    I'm pleased that unlike on a modern Mini, the turn signals don't include an arrow pointing the way you're NOT turning.

    • @motorv8N
      @motorv8N 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’ve seen this comment before about the Mini and it confuses me. My 2021 Cooper SE has the split Union Jack pattern within the tail lights - but they are not turn signals (otherwise, I can definitely see how they would point the opposite way to the turn). When the turn signals are activated there is a separate horizontal bar that bisects the light that flashes. Now mine is a Canadian spec car - perhaps these work differently than UK lights or other markets?

    • @europa504
      @europa504 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The lights on the mini are fine unless you live in a country that uses red instead of amber for turn signals.@@motorv8N

    • @kantoendrato
      @kantoendrato 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@motorv8N Part of the problem is that the US market idiotically allows red taillights to be used as signals, unlike the rest of the world, so they probably just figured to save a few bucks and blink the whole wrong-pointing arrow.

    • @motorv8N
      @motorv8N 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kantoendrato - interesting - makes sense. The market differences don’t end there. For instance, my MINI also has fog lights in the lower rear bumper, complete with bulbs and wiring in place however, there is no switch to turn them on. Perhaps driving around with brake light-bright red in your bumper is not allowed in Canada although I see them activated on the highway on Audi and Mercs here. I’ve read you can get into the vehicle management, software with a BMW aftermarket app and activate those lights in a number of ways - as running lights, as brake lights, and if you add the switch to the dashboard blank, the aforementioned fog lights. Someone figured it must just be cheaper to install all the hardware on the line, then separate different country spec cars with just different software configurations. Don’t see how that’s true but there you go.

    Sports cars have traditionally been lightweight for many reasons.
    Limited market and heavy batteries mean manufacturers haven’t risked making ev sports cars, 1850kgs isn’t lightweight, technology will improve but unless as a modern car with safety kit it’s near or under 1200kgs it’s missing the true nimbleness and lightweight sports car feel.

      Nimbleness is more a function of power curves and moment of inertia; with the instant-on torque of an electric motor and the low center of gravity of the battery pack, an EV could be just as nimble any sports car of old. There is a single characteristic shared by all true sports cars since about 2000, which they do not share with the majority of other cars. Lamborghini, Ferrari, most Königseggs, Porsche 911, Pagani, Audi S8, BMW M, Mazda MX5, new Tesla Roadster (not the original Roadster and not the Model S Plaid), and others: the brake calipers are as close as practicable to the car's centre of mass. That is, the front brake calipers are to the rear of the disk and the rear brake calipers are to the front of the disk. Very few true sports cars do not have this brake caliper mounting pattern. Of course there is a random smattering of ordinary cars which do this too (eg: Chrysler 300C, pre-2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee). Note that MG engineers decided to mount their brake calipers where they should be on a sports car. If they did this right, they probably did a few other things right too.

      And it's been standard on airplanes for a very good reason: weight reduction and complexity of all the cabling and linkages that would have to be used on larger and larger airplanes.
      I'm unaware of any racing competition that uses steering-by-wire, which is the drive-by-wire component discussed here!
      There's nothing complex about having a steering shaft connecting the steering wheel to the steering arms and to the wheels, and steer-by-wire attempts to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, but that comes with its own issues and future problems...

    It's a lovely looking car, if they could do a pared back trophy version for around £45, pretty sure that would sell like hotcakes. Just a little correction, the TF is 590mm shorter. (3943mm against 4533mm).

    7:27 What charging standard is that using? It actually looks a bit like CHAdeMO on the right and J1772 on the left, but having CHAdeMO makes no sense since that standard is falling by the wayside. Some China-only standard perhaps?

    The old MGs (B, BGt, Midget...) were basic and affordable. This rich-man's car is about as far from the old cars as a Lear Jet. Also, how does it actually drive at the limit? That's what a sports car is for. Can you slide it through a corner? four wheel drift? hand brake turn? Handling isn't measured by tooling around town and goosing the throttle now and then. How about giving one of these to Richard Hammons and seeing if he can keep from rolling it down a ravine? :P

    It’s a from the ground up new car so how do they manage to mess up the dashboard, especially the speedometer?
    It’s definitely arrows on the rear and not mini style, union flags.
    It’s one reason why I would not consider a mini; those taillights.

    Subjective I suppose - but the MG TF referenced looks appeared absymal to me. This looks neat though. Looks the new Tesla roadster that we are still waiting on. Price will be interesting . The suggested hint on price Chinese always appears to be well below what it ultimately appears as. I saw the BYD seal ended up being same price as the Tesla model 3 long range dual motor version and way above the entry model 3.

      The TF is considered to be a rather good looking car even by people who didn't like the car otherwise. I believe it was redesigned by Peter Stevens to look more modern compared to the MG F as we transitioned to the 2000s. What was it you didn't like?

    I wonder if Porsche fans are upset? I mean, it seems like it could be a nightmare for som models of Mazda, Honda, Hyundai and similar, it doesn't strike me as a cheaper alternative to a Porsche exactly.
    Favorite moment, "Brembo brakes all around, obviously very important", with a voice that implies he has no clue what that means. Second favorite, the tires it comes with presented an important reason to why it's supposedly possibly the greatest car ever made.
    Really funny episode, and the car might be well worth the money, for anyone looking for a better alternative to a Miata.
    Possibly the best Elliot episode, so far.
    I wouldn't be surprised if Robert could get that range out of it, without trying.

    I was interested in this car when they announced it, but I’ve just gone back to ICE following a 30k mile stint with an M3LR, and I’m sooo glad to be back. Best two days of EV ownership? Same as a boat. Depreciation and degradation after 30k miles, 45% and 12% respectively. You can probably live with the former, but the latter is a deal breaker and also muddies the used market.
