09. Bolt Action notes and a couple of new books.

Played a 1500pt game versus Richard "Dinger" Bell in my first visit to Durham Raiders. Lost the game but learned a lot about the Germans and a little about my Russians.
Also got two new books, Lion Rampant and World Aflame, briefly talk about those and my plans for them.

Osprey rules are very variable but in my opinion "Lion Rampant" is their best so far and "A World Aflame" is their worst. As you are interested in VBCW it may suit you better but I am always on the lookout for a set of rules to use for the Russian Civil War and I was very disappointed. The rules all seem geared towards VBCW. You mentioned some of them but the author also seems fixated with capturing post offices as though all the fighting is going on across rural England, and as you say they are very fiddly and involve lots of record keeping for such things as ammunition expenditure. You are the first person I have known to acquire the rules other than myself and they have been out a couple of years now. They seem to have sunk without trace. On the subject of figures for c950 why don't you get Normans as these would be a close match?

Hi Ralph, thanks for viewing and commenting... you are indeed correct they have been out a little bit now and in truth I thought I was the only one to own a copy lol... As I say in the vid I won't be using the rules, even after looking into them more, much more interested in bastardising Bolt Action with a handful of special rules, Crowbars being one of them... As for Normans for my c950 era French I probably will go down that route, however not sure if the Kite Shield was in use then, its 100 years before Hastings so maybe not. Thanks again.

You might be right about the kite shield - I have just been looking at my Funcken and they don't seem to feature before c1000. So how about Gripping Beast's Carolingian figures?
