I've attended sakura-con 2016, 2023, and this year (2024) all cosplay meet-ups are scheduled on social media usually on facebook! I def learned the hard way last year lol I didn't know the app existed nor the gatherings facebook group so it was such a struggle. There is a discord but I'm not on there myself

That's good to know for future reference. I just wished everything was much more centralized so I don't have to dig around! lol

@scarletrhapsodyconventiontea I know! I so wish there was more signage indicating things. I also wish meet-ups were organized by the con or have a dedicated place for them. A few larger meet-ups took place in high traffic areas

    Hi Eri!
I'm the Anime in the Philippines (hereafter, "Philippines") girl. Thank you for covering my panel in both your report and podcast, let alone making the panel part of your con weekend.
To address some of your podcast's points about Philippines:
    • I never expected Philippines to get a huge turnout during its time slot, since I assumed that most people would either go to the closing ceremonies (as you mentioned) or scram. But y'all still showed up and nearly packed my room!
    • I've ran Philippines a couple times over the past 12 months, including the respective Sak, Anime North (with Mike Toole in the audience), and Otakon 2023 events. I'm cleared to re-run the panel at Anime North next month and plan to re-submit it to this year's Otakon panel intake.
    • I promise that if you sit in again (be it at Sak or another event), you will get some replay value out of Philippines. I want to make my panels the best they can be, so you'll often see me add, modify, and remove things based on audience reactions and feedback I receive.
    • If you'd like to see more panels on both how anime is dealt with in different countries and Candy Candy, check out Jesse Betteridge's Canadian Anime Heritage Minutes and Retro Shoujo Melodrama. He didn't submit those two panels to Sak this year, but they're solid panels on the history of anime in Canada and 70s to early 90s shoujo anime respectively. (Side note: Heritage Minutes was also my key inspiration for Philippines.)
I also saw the CWF performance with one of my presenter friends and you _slaughtered_ it as Nero. I also got a chuckle when you said that the room smelled like Visigoths and talked about emperor bath water.
Overall, I'm delighted that you enjoyed the panel and hope to see you again during a future con be it during any of your panels, any of my panels, or in the con halls. Thanks again for sharing!
