Besides the fact that it's super cool AND kind of looks like a butt? 1) Unlike traditional blimps, this aircraft is set to be able to carry a 500 ton payload. 2) It can take off and land without a mooring crew (guys with ropes on the ground). 3) "Roadless Trucking" - the ability to drop ship tons of cargo without the need for much infrastructure. 4) Faster than a container ship, more fuel efficient and more payload than a helicopter. 5) Humanitarian missions 6) Firefighting (100,000 gallons of water per airship vs. 24,000 for a Boeing 747) 7) Luxury - Aerial cruise ships, anyone?
Considering everyone one of these facts is false as hell. It does have the CAPABILITY of doing things a helicopter or plane can not. One being fuel efficiency (relative considering helium still cost a lot of money) and VTOL and payload relative to some small container ships or planes. As of now, this prototype has a stupendously small payload capability in its current configuration in both space and weight. The occupant space is small and there is no payload bay for storage. Also the propulsion systems for this prototype will never be good enough for larger payload systems. or stable highspeed flight, or low speed maneuverability.
what an unpleasent noise. I think Dean Media should have invested in a better following craft, what did they use?! It seems the noise doesn't come from the Airlander ship herself but that Dean Media had a bad rig setup for audio for the following craft.
The noise is not the Airlander ship, but the camera carrying craft (Helicopter or cheap drone maybe) see at @00:30 the camera is on the ground and while there is some propeller noise from the Airlander it's not tooo noisey and not at all as grating.
