When I lived in LA county, I had a 3/4 acre place and I free ranged my chickens . I noticed the crows would NOT let any of the hawks near my property. I also noticed they would sneak into my coop a fly off with eggs.
So I started just leaving a couple eggs for them, they would stick around my place and where relentless towards the hawks. In the 10 years I lived and raised chickens on that property, I NEVER lost a chicken to hawks ❤️. I so miss my crows now that I have moved to SLO County.

Don't make them mad! Crows are actually really smart and are capable of recognizing human faces and holding grudges for years. A friend of mine has made friends with the ones in her area and they will come to her whistle.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Crows are amazing beings and once you're in, you're in with them and so are your pets! My daughter befriended a murder and one day her cat was in the porch and I seen a hawk. Before I could even stop what was clearly going to happen, the crows showed up and ran off the hawk mid air! They can stay here.

Re: labeling. I run a piece of masking tape along two sides (rows and columns). Using numbers on one side, letters on the other and now you just enter each cell into a spreadsheet. New tray, new sheet tab. This seemed easier for me since I can add a lot more information in the cell than my terrible handwriting would allow on a little stick. A bit nerdy but I always have my phone and google sheets a click away.

My not-original-probably poppy propagation method: put the entire moistened tray + seeds into a ziplock and stick it in the fridge overnight. The next morning put it on a sunny window sill or someplace warm and it’ll germinate that very evening. It’s amazingly effective and something I stumbled upon in my impatience this year. Previously I’d fridge them for a week and apparently was just wasting fridge space.

Now that you have an epic chicken coop and epic chickens....did you know large egg producers feed orange Calendula blossom pedals mixed into their feed to make the yolk color more vibrant, plus of course, it also increases all the other benefits Calendula provides. Once the blossom is spent, just toss it to the chickens, including the resinous green base of the flower head, for extra healthy eggs.

I appreciate when channels mention the seasons rather than the months as obviously it’s not the same for everyone so when you say early spring etc it’s much easier for someone from another country to watch your videos :)

First!!! You are AWESOME!!! Love your information!!!
    I am a TOTAL NEWBIE… but!!!
I stumbled on a really great garden bed label tool… super cheap..
We are remodeling and putting a new garden in at the same time, and when I was buying paint I found a bag of paint stirring sticks that are basically like giant popsicle sticks! They are fairly cheap and big enough for a good bit of information! Worked really well… unlike most the seeds I started 😂😂😂
Thank you for all you do!😊

You guys give the best advice! I love how you encourage learning through experience and embracing failure. I applied that philosophy in the classroom for many years as a preschool teacher. That’s pretty much how I approach gardening too. In my opinion, this approach makes gardening very enjoyable and effective. Thanks guys!

Experimenting is always so much fun and you will always gain some knowledge from it. I will also be doing that with different seeds I haven't tried before. Honestly My garden skills are not experienced but my mind keeps saying oh go on try it what do you have to lose lol.

Hey, about earwigs and corn worms...in Tennessee, I put a few drops of mineral oil down the top of the corn ear TWIST, when the ear is young and before the corn wrap twist is just newly loosening dure to ear growth.... it successfully kept out egg laying of worms, and other pests til full ear growth. Only had to do it once per ear.

The flowers are drying now, so shouldn't be too much longer. I'm @SowToGrowMore. Please be patient, I'm literally just starting out, no where near Epic Gardening status :)

I've maybe only seen 2 hornworms in my garden and everytime I've seen one it has a bazillion of the cotton swabs on it's back. I've always left them alone because I knew what that meant. Interesting that that works so well here in TN vs other parts of the country.
