Thank you Ken. Very enjoyable whittle, great teaching job. My last beginner carve from another blog went in the trash (first one ever), so I needed a Win!!
Ken. I'm so glad to have found your channel. Your pace and your explanations as you carve is spot on and the video angles are perfect. Keep doing what you're doing.
@WhittlingWoods I wanted to ask if you happen to do anything slightly larger like 2x2x6 or 3x3, etc. Nothing specific but my question is really about figuring out proportions for a face/head when they're larger. ?
@@celticcraps In the past I did larger work, up to about 3-4" square, not so much anymore. For the typical face/head I tend to work with 1/3 rules - 1/3 down from the top of the head for brow line, 2/3 down for the bottom of the nose, and the chin bottom at the last third. For the eyes I use the middle third measured from face center to ears. For the lip separation - 1/3 down from nose to chin bottom with the mouth width from eye center to eye center. I hope that helps - obviously many whittle are a bit on the cartoon side so some "artistic" license is a good thing 😉
@WhittlingWoods thanks my friend. Appreciate it. Been about 8 years since I picked up a knife. Carved my first one last night!.. thanks for the help and your replied. Jim
Thanks for the detailed tutorial! I completely agree when you said 'Take your time and enjoy the whittle. ' I try to, unless I'm late picking up my daughter from school!!
I have owned the knife for about 15 years. Unfortunately, I do not recall the model. I believe it was Stockman Yellow, but I am pretty sure they no longer make this model. Thank you! 👍✌
Great lesson! I enjoyed the entire process. Keep 'em' coming my friend!
I am glad you enjoyed it! Thank you. 👍✌

Ahh . . . I remember the school pick up days.😊
Very nice Santa whittle! I'm going to have to try that Stanley knife. Do you reshape that blade any or do you use it with the original bevel?
Thank you Stephen! Yes, I take down the bevel a bit to make it more shallow. 👍✌
I had a question about the pocket knife in the video? What kind of rough rider is it? I have one but it doesn't look like that one you have.
I have owned the knife for about 15 years. Unfortunately, I do not recall the model. I believe it was Stockman Yellow, but I am pretty sure they no longer make this model.
