Nostalgia almost feels weaponized nowadays, not just monetized. I thought I was the only one who felt that nostalgia feels painful, not warm and fuzzy.

I certainly agree that nostalgia can be a negative thing. I often feel a sense of sorrow that time is over and isnt coming back.
An example is playing Fallout New Vegas for about a year while I recovered from a spinal reconstruction and couldn't walk. I loved the game, maybe my favourites. However, when I reflect on my time playing it I'm reminded of the good times, but also the low point of my life at the time.
I would like to start focusing on the future, instead of everything looking back to the past.

This really resonates with me. I realized in trying to recapture the past, which wasn't great, it almost felt like I was in a car turned backwards on the highway. Facing backwards while trying to move forward, if that makes any sense.
I moved to looking at new releases of things I enjoy (like hot wheels) and only collect those. Now the future feels like it's centered properly.

The 1989 Lego pirate ship was my dream come true!

      After Lego was...
Monster in my Pocket, Mighty Max, Mega Force and Zero Hour. I just HAD to get all the playsets!
For comics the was Spawn. Every issue, every spin-off, every collaboration.
Obtaining Spawn Vs. Batman by Image Comics and Batman Vs. Spawn by DC comics was very satisfying.
Unfortunately, thanks to our digital age, the physical collection may become obsolete.
      New topic: Collections in Metaspace?

Mighty Max was great. A ton of creativity clearly went into designing the play sets.
Some companies are trying to make digital collectibles a thing but I feel like they may go the way of the NFT.

@@PNPVideocast personally, I try to remain in 1995 as much as possible. When did virtual pets occur? I heard some folks needed therapy after their Tamagotchi died.
So having a deep connection to a simulated form is quite possible. We're only machines after all.
Thanks for all the great content, by the way.

Metal Warriors on SNES... between 700 to 1000$ cad on ebay...
Yea, I love nostalgia and still have my SNES from 1991... And I got myself Metal Warriors as a repro cartridge for 20$
And I enjoy playing it from time to time on my good old SNES. That's my way of enjoying my personal nostalgia.

Great taste! I’d love to see game companies embrace reissues like record labels have with vinyl. Officially rereleasing games on the original format would be amazing. I know LRG does something similar but some of their business practices are hard to get behind.

Have you studied people who abandon collecting? I’ve known people who suddenly got overwhelmed and sold almost everything to a vintage store. They didn’t even try to make a profit on ebay; they just wanted it all gone quick. What do you make of that?
