- Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Today I'm showing you another sketchbook that I filled on vacation in December.
It's an Etchr Sketchbook, Size B5. After finishing the smaller size sketchbook that I showed you in last week's sketchbook tour, I was happy to fill larger pages, and kept enjoying experimenting with materials.
I made some wonderful connections with strangers through my art - even though we didn't speak each other's languages. You'll see that I have been playing a lot with limited palettes. Sometimes just two colors is more than enough to capture the essence of a moment or a place. You don't need to be that literal.
I also noticed that when I use collage, with the paper pieces, I am already deciding on the palette for the rest of the process.
Hopefully by watching this tour, you'll get some ideas about how to fill your travel sketchbook pages when you're on a trip.
Would you like to take trip and capture the memories and liveliness of the place?
I'll be teaching in the US in May: The Lively Sketchbook, in Santa Fe.
I won't be teaching in the US after this workshop any time soon, and there are just a few tickets left, so grab your chance: www.madelinear...

What a beautiful sketchbook....your sketches are so lively and dynamic ❤
Thank you so much 😀
What a treat I felt as if I was on holiday from grey Scotland ! Loved the added photo of you and the wee girls watching you draw. I have been to Santa Fe twice , totally love New Mexico ... if I could choose I would live there. You will love it.
Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks!
I’m simply amazed by your beautiful work! You really encourage me to be more brave about bringing my sketchbook in different public settings. Thank you so much for your constant inspiration!
I’m so glad that I can give you a little nudge every now and then
Beautiful sketchbook Koosje - I felt like I went on the trip with you! I'm very familiar with Thailand and you make sketching those scenes so easy!!
Oh thank you!
Thank you for sharing!
I'm very intrigued by travel sketching.
I just picked up a tiny 4in by 4in pad to take with me everywhere.
I just came back from Cuba and it worked great. I managed to get some fun sketches!
Wonderful! I’m so glad it works for you. And Cuba! That must have been an adventure, travel-wise and sketch-wise!
It's snowing here and going to get blustery, it was very nice seeing your sketchbook and the beach.
A bit of warm sunshine! I’m glad you appreciated that.

Wow and yay!1👏👏👏
I enjoyed your sketchbook flip through. I like your style.
Thanks for watching!
Loving this sketchbook review; my husband and I have been in Thailand for close to 3 weeks and we have 20 days in Bangkok. Sketching here is wonderful, never a lack of inspiration. Your sketches are beautiful, including people makes such a difference so I will work on that. Thank you for sharing your work.
Have fun! Including people when drawing in Bangkok is almost mandatory… such a busy city, right?
Wonderful! Thank you.
Thank you too!
Interesting trip and drawings. I enjoy sketching as well when I travel. You have a nice voice!
I love the insights to your choices-thank you for the tips!
Glad it was helpful!
Kooje, ein wunderschönes Sketchbook, was für tolle Erinnerungen.
Danke!
Thank you so much for the “tour” of Thailand and your wonderful sketchbook of memories! I am hoping to learn techniques in order to do this on my own in my upcoming trip to UK in the Fall.
On a side note….i’m much older than you and have no surviving family, I’m curious as to what artists in my position could do with their sketchbooks upon their passing?
That's an interesting question. I don't have kids and so sometimes I wonder the same thing. I have no answer for you, it's very personal just like any other things that could be inheritance.
I was so sad when I watched this video tonight! I didn't realize it was almost a year ago and you had already been in santa fe!!! Will you be doing anymore workshops in the united states in 2025???🎉 As usual, I just love your work!!! 🎉 It's so fun and free and interesting!!!
I don't have anything planned for the US this year. Maybe you can sign up for my email newsletter to stay informed about my workshops. www.koosjekoene.com/subscribe
@KoosjeKoene I will right now, thank you!!! 😊
Please show your travelling art gear that you take with you. And, about how long do most of these sketches take? I'm SO slow. LOL Dank je vel, Koosje.
It’s on my list to create a video about travel sketch gear. Thanks!
hello Koosje, thanks for another lovely video. I hope its okay to ask, because i am interested to know, what you used to color your beautiful gray page with. its the one where you tell us that you drew the lines at the restaurant and colored it in at the hotel. Thanks again for your lovely videos, they are very inspiring
I used watercolors, I mixed Daniel smith indigo and Daniel smith van dyck brown. I hope this is useful.
Love your travel sketchbooks ❤❤❤
And joined you on instagram! 🙌
Thanks so much 😊
Koosje-Trying to contact you about live event tomorrow morning at 8am for me. Feb 15th. I signed up with Eventbrite for the event. I have not received a zoom link for the event. I haven't done this before, don't know how it works. Thank you
I’m glad you found me via email with your question so we could sort it out in time!
