from them to train their R1 model.
Apparently the Chinese AI startup trained their model using ChatGPT to get the data for their model which is against OpenAI's Terms & Conditions.
I share my view on how sad it is for OpenAI that somebody came and stole their data to train their AI model on it.

At least DeepSeek took the information that we weren't compensated for and gave us a free service. OpenAI trying to make us pay for the model they built off of the work of the masses
always the same init - always off the back of labour
Yes for me this is the main point I mean the whole point of the Internet was always free information I know a lot of people never got this. The backdoor deals which followed the first suing is what really put me off . Another point is that Google didn't proved correct answers since years this had to do with them changing the search request to aim for products and also SEO manipulation from sites which had only bad content (or just paywall) . Yes most of them are gone now. Even without AGI AI will move things forwards for humanity e.g search for a new plastic which is harder then steel developed with AI (Not everything needs to be a language model)
Well said 😂
Valid point.

Very true
I must object, the British Museum stole nothing. Their patrons simply ‘borrowed’ artefacts without asking permission and ‘lent them’ to the BM with no intention of ever returning them. Quite frankly, nations should be grateful that we look after the historical items in such nice wooden display cases for everyone, especially the people of London, to enjoy. I hope that clarifies the issue.
I am very happy to see the open-source community is standing with DeepSeek. These big companies, like Microsoft and OpenAI, are using open-source to kill open-source by not giving any credits. Support open source and save open source.

Its the American way. it really is. Most big business in America.. have been stolen. now knowing USA. They will try get The world court to be on there side . America didnt comply with the world court a few years ago.. wonder how that will work.
Actually it's openai intentionally muddying the waters. Deepseek architecture is different from what we've seen before and is the actual breakthrough here. The most important thing is, the Deepseek model look nothing like a distilled OpenAI model.
The distillation is supposed to generate a model that could do SOME of the tasks with less resource and shorter time. But still, everything that it could do, the original model could also do.
Now, the Deepseek model could demonstrate its thinking process, telling user how they come up with the answer. OpenAI never done that in their model, the answers are like generated from black box. If OpenAI really believe Deepseek stole their model, why not show us the comparison of the models' thinking process.
They are desperately denying and slandering DeepSeek in order to maintain their $10 million annual salaries and stock options of incalculable value. --Answered by deekseek.
Thats the point. The thinking process which is given precisely and which make the user understand the process of the outcome is TOTALLY MISSING FORM open AI

Yeah, I get what you’re saying-it does seem a bit hypocritical if OpenAI complains about others doing the same thing they did. The reality is that AI companies are in a kind of “wild west” phase where everyone is trying to push the limits, but once they become leaders, they start wanting stricter rules to protect what they’ve built. It’s similar to how early tech companies relied on open internet access but later pushed for stricter copyright laws once they had their own content to protect.

OpenAI - steals your data to write their algorithms
Also OpenAI - gets mad at DeepSeek for stealing the data they stole first to write their own algorithms.
DS didnt steal data. they paid for it. in order to obtain millions of answers from ChatGPT (as they accused here), you have to buy tokens from OpenAI, so its been duly paid for.
its also noteworthy that under US law, only original expression can be copyrighted. so the answers that ChatGPT gave out are not copyrightable.
even if they are copyrightable, OpenAI needs to prove they are the original owner of the information or that they paid a license for it - which they did can not prove. just because ChatGPT might have said "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way" - that does not mean they can sue DS for copyright infringement, because ChatGPT does not have IP rights over the original song anyway.
And if the training process of Deepseek was through a paid API, I doubt that even was stealing.

The real kick in the teeth was when OpenAI went against their promise to remain a non-profit. So it's quite satisfying to see a trillion dollars wiped off their value and hopefully Open Source domination is here to stay.
If you go to chatgpt and ask for coding, they compile the answer from coding examples written by many coders everywhere. So the audacity of shameless giant techs is freaking disgraceful and this result is so deserve.
they are not even accusing DeepSeek of stealing data. they are accusing DeepSeek of violating the Term of Service, which claims that the answers produced by ChatGPT shall not be used for AI training. it should be made clear that ChatGPT's answers are not original expression. and they can not be copyrighted. only the source code of ChatGPT is subject to IP protection.
the most that OpenAI can do, for someone who violate term of service, is that OpenAI can terminate its service, which they most likely already have.
for OpenAI to sue for damage or claim IP violation would be absurd. let alone, OpenAI need to prove they have IP rights first - since OpenAI is accused of stealing works of many others.

