    I start in the bigger pots too, because I always intend to get those seedlings potted up, but then I get distracted with the 1000 other things I'm trying to get done and then they end up sitting too long in the tiny pots lol

    I ❤️ your show, thank you so much for all the important information, I lived in SoCal my whole life, it is a difficult place to get seed started in spring cuz we go from cold to super hot 🥵 I also have bought seeds from your company, they work really well here I bought them from other companies and yours always germinate great, and give me the best plants that hold up to our heat ☀️💃🤗

    It sounds like maybe you've experienced firing your hose at your seeds and launching them into the air? I was laughing at the visual. Great video, lots of awesome tips, thanks a bunch!

    I seed them in coco than transplant them in pots with coco and my own compost and the third transplanting is in coco, compost and worm castings than into my garden area with egg shell dust in the hole and around the plant.. it works fine but the season is kind of short so i start my tomatoes in late February with hps lights added..
    High mountain method.. I still have snow and it’s pretty cold here till early April

      I feed my worms coir and then plant seeds in pure worm castings. Worms love egg shells powdered with a coffee grinder. The worm ranch sprouts with seedlings from any vegetable waste, even apples, because worms seem to care for seeds and seedlings and won't touch them. They do eat bacteria. The ranch smells like humus in a forest.

    You can buy two of almost any variety tomato starts for 1.50 at HEB groceries stores. They are way bigger than the expensive companies and better condition. For that price starting from seed is almost useless.

      Hey Duane. I don't currently sell pots or have an affiliate program for that. Any sturdy pot will do! We have used a lot from nurseries to keep the plastic out of the landfill.

    I'm late getting started on my tomatoes this year. Will be doing them later this evening with the kiddos. I am also going to be trying out of one the seeds that you sent in your monthly membership. I love having the monthly membership pop up in my mail every month and I can pick what I want to grow next! We're in similar climates. I think I'm a little hotter than you are. I'm in FL, zone 9b/10a. My entire backyard is going to be transformed this year and I can't wait to get going on it!!!! Thanks for this video, as always, love the input.

    Thid year im starting 150 tomato plants, growing 94 in my yard, as many as possible in friends yards, and selling the rest, plus I plan to clone my favorite plants to sell! I have 7 food trucks and 3 restaurants interested. Im very excited to get started urban farming! I wonder if she ever breeds her own tomatoes, I am definitely gonna try to cross a fee breads. I wonder what would happen if I crossed my two favorite hybrids...best of best of best of best?

    See, everyone is marveling at your amazing tomato plants, yet they will call you (and me) crazy for starting them at Christmas/New Years. Mine are the same size as yours, except that I have trimmed half the branches off and transplanted them to super-size drink cups, so half of that height is now roots. The cuttings I took at Halloween are now almost four feet tall and producing fruit. Those are really healthy looking plants, BTW.

    Fantastic! Can't wait for the other videos! 1 Question: Do you use your finely sifted seed starter on top of ALL of your seeds or just tomato seeds? Thank You for any info!!!

    • @SanDiegoSeedCompany
      @SanDiegoSeedCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like to use that method for all seeds because it gives you more room for error. However with large seeded crops like cucumbers you can be more “pushy” (pun intended) with the seeds! If your sift soil over them make sure you sift enough to cover them at the appropriate depth. If you cover them too much, they will still likely sprout just fine since the soil is so soft, light and fluffy. That’s the room for error that I am talking about. Does that make sense?

    • @pamelanewman9990
      @pamelanewman9990 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just found your channel and I'm loving it! I'm so happy to see you seed start in your greenhouse. Everyone else starts them inside their house. I just got a 6x8 greenhouse and I'm trying to see start in it. Do you have any videos on setting up your greenhouse? I need to add a shade curtain on top because it gets too hot midday.

    Isn't it a slight fallacy that peat is acidic? My research shows that sphagnum moss from a garden center is usually neutral.

    • @SanDiegoSeedCompany
      @SanDiegoSeedCompany  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question - naturally peat moss is acidic. It’s often adjusted to be more neutral.
