Why is it so satisfying to watch people decluttering? It’s soothing, I think. Decluttering and moving things around, reorganizing etc., changes the energy of a space. I don’t even care if that sounds woo woo. It’s just true lol. It’s like the energy gets stuck and stale and moving things around unblocks it and I get instantly infused with fresh energy and creativity. Have to say (well, I don’t *have* to, I just want to …. 😆) as a Canadian just going into winter, when you rearranged your winter coats/jackets I did a double take and rewound because I was like, “where are they?” Hahaha. We have a closet the size of your entire wardrobe just for our gear. Snowsuits, heavy duty snow boots, cold weather rain gear, warmer weather rain gear, a variety of winter coats (from full on parkas to dressier coats to work/active in various lengths for various activities/needs), the in between “what the hell is it even doing outside today?” coats/jackets …… all the various versions of hats, gloves, mitts, scarves ….. the idea of being able to give a few square inches of space for “winter wear” still has me giggling. A big job, to be sure ❤
you're SO right!! it really does feel like a new energy. and omg, australians think it's cold here in melbourne but NOTHING like you hahahaha that is crazy
Casually flashing your half marathon medals and the fact that Ethan does Olympic rings! You two be doing it all!! Hope you're having a relaxing Sunday and soaking in clean feels of your space 🤍
I’m constantly singing to myself “don’t put it down, put it away” to a funky tune and it really helps 😂 Also we have a lot of small systems in place being a ND household so everything has a place but it’s an easy place too (washing being a big one)
That really helped me realize how much things I do own 😱 I live (alone) in my place for 6 years now, so that is partly a reason, and before that I rented place and was living in a dorm so I do own random plates, cups or pots and travel gear (suitcases, backpacks and bags)🙃 I also love having hard copies of books, so probably half of my belongings are books (1/4 probably clothes and 1/4 other things). I definitely need to declutter, especially boxes with miscellaneous stuff. All you ideas seems quite nice (even though putting tea so out of reach is not for me as I drink some everyday). If you would ever need more space for cups/mugs it is good idea to have extra shelf insert (for example Variera from IKEA), it also works great to divide space for plates (I have flat ones under it and soup ones on it) - that way you can have all plates you needed at nice level shelf - really convenient. Maybe you can consider switching sides for clothes in wardrobe too? If you would hang your coat on the left side and then your "video" clothes and your everyday cloths on the right side you would have all your everyday clothes in one space - meaning you would need to mostly use one door to reach for almost all everyday items (less time watching that little mess made of video things) :D
Okay I love the idea of a costume box-although you mentioned it might seem like "hoarding", I do think it's clever to hold on to these pieces for a just-in-case and to also cut down on landfill waste!
Omg when all the cans kept falling 😂 lol he has impressive catching skills! Great video and I love that you went section by section, this would take me days in my house. 😅
Hi! This is the first video from you i'm seeing, and I really wanted to leave a comment (I rarely do) to say a big thank you to you both! I've felt so welcomed into your home as you were explaining things in a very simple way and talking straight to the camera, without cuts every 3 seconds, definitely appreciated it! I've moved in a new appartement this year but I've been sick all the time and too tired to tackle on the organising as I want it to be. I think when I'm ready to, I'll be coming back to your channel to give some motivation and strength! I also have a costume box and 3 memories shoe boxes ;)
This is such a lovely comment!! You’re always welcome in our home! Try tackle it one room at a time so you don’t feel too overwhelmed and give yourself lots of treats 😂😂 hopefully see you again in my comments once you’ve done your organising!!!
I got a costume box in elementary school because one of my moms best friends had older girls with random clothes and I got all of them 😊. This video was so satisfying. Living in an apartment definitely challenges a person to come up with different ideas.
I have a strong plan to declutter my whole apartment between christmas and new year. It's a perfect few days when I'm off work. Love this kind of content and I will rewatch your film in a month and 2 weekes :) Edit after watching for the 1 stime: I also have a shoe box for all things related with my fiance and our relationship since the beginning. We know each other nearly 20 years so its full of great memories. Ikea Malmback picture shelfs (or similar) are perfect for Vinyls!
