17 years and still on the top of Korea music industry is really remarkable. Taeyeon is still her, not using others fames by collaborating but focusing on doing her music,keep challenging herself with diverse type of styles, makeup and music genres. Rather than showing everything all at once or seeking money and status, she show us different side of her slowly and naturally not only by words but actions. Taeyeon is a successful solo artist, while IU is not only a successful solo artist but also a successful actress. This makes IU more popular because her acting career contributes significantly to her music career. On the other hand, Taeyeon is very well-known for her singing as an idol and solo artist.
you can say Taeyeon is definitely a better and more skilled vocalist than IU. Iu is known for her unique vocal tone and she produces some of her songs.

IU is definitely more popular in general, there’s something people tend to bias towards if they are writing their own songs. But as a performer, I do think Taeyeon is way more flexible in expressing through various genres, which you could understand why so many senior or veteran singers would love to have Taeyeon working on songs together. Thanks to that, we got the legendary Time lapse, written for Taeyeon by Nell. Taeyeon will forever be relevant in the music scene because of her flexibility as a singer and performer.
Taeyeon is too good for this world. Everyone was so scared that Taeyeon might commit suicidal bc all her friends passed away from that.

On TY's left forearm below her elbow you will see a tattoo that say's 1969, I believe it is her father's birth year. He died pretty early, 50/51.
It was also so tough as a fan, I can't help but be worried of her after what happened to Jonghyun. She did made a promise though and said she will sing for a long time, and I held into that and she is keeping it.
I was also thankful she was casted in Amazing Saturday, she became happier. Happy Taeyeon, happy me. 😁

Taeyeon knows conversational english, she's been studying english even before she joined sm, however..she's not confident in speaking it. She only speaks english if she has to, for example: if she's in a Western country.

Taeyeon and IU are known to be basically on par with each other
maybe in popularity... but everyone will agree Taeyeon is indeed the better vocalist, IU as an actress too add to her fane but Taeyeon solely focus on singing. and Taeyeon is the OST Queen and she always wins Best Female Artist, IU cant even win against Taeyeon especially when Taeyeon is nominated as a best female artist. Even BoA cant win against Taeyeon.

in terms of popularity, IU takes the top spot but only because she's also an actress & she actively seeks out other popular idols (like BTS) to collab with her.

Talking about Taeyeon's genre prowess. Her 4th album coming out in August. We are all more cuirous to what genre she will do for a summer track. We know she can sing it, we know it will be amazing, but the genre has us on our edge of the seat
아이유, 태연 둘다 솔로 여자 가수로 인기는 비슷하긴 하지만.. 가수로 가창력으로 더 인정받는건 태연쪽인거 같아요. 걸그룹으로도 소녀시대는 국민걸그룹이었구 지금도 최근 걸그룹과 비교해도 전성기때 소녀시대만큼 인기가 압도적인 걸그룹은 없었기때문에 솔로로도 여자 아이돌중 1인자라고 생각함. 아이유는 예전에 전성기때는 한국에선 국민여동생이었고 그룹이 아닌 솔로가수로 성공한 드문 케이스였고 가수이자 연기자로 활동해서 둘다 활발하게 활동하는 대중적으로 인기있는 성공한 연예인 이미지.

This guide misses out on how much like Chuu she was at the start. All of SNSD were popular guests on TV, but Taeyeon is fun, playful, pretty, and very charming. Tons of her TV shots became memes like Sana's 'cheese kimbap' on the early internet.

I think Kara and SNSD were the most popular girl kpop group to transition into the Japanese market. I’m really sad there wasn’t more Japanese songs.

아 그리고 피부를 하얗게 만드는 표백 수술이나 시술, 주사로 하얗게 된다라는 소문이 많던데 사실이 아니야 화이트 태닝은 본래 피부가 햇빛에 타기 전의 피부색으로 만들어주는거지 원래 피부색보다 더 하얗게는 안돼 우유 주사나 마늘 주사는 비타민 주사랑 마찬가지고..
실제로 하얗게 되는 수술이 있으면 정말 피부로 차별받는, 피부가 계급인 나라에 수출해서 부자가 되었겠지?

