I have replaced just the handle bar grips in between, cutting one grip shorter using a hose clamp as a guide. Then I use rubbing alcohol to slide them on.
So I am in this exact predicament with a new Walmart rock creek mountain bike. I’m 67 y.o. and I ride on greenways and around campgrounds with my wife so I don’t need an expensive bike, and I like this one. Long story short, Huffy replaced my nonfictional shifters with the same new nonfunctional shifters. I’ve paid $30 to have the new shifters installed by a professional technician. If these fail like I imagine they will, are the shifters mentioned in this video the ones that you recommend that I go to for my $130 bike, or is there a better option in a reasonable price range for me to consider?
I've ridden a lot of different grip shifters and I feel like the microshifts I installed in the video have the most solid feel to them. If you were going to swap to a different grip shifter I would go with these for sure.
Buy cheap - get cheap components, and aggravation. Invest more cash for a better riding experience. NEVER buy a bike from a department store (such as WalMart). They don't have professional bike mechanics to put a bike together properly/safely. Neither do they sell bikes of good quality. Get the real deal at a real bike store - you won't regret it.
I installed new shifters in my bike and followed everything through but my bike wasn’t shifting so now I’m risking it all by taking off the shifter cable for the left side and changing it on my right is there any way u can help me ?

Helpful video to an extent maybe try moving the camera so we can actually see what you are doing messing about at the rear of the bike.

Kind of hard to diagnose that over the internet, might want to head down to your local bike shop for some advice.

On the mongoose I believe it was around a 670mm width on the bars
