If anyone else has this problem, and this doesn’t help (me included) it’s probably a trace going to the Clock to one of the IC chips that has corroded away due to acid from leaking capacitors on the display unit.
Now that I have seen this video, I am contemplating on buying an 850s from someone who selling his with the same display issue. I've seen the carrier board and its got the good chips ending in 2. If only I can get it at half the price he is selling it maybe, just maybe, I'ld take it.
If you feel comfortable doing the capacitor replacement and you can get a fair price then IMHO get the 850.. The are a good rig and the receiver is better sounding than most modern DSP based rigs, a kin to a old Marantz/Pioneer Stereo receiver of the 70s VS a modern AV receiver, the older receiver sounds more dynamic. Again IMO. Cheers
I have not seen that particular issue however I would start checking the front board for leaking caps and the traces under the caps. Almost all issues are caps that leak and ruin the traces. IMO... while your inside look at the other boards as well.
It’s a Disgrace that a very nice AMATEUR RADIO appears to be used on the Children’s Band? Of all of the frequencies where it may be used Legally it had to be tuned to the 11 meter TOILET? 🚽👎🏻💩

Do you know why the mode buttons are not working on a 850. It won't come off of USB

The wide ribbon in there appears to be plugged in really crooked. Possibly not making contact on part of it. Could that possibly be the problem?
Yes could be..... Take the ribbon out of the socket and plug it back in. Be careful when pushing the ribbon in the socket.
