It moves me to tears. Seeing him grey-haired at such a young age and knowing how much each performance must have cost him at this point, how much courage that man had to go out on the stage every night... But still you can hear the joy and pleasure that singing brought him (and everyone who listened back then and today and forever). I love this wonderful artist and it pains me so much to know how miserable he must have been. I wish there was a way for us to let him know that it's been half a century since his death and we still haven't forgotten him - and never will.
Thank you for your beautiful thoughts and words ~ I am not a religious person, however I beleive his energy and spirit is still around, and he can feel all the admiration and love we have for him. My best regards, Ingrid

Bastianini was from Siena but he could also sing in Napolitan dialect petfectly which was not the case of other nothern Italians like Betgonzi or even Pavarotti. Singing in Napolitano requires a great soul and interpretatve skills. Ettore, of course, had all this. His songs are alla Bastianini, with great taste and nobilty. Thank you my dear friends to share with you such a good moment.
No tengo palabras para expresar tanto sentimiento , grandisimo en todos los órdenes el profesional y el humano hasta el final......Gracias por haber existido añorado Bastianini.
Many people seem to get one point wrong: "Torna a Surriento", "O Sole Mio", "Core n'Grato", etc, ARE NOT ARIAS, they're popular songs, thus they can be sung in literally any key.
The voice has an unforced massiveness in addition to an real, unfaked, down-to-earth manliness that connects strongly with men, and, maybe with women too! However, his voice production and timbre can only be described as "a huge fortress of Black Carrara Marble! Tenors and Sopranos get all the attention and "hoop-la", while other voices are unjustly slighted, with Artistic/Humanistic damage to Humanity! Above all, Ettore Bastianini's voice is---- imposing---- as is his Italianly sensuous, Bel Canto delivery of those moving natural melodies. Not just his Neapolitan songs, but also, all his operatic Repertory gives me, and everone else: GREAT PLEASURE!!!! Thank You, You Tube and all involved in the production of the Recording!
My sincere thanks for your explicit and interesting analysis, and your beautiful statement regarding this extraordinary artist ,who was loved and admired around the world, and has earned himself an honorable place in Opera´s History. Honoring and keeping alive his memory is , besides a personal pleasure and need, a small attempt to “repay “him for all the unforgettable and beautiful moments he has given us with his Voice and presence . Debo confesar ,que no conosco mucho de este baritono Español pero es cierto, su bella y potente voz tenia un gran parecido a la de Ettore; lamentablemente "compartieron" tambien un destino muy tragico. Gracias por comentar .
The score I'm learning it from is in C Major. Not sure what key composer Ernesto De Curtis originally wrote it in. But I must say I'm glad it's a canzone rather than an aria specifically intended for tenors. Low and middle voices (I'm a high baritone -- amateur) so often get short shrift when it comes to the most memorable melodies.
This in NOT italian! why do italians insist on singing neapolitan songs as if they were written in italian instead of studying the correct neapolitan pronunciation?

Español ? Ettore Bastianini era italiano, di Siena e la pantera che si vede alll'inizio è il simbolo della contrada, del rione dove era nato e vissuto
