- Ironically, Mark Brazill and Bonnie and Terry Turner’s hit series, That 70s Show, took the late '90s by storm. Following a group of friends in 1970s Wisconsin, the show mostly takes place in the home of the Forman’s where the teens frequent the basement of Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debro Jo Rupp). Now, nearly two decades since the last episode aired, Netflix and the Turners are taking us back to the Wisconsin suburbs in That 90s Show.
Exchanging the polyester and feathered hair for grunge and overalls, That '90s Show will introduce fans to a new generation of friends. Taking over the infamous circle are Callie Haverda as Leia Forman, Ashley Aufderheide as Gwen, Mace Coronel as Jay, Reyn Doi as Ozzie, Sam Morelos as Nikki, and Maxwell Donovan as Nate. Much to Red’s chagrin and Kitty’s delight, this new posse finds Leia’s grandparents’ basement the perfect hangout. The series will also welcome back That '70s Show alums Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama, in addition to Smith and Jo Rupp.
Before That '90s Show hits Netflix on January 19, the cast sat down with Collider’s Steve Weintraub to discuss the series. During the interview they share their favorite episodes to film, who’s most dedicated to the group chat, and what it was like filming for a live audience. They also discuss what to expect from Season 2, binging That '70s Show, and more.

I don't know how many of them have acted before apart from the interviewer not asking great questions (don't be that guy who asks for the umpteenth time if they're fans of That 70's Show, be better) those junkets are soul destroying. I was watching the ones with Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith. Sometimes they'll try to dress up the rooms a little to differentiate each interview. Here it's blatantly obvious they're sitting in the same spot for hours on end probably answering the same stupid questions. It's why that dude from the BBC is so popular. He doesn't ask if they were fans of the original or what it's like to be in the basement. Yes, they're there to promote something but that doesn't mean every question needs to be about that. I guarantee the person they remember will be the one who doesn't ask about the show as much and goes off on odd tangents so they can actually use their brains a little. They're sitting under lights, having to speak for hours on end and try to remain happy at all times because they're promoting a show and part of their contract is to be happy and get people to watch the show.
I binged the whole season in 3 days, I was not convinced at the beginning but the last episodes are cool. I want it to continue because Kitty and Red look so happy!
5:37 Me personally, i feel like it would be cool to see them do a season for winter and spring break before jumping straight to summer. I think they could do more with it like them going to a ski lodge with no super vision and two of them hook up, or one of them works at the mall as a Christmas elf, and Leia and Nate maybe even share a kiss under the mistletoe who knows 🤷🏽♀️ just a thought
the christmas elf is such a parallel to when jackie worked at the cheese shop in the mall
I think it would be the coolest if in the show Leia decided she wanted to move to point place and go to school there from now on. I wish they would pump out as many episodes per season as they did in that 70s show
I loved it. I think they're all adorable and looking forward to them growing into the characters.

@@Mimi-hl3gu na your standards must be insanely low or you're 15. Either way its truly not good. Its literally supposed to be a 90s show but it has 2023 written all over it. They try to hard to make it for both the adults who loved that 70s show and kids. It just doesn't work at all.

In every interview I have seen him in he looks like all of this is beneath him and the way he looks at his cast mates when they talk gives me a vibe that he thinks they’re so annoying.

As soon as the kid who plays Jay Kelso starts talking, the girls on the bottom row (Leia and Gwen) gave side eye which seemed alittle odd….hope everything is okay with them but that was not a good look at all :(. Love the character Jay Kelso.

It seems like a That 70s show reboot that periodically switches over to a Disney sitcom. Such a stark difference in the humor/vibe between the old and new cast, sadly I don’t think this is going to last long.