@@cutbaitgofishing And the lemonade was made with lemons stolen in your neighbor's garden
@lesfreresdelaquote1176 good one.
It is illegal just when non-American do it
To say someone stealing the biggest thief and give back those things to the public for free is a top appraising, do they know that?
It's like you calling someone Robin Hood.😂
至少我看到了,并会持续的宣传它!😂
Everytime America thinks of China it cries like a babeh.. living without China is driving it crazey, today when China Al Passed on the street, America crybaby just fell to it's feet... And once again America just cried, cried cried, cried, cried...
its just begining , im sure more crying will come when china release new stuff. they need to get use to it.
It also appears that Deep seek bought and employed an Nvidia GPU to accomplish this nifty task. But that doesn't explain the drop in Nvidia. Should result in more sales for Nvidia. Am I missing something? Thanks!
Thanks for the support. I guess the market is unsure as to whether an infinite supply of ever more expensive GPUs is actually what will be needed in the future.
似乎?并没有 所以成本才很低
What did Suchar Balaji say about how OpenAI gathered its data? Too bad we can’t ask him anymore.
Why? Because Suchar Balaji has moved to other planet than the Earth?
Another DEI hire
@@etbuch4873 he was found dead in his home😢
"other planet".
Yes,heaven
I wanted to come and make the joke about how OpenAI stole all our data to start with but you all beat me to it 😂
A few short days ago DeepSeek plunged the planet into chaos. I was SMH. What a yuck it's been. Good for you DS, we love what you've wrought!
Thank you Sasha for speaking out. The robber who robbed a bank complained about a thief that steal a penny from his hard robbed bank money. The best part is the robber spent his ill gotten wealth on private jets and yacht and the thief gave it to the needy. Sinner complains about sin? Trump: Dig baby dig. Openai: Cry baby cry.
The fact that it would’ve cost them trillions to scrape other’s work and data might be why that person who quit OpenAI, who was going to come out about copyright issues, was assassinated
That would require a massive amount of tokens and cost a significant sum of money. Moreover, with the frequent and voluminous API calls, it's hard to believe that OpenAI hasn't noticed anything unusual.
Using openAI logic, google probably owns their search results 😂
and google never paid event a cents to user all rounds the worlds, they are thieving yet now blame deepseek stole they data
I saw it coming. When these big corps cannot compete, they will smear others on things they are doing themselves.
人无法想象出自己不能理解的事
in Spanish there's a saying: "Quien roba a un ladrón tiene cien años de perdón".
"He who steals from a thief, gets a hundred years reprieve".
I think it applies here.
Interesting that OpenAI isn't actually open source AI at all.
thats the irony of it all
In fact, OpenAi actually 'stole data', while Deepseek supposedly didn't. They might have used chatGPT to obtain 'generated content', which is not stolen data. I would think this to lead to a 'lighter model' which is different from the original. No 2 generated models are the same.
I would also think this approach would lead to less 'noise' in the model. The only problem with this approach is that you can't make sure that what you are retaining is not the noise, but the fact. So it feels like a 50/50 that the model actually is better than the original.
They just didn't steal they also unalived one of their engineers.
Whether they stole data or not, they gave one of the most valuable things to the world, not made it cry inside a shit data center.
And those data are stolen from people....... a thief is calling other thief a thief? 🤔
I personally experienced this in a microcosm of artists on the internet through the last year.
You/others spend years drawing stuff. Techbros come, scrape, start generating AI slop images. "Your art is in public domain, so I can use it."
Other techbros vultures come, start blatantly copying everything from them. And suddenly "YoU CaN't StEaL mY pRoMpTs, ThAtS tHeFt."
Bruh
Open Ai took public info and made it private. Mad at deep seek who made their private info public. Weird how that works.
When the boxer lost the fight, He accused his opponent stole his fighting skills. Such SOURGRAPE F
"it might be helpful for the boxer to work with a coach or sports psychologist to process the loss constructively." 😃😃
This is such an interesting story. The tech bros will be copyrighting their own arrogance next and complaining to their lawyers when they meet other like-minded individuals.
One interesting thing is that it destroys the incentive to put information on line. No one is going to come to your site so there is no reason to create it just so someone can steal it and not send them to your site
The irony is they call themselves Open A.I. 😂
Just show the empire is falling apart, the power they use to have it's slowly going away, now with the new head of office it's going go even faster.
As expected from a Hasan fan. Guess you'll enjoy the dictatorship once China takes control.
But on this topic I would have to give points to China for this move to democratize AI.

The steps to recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) vary from person to person, but generally include:
Shock and disbelief: Feeling numb or in shock immediately after the event
Emotional upheaval: Experiencing intense emotions like fear, sadness, and anger (are we stuck here still?)
Understanding and acceptance: With time and support, you can begin to understand and accept what happened
Healing: Coping with and managing symptoms through therapy, support groups, or other treatment methods
Growth and renewal: Experiencing personal growth and a sense of renewal
