Hi Dani! I’m an OT hand therapist. You can have early inflammatory arthritic changes that cause swelling and pain. I experience this too every now and it comes and goes. Osteoarthritis is the “wear and tear” type of arthritis that won’t really show up on a blood test and early signs won’t show on an X-ray. Glad all your rheumatic tests were negative. My best advice is to use gentle moist heat for 10 mins or even paraffin wax for pain relief. Anti inflammatory meds, etc. if you notice any development of nodules in your palm or the base of your fingers, locking/catching of your fingers when you move, that’s something different and you should see an orthopedic hand doc. If you need recs in the DFW area let me know! I live here too. Hope your pain gets better!

Same thing with my fingers. It’s arthritis. That’s how it starts. Years ago I could not get my ring past my knuckle. Then my fingers started feeling stiff and I’ve noticed that they are shrinking cuz I used to have long fingers. Climate plays a big factor. In the winter when it’s cold it’s the worst and summer is way better.