Kinda disappointed most of the cast didn’t watch that 70s show before they got an audition i know some of them were born after it’s ending but still it’s such an iconic show it would’ve made more sense to cast someone who actually were fans of the original

Excited asf for a season 2 and I hope they can build off this with more episodes & give the new cast some time to really grow. sucked that they only gave the green light for 10 episodes which is already little and a portion of that had to be shared with already fleshed out characters
they are totally lying in the end when they say "they heard that maybe every season is gonna happen in the summer" it's so obvious. like yes maybe it's gonna happen this way but i have a theory that we will still get "holiday specials" like an hour episode for halloween and a 2 episode special for christmas etc. it is netflix after all we don't need to stick to seasons
i was thinking abt that too. i would be nice if like, they released new seasons every jan/feb/mar and then release holiday episodes in the holidays. kinda like sandman with those special episodes

I liked the show I watched That 70's Show when it was still coming out on TV when I was younger, but somebody being openly gay wasn't a thing in the 90's they weren't truly accepted til the mid 2010's in fact back in the 90's someone being gay would be bullied or made fun of.

Not them totally lying about the episodes will take place during the summer. Laia will move in with kitty and red, otherwise every year they would have to reintroduce the friends after a long break and that would get boring and doesn't help build relationships.

Kitty and Red were amazing, so good to see both of them doing their thing and looking great. I can’t lie I wasn’t very interested in the kids though, storylines felt forced and rushed, need more episodes in one season but with the way Netflix rolls that doesn’t look too promising
It was OK, I feel like it was meant for a younger generation. While that 70s show was meant for a slightly older audience. That 90s show felt like a mature Disney Channel show. Hopefully season 2 will be better.
it was like nick and disney made a weird spin off series . red never called anyone a dumbass . the props werent accurate to the 1990s . the kids couldn’t act at all . that 70s had led zeppelin concerts , that 90 s had a rave when it should have been a pearl jam or sound garden concert .

I thought it was average at best and the new characters pretty much sucked plus the story was all over the place and because it was only ten episodes and it felt forced. You’re right that blue + green eyes can’t result in brown, but brown + red hair can totally result in blonde hair. I think though that Callie’s natural hair colour is brown or at least dark blonde and we can assume that the character Leia dyes her hair. I mean, it’s very obviously dyed.
“Gwen” was supposed to have pink hair but they ultimately let the actress keep her natural colour. What would you have said about the chances of a black character having natural pink hair?
Conclusion: Leia is not a real blonde.

The scene in that 70s where we get to see kids play the original cast as kids in the basement. Those kids had more chemistry and were more likable. And yes there is a bit of wokeness here.

I'm sorry this show was to forced! It felt like they were trying way to hard to try and make these new characters try and mimic the old characters! From that 70s show! I'm not getting a 9os vibe for me either... I feel like they're trying way too hard to perceive these characters to be from the 90s! When even tho they're acting! You could still tell they're from today's generation! I compared this pilot to the first pilot of that 70s show and the first pilot was just so much chemistry!!! With the original cast! I truly believe the original cast was from the 70s watching the first pilot! But... this cast... I don't feel like they're really from the 90s even though they're acting they're acting is not good! I could still get the whole vibe that they're kids of today's generation! I will not be watching the rest of the show because I couldn't even get past the pilot! Don't want to ruin That 70s show for me anymore than I did! I always wanted them to bring back the original cast way before they even announced they would be making a 90s show. I thought this way back in like 2006 when the original show ended. But I don't like what they did. Let's be real in the 90s gay people were still in the closet! They weren't like today where they have the freedom to speak freely about being gay walk around get married! That didn't exist in the 90s. I think they should have not put a gay person in the cast" because I feel like that's more of today's generation! If they wanted to be more realistic about the 90s they should have had a grunge kid a cholo or maybe a skater & preppy girl! And possibly even a dumb bimbo Valley Girl!
I have second hand embarrassment watching this cast. Such a poor choice in casting in my opinion. Should have never been created this spin off. Definitely not going to be a 2nd season

I don't really see how this show could be considered "woke" at all. There's no particular political message in the show outside of vague references to 90s era feminism, and there being a gay character. But the original had references to '70s era feminism and also featured an episode about a gay character (who they actually wanted to be a recurring character). To me i don't really think this show has any particular "agenda" or whatever, other than to be a sequel to the first show but with a new cast, and if it did have a political agenda it seems like the original show must have had the same agenda too. The cast is more diverse, so maybe that's what you mean, but as a show that's meant to represent 90s pop culture which is when a lot of media started becoming more diverse this also just feels "on theme" to me, and is also just a non-issue all around
It's also like a show where teenagers break a bunch of laws, so it's not like it's trying to be sterile or cleaned up either.
