She didn't intend to become a singer...

Großartige Sängerin! Für ihre Glanzjahre war ich zu jung! Ich habe erst Ende der 80er durch einen italienischen Freund von ihr Kenntnis erlangt! Welch eine Sängerin, heute würde sie unangefochten ganz vorne stehen!

Precisamente hoy estaba escuchando en una radio italiana, el cuarteto del acto III de Don Carlo , con Siepi, Bastianini, Barbieri y la Cerquetti en el papel de la Reina Isabel de Valois, un 16 de junio de 1956 en Firenze. Gran cantante verdiana la Cerquetti…una de las grandes voces para esas óperas densas, oscuras con personajes altamente complejos del gran Verdi. Gracias por tu vídeo ❤❤❤❤

I guess we all here know the channel This is opera. I wonder why they never mentioned Cerquetti. She's one of my favourite.
Unfortunately, there are many great sopranos left behind. Cerquetti is one of them. She certainly deserves more recognition.
@@opera_lovers_paradise9755 I totally agree. But I don't think they could have forgotten about her. I guess they didn't consider her a great example like Callas or Tebaldi, perhaps because she doesn't make the same shameless use of chest voice?
@@opera_lovers_paradise9755 I think the reason why they are not very well known is their scarce presence (or even total absence) in mainstream discography.
She had a very short career, and as great as she was, her historical impact was very little. She was not an innovator alla Callas, or a fan favorite alla Tebaldi... but she had one of the most beautiful voices ever to sing the Italian repertoire.
Anita Cerquetti una voce e artista eccezionale e meravigliosa.
Elle contrôle à la perfection le volume de sa voix. Être dépassée par un excès de volubilite ne constitue pas pour elle un gage d'excellence. Elle est dans la nuance, pas dans la voix qui se force.