돈에관한 정산 방식은 지금은 많이 바뀌었습니다. 요즘은 연습생들이 그만둔다고 하더라도 회사의 투자금이 연습생들에게 빚이 되지는 않습니다. 그건 회사에서 연습생에게 투자 한것으로 인식되어 온전히 회사의 부담이 됩니다. 다만 연습생들이 데뷔를 하게되면 그때부터 회사에서 투자한 투자금액을 회수하게 됩니다. 일정금액 수준으로 투자금을 회수하게 되면 가수들에게 정산이 시작되고 뉴진스 같은 경우는 데뷔후 첯 활동 끝내자마자 투자금을 회수하고 멤버들에게 정산을 시작했습니다.

I think IU is more popular. She's also an actress and did collabs with BTS members.
Many of the international fans who went to her fansigns said Taeyeon is fluent in english. She lived with Tiffany for years so that expected but she's quite shy. And her Japanese is basic but she can probably understand a lot of it.
Also about contracts, I saw a list years ago about profit distribution. I don't remember other companies but for SM ent. it was %5 for artists' physical album sales.
No, that's not true at all.
As opposed to a lot of agencies, artists under SM start getting paid right away.
SM gets 90% of all incoming revenue amd the artist gets 10% until their trainee debt is earned back.
After that, it goes to a much more equitable 60% to SM, 40% to the artist.
The other thing that SM does is give their artists stock options.
SM doesn't have very many artists that haven't retired wealthy.
Asian pops before 2009 were literally non-existent in the Western market. So the Jpop graph here was shown in parallel only to give the sense of how small or negligible Kpop was before 2009. It is a shame that the graph did not show the period from 2009 to 2024 , failing to show the ridiculously different reality, giving only a serious distortions ...

I love the How Girls Generation changed Kpop vid! It’s SO good. All of them are so popular in their own areas too. It’s amazing how everyone in a girl group of so many members are still incredibly popular to this day!
Who really paved the way ? It has actually not much to do with the excellence of the K-culture, but largely to do with the pandemic and South Korea's brilliant control and management of it. Through the daily global news, every nook and cranny of the globe were forced to know about South Korea and its everything. Then they naturally caught what were and continued to come up on TH-cam, Netflix, etc. stuck indoors.

Taeyeon is probably still the most successful singer to have come from a group not just within girls' generation. Lots of kids these days don't even know she's from a legendary girl group and jokingly know her as the nolto girl/amazing saturday girl. 😂😂
And yes, IU is definitely much more popular. I think what delineates both of them is really the fact that IU started out as a soloist from the start but for a soloist who came from a group first, Taeyeon is probably still the most successful one.
On another note about popularity, she also wasn't the most popular member in snsd. It's actually Yoona but she's a close second.
What's so unique about her is people know her for her amazing voice, her actual skill instead of visuals like most popular idols even if arguably, she's a visual as well.

i disagree with her being a close 2nd most popular in snsd, only in denial sones & clueless kpop stans say that . She has the most number of fans in daum fancafe & biggest dcinside forum for a female idol. And up until this year, she's still able to reach Top 1 in female idol Brand Reputation and Top 2 in Idol Brand Rep, she's literally just right next to Cha Eun Woo. She's the only snsd member who is consistently able to rank inside Top 10 & Top 5 in Brand Rep even tho we are now at 4th generation of kpop
people have an impression that Yoona is more popular only because she's the center, the visual of the group. Plus she's also an actress, other people see her in a different perspective.
It’s 2024 now but some ppl still think Yoona is more popular. Taeyeon before always got the most fans among Snsd’s members. And now she is always top 1,2 in Reputation brand while Yoona is out of top 30. top 3 the most search female singer top 1 the most search idol in 5 years, she is also an idea idol for most girl group and boy group. Yoona is popular but compare to Taeyeon now, Taeyeon is another level.

I want to explain why in Korea, whiter skin is a symbol of beauty. It is simply because people in the countryside working all day under the sun, get tan, while the "rich", the well-off, keep their skin whiter because they are not exposed to the sun. It is a fairly old idea that they have in this culture and I hope one day they will change....
IU is definitely way more popular and big than Taeyeon especially in Korea. Taeyeon is definitely vocally way more talented than IU and a very talented performer. But IU is a songwriter and conposer. She writes and composes most of her songs. And she was one of the first female idols who started writing her own songs. On top of that IU is also a very talented actress and has huge acting career. Her drama My Mister is still one of my top 3 favourite kdramas of all time. Both have different skill sets at which they excel. Tough as a artist I love Taeyeon more because her music is more of my alley. I truly admire both of them.

Also Gangnam style was a global hit but for the majority of people, they did not even know it was K-pop, the song was just considered a meme and it didn’t really give K-pop more exposure. Even Psy said Bts paved the way.