So satisfying!! I feel so relieved for you! Having a clean and organised space translates into clear mind! Since you moved I have always wondered why didn't you get a small (maybe round) dining table and two chairs for the centre of that space, since it also seemed to me that all the furniture was piled against the walls. I guess you have to be in the space to know what feels right (and most importantly, what fits 😂)
Inspo for your seasoning grinder…. I know it’s summer time so might not be what your feeling but ginger is so good in soups like a carrot and pumpkin or roast veg soup! 😋
Love a good declutter. :) One thing I have learned is that it is not always 'just' how much stuff you have - sometimes, you don't utilise your rooms as effectively as you could. When I did a big declutter, I realised that I did have too much stuff, for sure. BUT - I was also using my space wrong. My bathroom have no storage (no cupboard or drawers, the room is tiny). The hallway closet held towels, sheets, seasonal wear, hygiene and beauty products, off season shoes, all my bags, and all my clothes, extra duvets and pillow cases, christmas decorations and my laundry. I still don't know how this closet can hold that much stuff. The small kitchen held all the kitchenware, as well as cleaning supplies, cords and manuals, papers and documents, my memory box, old books and games, and my plant pots. And my combined living room/bedroom? (the biggest room in my apartment) A ton of old clothes under the bed, that was impossible to get to (not that I wanted to wear it), a shelf of workout equipment, where I mostly use a select few items. And two bookshelves with more old books I would never read again, and a few boxes full of junk. I was basically using my most valuable space as a storage unit, instead of a functional home. And the smallest rooms held the most items. I think many people fall into that trap. In my living room, I emptied the space under the bed, and promised to never store things under the bed again - and I LOVE the feeling it gives! Most of it was donate, with a few memory items to keep somewhere else. I replaced one of the bookshelves with a dresser, where I now keep my creative stuff (I donated the old studbooks I kept on it before). The good thing about a dresser is that it looks neater, even if it is a bit messy inside at times. I kept the workout equipment I used, moved it to a different corner, and created a vanity table (a mirror and a shelf where I keep my everyday items - now I actually relax when I get ready in the morning). I got rid of half of the books on the other shelf, so it could also hold some decorative items. This room is now functional, instead of a storage area, and I love to hang out there. In the bathroom, I utilised some of the hooks to create a tiny extra shelf, so I can keep the essential bath products in there. In the hallway, I got two large, but decorative laundry baskets so I actually had the laundry space I needed, and it could free up space in the closet. Massive declutter of wardrobe and hygiene products, and I invested in some cheap baskets that utilised more space in the closet (kind of works as drawers, as well as dividing categories). And I can now actually access everything easier. Before, the back of the closet was 'dead space', because there was no easy way to get to things there. In the kitchen, a massive declutter of everything, especially books and paper. It is definetely shocking to see how much junk one can keep. But I think it makes it a lot worse, if one is not taking advantage of the space they have, or is using the best spaces as storage, rather than a functional space.
Hi!. about the furniture separating the couch from the desk, you can turn 90 degrees to each side and use it for decoration and/or storage. that way you sill get the separation but get rid of the ¨wallitis¨
I love a good re-org video! I haven’t done a re-organization in a while! I did a huge clear out about a year ago and have actually kept up with the maintenance of it all. Maybe I should make some clutter to declutter lol.
@@scrivspo lol, well my job doesn't entail making fashion content for TH-cam, so that helps to start. 😉😆 My main motivator is use what you have. That's really helped me keep things organized and in check (aside from my nail polish collection... 😬)

You probably have tried that already but if not maybe give it some brute force 👍

It's kinda weird to watch this video right after the declutter video filmed 7 months later. Several random questions I had about her home in the other video were answered in this one though.
Plates should go in the right side closest cabinet, glasses and cups on left lower cabinet. Pantry is where the food and larger appliances should go. Pots and pans should go in the lower cabinet where you put the tea towels. I watched where you placed everything and it made no practical sense to me.
Totally fine if it didn’t make sense to you! We had everything organised in the way you suggested and it didn’t work well for us, we might change things up again but this is working for now!
