    "A patient's diet, a good movie."
    NO CELEBRITY playing the modern versions of this game would come up with clues this good.

      Yeah those were genius to think of on the fly! I'm not even sure what I would say, maybe: a good book, a good restaurant, a good doctor, etc

    One thing that has always driven me nuts about this show is that the audience wastes like 2 seconds clapping after every right answer. Wastes at least 15 seconds every round. Am I the only one that noticed this?

      @bobdonda 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      it might not be that bad, it gives her a bit of time to think of a decent clue instead of rushing and panicking

      Also, there's a lot to be said for the encouragement factor. If the contestant and the "giver" can attain a certain synergy, it's almost a foregone conclusion by the $250 square that they're gonna hit the money, and the level of audience encouragement (i.e., applause) will oftentimes mirror the extent to which the players have achieved that synergy. That is, the audience can just smell it: they KNOW when the contestant and the celebrity are clicking--when they're communicating with their eyes and facial muscles as much as through the actual words spoken--and the applause can work to boost the players' mutual confidence that they're "firing on all cylinders" (how's that for a sentence with a multiple of metaphors?!, omg--urg--but you know what I mean baby...). The episodes in which the audience heaves that collective sigh ("awwwwww") when the players have come SOOOOO close are typically those in which the contestant and celebrity have achieved that meta-communication but--for whatever reason(s)--just can't get that last square to turn. Those are the WORST because you just KNOW they should've hit it.

    • @WarEagleTimeMachine

      Personally, I like the applause. I think it is encouragement.

    • @diamonddog13
      @diamonddog13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WarEagleTimeMachine If you see the early $10,000 Pyramid episodes there was no applause for the first few squares. Over the years the applause increased. Yes it's encouragement, but a couple of times the applause helped to keep Billy Crystal's record intact because others would have finished faster .

    It's always amazing how night time syndicated game shows are 98% similar to their daytime counterparts.

    • @fortynights1513
      @fortynights1513 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The most common difference is prize money that could be won in the nighttime was higher.
      Also in the 70’s, the weekly syndicated game shows were typically self contained with no returning champions or games that straddled between episodes.

    Did I remember Dick Clark saying on a show once you don't win 35,000 total...you first win 10,000 then you are upgraded to 25,000 if you win?

    • @diamonddog13
      @diamonddog13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that was a holdover from the CBS $25,000 winnings limit. But it should not have applied to the syndicated version. It kind of sucks that winning twice gives you the same money as only winning the second time.

    @danbarker39 I remember Dick saying, "When it says, "Something a _______ says," then you are allowed to say ANNNNYYYTHING!!!" Thus, the synonym/preposition/too descriptive/etc. rules don't apply. (e.g. "I'm also called a whirlybird." seems just fine)

    • @HunterDillon95
      @HunterDillon95 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1
